Situated beside a creek, with a large dining room built out overlooking the falls, Ancaster Mill is in demand year-round for weddings, family or corporate events and celebrations. Restored to keep its authentic character intact, this is a place where ambience fuses with fine food and great service.
I like this restaurant specifically for the ambiance next to the waterfall which is why I booked a table a week in advance for that spot. Unfortunately i did not get it, I did get one near a window but for my money it’s that specific view that makes it for me.
When requesting a time for the evening online was asked if there was any request I requested a spot by the waterfall that we got !We were jammed up against the wall could not see really anything. There was a large loud party beside us, bathroom door hitting my husband's chair ,outside door open and held open for several moments while smokers went out and smoked .
I had requested a nice table in a room with a lovely view as it was our 30th wedding anniversary. Very disappointed one waiter for that whole room is unacceptable at this time of year. He was nice enough but service was slow and not attentive whatsoever. Would I recommend it No... food was delicious the rest very disappointed.
We celebrated my mom's 70th birthday and was thoroughly impressed with the level of service and with the cuisine. From the outset, when we arrived earlier in the day to drop off our three tiered birthday cake my husband made for my mom in law, we were greeted by extremely friendly staff who accommodated us by helping us drop off the cake to store in their walk in fridge. The wait staff during dinner were friendly, helpful, and very attentive. The Sunday Supper was exquisite. All of us enjoyed the food thoroughly- so full of flavour and fantastic portions. We would not hesitate to celebrate all our future events at the Ancaster Old Mill!
This is our second time having Sunday Brunch. Our first experience was outstanding. We would recommend reservations no later than 1:00 p.m. This time our reservation was at 2:15 p.m. We had a wonderful table with a waterfall view, and the service was exceptional; however, the quality and quantity of food not as good as our first visit. The buffet was was picked over, there were numerous empty warming trays in the hot room, and after several visits back to the room, there was still food missing ie no shepherds pie, chicken, dried out lasagna and undercooked bacon, no carved ham. We found that the food is fresher and more abundant when you can get an earlier reservation. We will definately be returning, but will make sure we can get an earlier reservation.
We had a great experience out with a group of 7 for a birthday celebration. For most of us it was a first time at the mill. We look forward to returning in the future.
My Wife & I had our wedding reception at the Mill Dec 2 2017. We decided to have our 1yr wedding anniversary there. Part of my reservation, I requested to see if they could do something / simple for the occasion - Nothing Happened, During our brunch, I went to the front desk and asked if they could do something special for my wife & said I requested this when I reserved as well when I received the phone call a few days prior for the reservation. The manager, said she would do something. I went back to our table, waited patiently & nothing happened . As we were leaving, the manager wished my wife a happy birthday. SAD. Very disappointed. !!!!
Our group of 8 had our office Christmas party on Saturday Dec. 1st. We enjoyed every aspect of the Ancaster Mill except for the noise level in the dining room. The room was packed and in addition their was live music. It was very difficult to hear each other speak and so our experience was quite boring as we sat there looking at each other or screaming at each other to try to have some conversation. The night got better as people left and we were alone in the dining room and could finally share some jokes that everyone could hear. We love this restaurant but would not book another group function during the Christmas season for this reason. The music is a nice addition theoretically but killed it for us in enjoying one another's company. During busy times, it's best to keep it to 4 people or under so everyone can hear each other. The ambiance is amazing, the service is fantastic, the food is great, although the selection is small, definitely worth a visit for a special occasion.
I was at the Ancaster Mill yesterday along with 6 friends. We sat near the water fall which was absolutely gorgeous. The appetizers and entrees were excellent.
Something that could be improved on was the presentation of the dessert. Single pieces of pie were served on bare plates. At least two of the plates looked old and scratched. Some adornment would have made the desserts look more appetizing and would have detracted from the state of the plates.
Supper was to expensive and not worth the money. In the other hand, brunch is a excellent price and the food was sublime to eat. I would not recommend evening supper to anyone as we were served chicken instead of duck. The service was magnificent.
Service was great
my jacket drifted through sour cream which was too close to the edge of table and ended up with sour cream on my jacket and pants. Woman at serving station for crepes immediately helped with a damp cloth and I was cleaned up in a minute. Table service excellent too
The service was very prompt, and our food was delicious! Would definitely come back when in Hamilton!
Great as always
We went here to celebrate our daughters' graduation from University with her master's degree. It was a beautiful setting, quiet which was what we wanted. We had a wonderful waiter who once he knew we had a sense of humour and laughed at our jokes and joined in on a few, which made our experience very pleasant and not stuffy as some fancy places can be.
The ambience ie scenery by the waterfalls is great no matter what season. The food is always delicious and artistically presented. Aunt Susan's pecan pie is out of this world. The pastry is so flaky and the roasted pecans were very tasty. Agreat place to eat for any celebration!
The food was fabulous and the service was impeccable. We celebrated our daughter's graduation at the Ancaster Mill. The waiter was very attentive, the seasonal choices were spot on and ambiance made it a memorable experience. Highly recommend the mill.
Very disappointed with the service staff. As first time visitors our first encounter with wait staff was here is your drink. Little discussions was held with them on any issue. There was no discussion about the buffet set up and organization. We were seated the furthest away from the buffet beside the washrooms. My two friends are seniors with difficulties walking and the seating arrangement was not acceptable. Overview satisfaction is only fair and will have difficulty with a future visit.
My mother and I went there this past Friday to celebrate some good news...and she couldn't have been happier w everything...especially the view of the large cascading ...we requested/sat right in the corner closest to the falls.
again..everything was superb...BRAVO!
The hostesses couldn't have been more helpful in assisting my Mother to her table.
The Ancaster Mill has an excellent kitchen. The brunch has enough variety to satisfy practically anyone, and the service is friendly and professional. The food is wonderfully prepared, though recently the seasonal vegetables (bok choy) were too spicy and the shepherd's pie was so salty that the delicate lamb flavour was spoiled. Otherwise, we were very happy with the brunch.
Excellent service; beautiful venue; good food. Everything we could have wanted was provided!
Absolutely lovely. The service was outstanding and I don't think we tried anything that didn't "wow" us. The whole night was perfection.
Our visit was a birthday celebration. A special occasion dinner celebration at the Ancaster Mill is a guilty pleasure that we always enjoy experiencing. We've been to the Mill several times previously and have no doubt, will be again several times in the future.
I had Sunday brunch with my boyfriend on my birthday. It was the second time I joined the brunch so easy to tell I liked here. The food quality was consistent but I should give 'Poor' as my review to the service. We arrived on time and was guided by a very non-professional girl to an unacceptably small table. We asked for changing and she agreed, but then we were told that table was reserved for some girls' party reason. That was a common square table accommodates for two (all the other tables of that size in the restaurant were using for two people), so it was totally non sense if we had to eat with a tiny table like a casual coffee shop. We refused to take the small table and we were placed waiting for another 45 mins later than our reservation. It is very low standard of service considering the restaurant image, no solution, no preparation, no compensation. I still gave two stars but not a negative star (which I wanted) was because the third waitress / receptionist talked to us was accommodating and at least smiling professionally.
Sunday Brunch is exceptional. Everything from the food, drinks, ambiance and service.
My wife and I married there in 1996. Awesome as always.
Wonderful experience, definitely come back.
This was our second time visit as a group. The waiter remembered us when we sat at bar waiting for table. It was always a pleasant dining experience. Top recommendation!
took my parents to celebrate dads 73rd birthday. they were amazed that they had never been to this gem of an experience. great service. amazing food and honestly we felt as if we were treated like royalty. second trip for me and my third went be far behind! 10 stars!!!
While the hot food for brunches wasn’t anything too special, my girlfriend and i love this place. Mimosas on the house that keep coming, a cozy feel, and a beautiful view of the waterfall. Fancy, but authentic not obnoxious.
We went for the five course meal. Delicious. The service was wonderful and each dish was explained. Although expensive, it was worth it. The ambiance was beautiful. Each course was well prepared - not too much, so that at the end we were very satisfied. I highly recommend it for a special occasion.
Wonderful family-style service. Great for sharing. Wonderful food and great service. A quaint, beautiful setting.
We went for the Sunday Brunch and that was really good. Really enjoyed the selection of seafood and the oysters were so fresh and clean, one of the best my husband and I have ever had. Also a good selection of cheeses and appetizers.
The hot buffet was a bit more limited but still enough choice including an omelette station, eggs bennie, home made pierogies and a carving station, plus a couple of chicken dishes and veggies / potatoes, there was also lasagna and shepherd's pie (did not like the latter so much). Would have been nice to have a few more vegetarian or more healthy options.
The desserts selection was very good, everything tasted great.
The staff was really nice and waitress was available at the beckon of a hand, excellent service. The venue is beautiful, with a small waterfall at the back where the mill was, very cozy and picturesque.
Overall we thought considering the food selection, it is really good value for the money and we would definitely go back and recommend it to friends!
Went for Sunday brunch and everything was fantastic. Excellent selection and the food is top notch.
An Exceptional dining experience! We went for the Sunday Brunch once again as it is one of our favorites. The staff from the parking attendants to the hostesses to the service staff are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, experienced and quite simply are some of the best! The ambiance is second to none in the area.
I cannot praise the Ancaster Old Mill enough.
Thanks for a wonderful dining experience.
We were there celebrating an 85th birthday. Our bill was brought to us while we were still eateing and were told that we only had the table for 2 hours. Having had numerous conversations with reservation staff prior to the celebration, would it not have occurred to someone to mention that policy??? All the guests had driven significant distances from out of town and were rushed out without presents being opened or speeches made. No warning about this 2 hour policy, I feel, was entirely irresponsible service. Had we known, we would have looked to dinner Saturday. Truly an awful end to what started as a lovely celebration for my father!
Nice view of the falls when you sitting beside window.
Great food and service. Love to come back every year for our anniversary!
beautiful surroundings, great customer service and service itself. Nice rooms, food well display and a good variety of great food.
Delicious as always. Waiter could have refilled coffee more frequently.
Service our waiter is really very good and we were seated at falls view, so nice the best spot in the restaurant. It made the birthday of my friend complete.
