Relaxed & comfortable experience
Food was very good. Would have given the experience full stars except for the fact that even though both my daughter and I emailed about her being vegan the only vegan option offered was not available. I would have thought that having given the chef a heads up the ratatouille would have been a choice. Appreciate the fact that they did put something together for her. If more options were offered we would give it another shot.
Went for dinner with family and we loved sitting at the booth with the retractable window so we felt like we were sitting outside, which is awesome on Whyte Avenue. The food was high quality and perfect portions. The Duck Poutine and Baked Brie were exceptional started. Definitely going back.
The staff at the almanac are so friendly and kind! Amazing food, drinks, and atmosphere!
Everything was fantastic, the drinks, the food, and the service. The only downside is how loud Whyte ave is, so I expect this to be a much quieter place once the temperatures drop back down and they close the patio windows.
Girlfriend loved it…. But I came here with my business partners before. It’s a good place to get away from the young kids
Had a very pleasant meal and enjoyed the booth seating with the open doors. We enjoyed a couple dealer choice cocktails which capped the evening off nicely. Will definitely be returning and recommending to others. Thanks again!
Great cocktails... and location is very close to all u need on Whyte ave., will be back AGAIN...!!
The lettuce in the garden salad was mushy. The gnocchi was tasty but not a typical gnocchi dish.
My friends and I enjoyed the great food and ambience at this restaurant. The menu was varied, and each dish we ordered was esthetically pleasing and delicious. It was a pleasant change to not have the music or background noise competing with conversation, so that after we left we had felt we had just enough to eat, and a wonderful visit. I plan to go back!
We have been before and always very impressed. Sadly, brunch was not up to what we have experienced during prior visits.
I had read great reviews over the past couple of years & kept meaning to try Almanac. Maybe my expectations were too high - I pictured more farm to table, interesting flavors. I found the Brussels sprouts heavy (they were apparently deep fried, and tossed in Hollandaise ). My steak tartare was really lacking in flavor & accompaniments. For my veggie fish-eating friend, pickings we’re slim. She went for the ubiquitous salmon, which also had hollandaise on it, so okay if that’s what your after. My husbands lamb shank was nothing special. Overall, okay but underwhelming food-wise. The service, while a little inexperienced, was friendly and attentive.
The tasting menu was amazing!!! Wonderful service, incredible food, great wine pairings. Highly recommended.
I can't say much about the food because we only ordered an appetizer to share, and each had one cocktail. The reason for this...it was so incredibly noisy and uncomfortable, that I couldn't stand to be there any longer than we were. It's a cramped little restaurant. The tables are squished together. You come through the door and you are literally standing right at someone's table. It was very awkward. We made a reservation, and nobody was there to greet us. The bartender did some hand signals in the air to us and basically pointed to a table, meaning SIT there. Ok.
The noise level was unbearable You really need to scream at the person next to you to have a conversation. It was difficult to relax, have a drink and eat a meal due to sensory overload.
I'm sure the menu is probably good, but sadly we won't be back to enjoy it.
We had been there once before and enjoyed it.
This time the food was off and served cold.
Asked for no onions and the meal was loaded with them. The server did not know what the vegetalbles were and didn’t find out.
The lamb tasted off.
Beautiful... Unbelievable cocktails
I've heard that this restaurant was good, but I had no idea it was THIS good! Not only were the prices amazing, but the food was outstanding in taste and quality . The design of the restaurant is very appealing as well, making you feel welcome and comfortable. I've been to a lot of great restaurants in Edmonton and near/on Whyte ave, and consider myself a little bit of a foodie, but the Almanac honestly blew me away. 10/10 would recommend, I'll be coming back here for sure!
I had beef Bourgogne it was good but was a bit fatty. Tasty though. Very accommodating staff and our server was great . We will be back.
For a first time visit with friends, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Though I wished the charcuterie was a bit bigger, it was definitely a nice intro into the evening. Will definitely be back!
Great atmosphere, great service, and delicious food!
Unfortunately 3 of the main courses were unavaible. This really limited our options. The food was good but came to us a little cold. Our server was attentive and always there when we needed her. The restroom sewer gas was overwhelming.
Superb as always! The menu at dinner is a little rustic but well presented and good.
I loved my night here. It reminded me of Europe. I can’t wait to come back.
Great service, fantastic drinks and delicious food. Will definitely be going back! Would highly recommend for a great meal, or just for amazing drinks.
Fabulous food and atmosphere. Noise level was quite high but still enjoyable!
The food and cocktails are great. One of my favourite places.
The polenta was laced with too much chili powder and we were not advised of this by the server.
After reading several reviews I was excited to try Almanac. I ordered the gnocchi which arrived hot but was more of a pile of dough instead of that pillowy goodness one would expect. I also ordered it with the duck, the extra charge to amount actually served was disappointing. Service was great and the ambience for a Thursday night was ok. I’ll give it another chance as I didn’t get to try one of the cocktails.
Our server was lovely. Great atmosphere. Cozy. Great food! Thank you!
Went in relatively excited for the meal; had read and heard good thing about Almanac. By no means was the experience poor, perhaps just a tad underwhelming? I ordered the duck sandwich which was dry and flavorless, making me long for a turkey dinner prepared by my father. I was happier with the few bites of porkchop and steak that I tried from others seated at my table. Service was good and consistent, no complaints whatsoever.
Loved almost everything about Almanac. The exception was the salmon which was smallish and bland for the price. On the other hand the coq au vin was wonderful comfort food. Wines are well chosen but slightly pricey.
Good place to have a conversation since it isn't too loud like some places. The food was decent.
no band, so the noise level was reasonable. Service was great, food was good. Will return.
When we first arrived, I thought how cute and cozy. The front room is so fun. We unfortunately were sat in the back of the restaurant, in a room you don’t even realize is there. It’s obviously where music is held and I’m sure it’s fine when there is music but there wasn’t that night, the ambience was not good. We had a server who had only been there for a few days and although his knowledge of the food wasn’t there, he was extremely attentive, polite and he did know his drinks. I loved the smoked olives and the beef tartare but the coq au vin was pretty salty, otherwise it was good. Chicken was very tender. Cocktails were unbalanced and heavy handed. All in all, ok restaurant.
For casual dining with good food and an excellent drinks menu I recommend this eatery to the pre and post theatre patrons. There were 4 in our group heading to the Varscona theatre. We all found the ambience at the Almanac lively and the service very good. This was a 5.30pm sitting. We would all go there again.
Just delicious and a calm and comfortable atmosphere
Service and atmosphere were excellent. As were the cocktails. We were a party of 8 and only 2 people enjoyed the good. Duck sandwich was good. Pork chops were very dry and pasta was awful.
Great spot for dinner before movie at the p
Princess. Very accommodating to allergies. Very good service.
Almanac is a nice little spot, they were very accommodating to our 10 person group. It was a night were they had a concert in the back, so getting drinks was a little slow, and it was a little louder than anticipated. Food was great and the staff was very friendly!
Our service was well trying to find a word but bad. Our meal was late and cold and then our server did everything she could to make us leave as soon as possible because someone else booked the table.
