Server was friendly and checked on us often. Food was good and service was fast. Would definitely recommend trying especially if you like Italian. Would definitely go back.
Great food, reasonable $, friendly staff, great ambiance
Overall Good value
The best grilled halibut I have ever tasted. Also great happy hour prices on drinks. Service was excellent. Will go back for sure.
This was a good restaurant! The early bird specials are particularly good value. My steak was nicely prepared, tender and quite good.
Everything was very good except that they missed checking what the client has requested i.e. complimentary dessert for birthday until we asked. We still got it anyway and a piece of the Tiramisu was excellent which my friend and I shared.
Love this place and try to make it for dinner, every time I visit Vancouver
Fine experience overall. The venue is nice but the food was hit or miss. Fettuccine was superb but the gnocchi was relatively bland and the pizza bread was just cheese bread, nothing special.
Authentic Italian food. Service was top notch for our large group.
Food is decent but not much surprise and their pizza is pretty authentic in Italian Style.
As for price, it is not cheap compared with other Italian food restaurants. Overall it is a good Italian food restaurant.
Reminded us of a wonderful restaurant in Florence, Italy. Fond memories renewed!
Love the decor. Food tasted great. Perfect setting for a great night with friends.
Great friendly staff
Given immediate attention but not in a Rushed Manner
My date ordered for her main course -the Mussels. What a winderful surprise as the appetizer portion was a full plate of huge mussels in a beautiful broth. She wiped the soup up with our bread
I in turn had the Rack of Lamb. Perfectly cooked and the
Chops were not only very meaty but the heart of the rack also contains a small ‘filet’.
We were two very satisfied after having a perfectly pleasant service but having been treated like royalty
Went here to celebrate a birthday and it was a really good choice to pick! If you love Italian food, you’re going to love this place. Also, it’s super close to the station if you’re getting here by skytrain and if you happen to walk along GASTOWN as well. Overall, would definitely recommend checking it out!
Food was good. Meat and cheese appy was very small for $21.
Server was not friendly.
Nice meal with family. We were seated on second floor and it was very quiet. Meal was quite good but service was better!
Mistake was made on my sister-in-law’s order which resulted in it needing to be re-made. This took 20+ minutes and resulted in her receiving her food after everyone else had finished eating. The waiter blamed it on the dish she ordered and was unapologetic.
We stacked plates for the waiter (I’ve worked the service industry for over 10 years and this is often appreciated) and he said ‘don’t do that’ and then walked away w any further explanation.
Food was good and ambience was good. Would only recommend to ownership that this gentleman, who served us, receive training on service.
Just a really amazing little gem of a place if you want some very fine Italian food. You won't find better food or service anywhere in Vancouver. Not a lot of space so best to reserve.
Had to wait far to long for main course due to the need to service a wedding party.
Obviously understaffed in the kitchen.
A really great dining experience for a special occasion, but we nevertheless felt we had value for money.
I had my birthday lunch here with my family and we were all wowed by the wonderfully prepared food, and the exceptional service. I would recommend Al Porto’s to everyone and there’s no doubt that I’ll be coming back
This was a get together of old friends, a party of eight. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was great. The ambient noise was at a very reasonable level and all in all it was excellent and I'll return next time I am in Vancouver.
I have been going to Al Porto for 30 years and never disappointing. Waiters / support staff are on point in all facets. Whether business or pleasure a good experience will be had.
Al Porto is an oasis in a desert of same old restaurants. The menu is fresh and tasty, the wine list is varied and the service is excellent.
It was my first visit here, after all this time. I'm so glad we did this. I had a craving for Linguine Vongole (Clams Linguine) and found myself here. The brick interior of the restaurant is charming and cozy. We even made it for the early bird special - $30 for salad/soup and main. The service was amazing! Our server was witty and attentive the entire meal. The food was delicious! I had such a good time. I will be back!
The food (lasagna and Caesar salad) was pretty good and relatively quickly presented. The wine selected from the somewhat limited wine list was not available. The view of the waterfront was blocked by a parked train and the upper level (apparently) with a better view is closed.
The food was fantastic and overall we had a great time. I did find the service to be good for some of our group, and a bit condescending to others.
The service was terrible. Very, very long time for the orders to be taken; Even longer than that for the food to eventually arrive and even then some orders were mixed up or just wrong. One pizza had to be re-done (we we're never told about it or would have just cancelled it) and it was served when everyone else at the table was done. Minimal communication by the server on what's going on and it appeared as if they didn't really care. On a positive note - we had an occasion and desert and a bottle of bubbly were brought to our table on the house. Even that couldn't make up for the very poor service we received. Never going back or recommending to anyone.
Great food great atmosphere.
As always we were not disappointed. I had the chicken parmesan with gluten free pasta. Very nice and the roast vegetables still had a small crunch to them. My husband had the veal T-bone steak which he told me was outstanding. The food here never fails us.
Fantastic find, delicious food, excellent service, really nice vibe and authentic. Highly recommend, would return in a heartbeat.
Great menu selections and wine list! Our meals were delicious! The surroundings are very Mediterranean and set the mood! The bread could have been fresher, but was fine. I recommend this lovely restaurant!
Food quality and flavor were average for Italian. Service was average to below average given the price and expectation as a white table cloth restaurant. My wife ordered a second glass of wine which came way too late. The waiter did not charge us for the 2nd glass. First time to Vancouver and Al Porto. I can not recommend this restaurant.
Loved the quiet atmosphere. Service and food outstanding .
A true Italian restaurant. Fine wine list, great food and good service. If this was at home we would be a regular customer. Even the general manager has an on hand approach to keep standards high.
Al Porto is a little hidden gem. Good Italian food and great service in the heart of gas town.
We had an excellent meal while vacationing in Vancouver. Servings were plentiful and delicious!
We discovered this restaurant in gastown while shopping. It's downstairs in a quaint basement area. Our waiter Fabio was wonderful- Italian from Milano. We started our meal with an appetizer of calamari-tender, nicely breaded and flavored with scallions and freshly diced tomatoes. The homemade bread and olive oil with balsamic vinegar was great. My daughter had the Cannelloni di Verdura and I had the Veal Lasagna. Both dishes were delicious. We finished our meal and shared a Tiramisu. Moist, perfect amount of espresso and covered in just the right amount of cocoa powder. A delightful meal. We ate there twice during our stay.
Very authentic, server did a great job, recommended some nice wines
