Situated beside a creek, with a large dining room built out overlooking the falls, Ancaster Mill is in demand year-round for weddings, family or corporate events and celebrations. Restored to keep its authentic character intact, this is a place where ambience fuses with fine food and great service.
horseradish cream, onion jam
10 oz striploin, tomato corn salad, sauce choron
Fantastic food! Ancaster Old Mill is far better than Toronto, which has been going downhill for a number of years.
Ambience neglected and tables set for a buffet or wedding in the middle of the dining room
Steaks came cold drenched in a creamy corn sauce and very tough. Menu very limited and the only enjoyable item was the corn bread with maple butter
Server tried very hard to make things up
The nice outdoor setting with the waterfalls doesn’t belong to this restaurant
They should just focus on weddings
We have had other dinners here, and have all been outstanding. Recently we went for a wedding anniversary, and while we expected some changes to the seating and restaurant in general, we were quite disappointed with the food overall. I ordered the Steak Frites and it was a quality I would have expected at a chain restaurant like Kelsey’s. My wife ordered the salmon and it was mediocre. Previously we had the ‘tasting experience’ and when we asked about that the server indicated they were the cutbacks to ensure quality’. Again, we expected some changes, but overall the menu was more pub/casual dining than we have experienced in the past, and our bill was 170 which seems pricey given the meal only slightly better than a chain restaurant. Ambiance was still amazing with the waterfall and lovely lighting.... we also missed smaller touches like no linens on the table, plates and silverware were ordinary etc. We will be back, but when it is back to full operation not the ‘cutbacks to ensure quality’.
Not the usual quality of the Mill. Limited menu. 2 appetizers and 2 mains all disappointing
Ancaster Mill is a favourite spot for brunch, but entirely understandable, brunch is not an option just yet.
When booking for dinner, two items were specified: a closer view of the falls as a backdrop, and a birthday celebration. Neither were obliged, and even a friendly “welcome, thank you for celebrating your birthday with Ancaster Mill” wasn’t shared.
Service was decent, at best. Somehow, being seated ahead of two other waiting parties meant that our dinner and drinks would be served last.
The whole experience was a very relaxing one. Scenery was beautiful, food was excellent, staff was friendly and helpful.
The food was very good, the service was okay. The server did not come to the table very often and it took a king time to receive our order. The ambience was poor as the room we were seated in was a spare room, very bare and the carpets were all stained.
The waiters were excellent! Very attentive and friendly, turned on the fireplace outside a bit earlier after we mentioned it would be nice. The food was good, not extraordinary but good. The potato appetizers are amazing! The cheeseburger could be better with a Mac sauce or something like that. Dessert was o.k. Ambiance is over the. Top. We sat beside waterfall and the experience was extraordinary. Most beautiful restaurant I've been too!
We would loved to have seen a fish or seafood option in the appetizer. Also was disappointed in the desert selection. Loved our seat and the food we ordered was fabulous. Great service. Will definitely be back.
The waterfall is definitely lovely and unique. Food is good and service is nice.
As someone who has been here many times, I was very disappointed. We went to celebrate our first wedding anniversary (a very special occasion), came from out of town and for the first time ever were very disappointed. We requested a table in the main room by the waterfall and were placed far away by the bar, near a family with a very dissatisfied child (a very loud and unhappy 7 year old). A couple who arrived after us were seated in the spot we had requested which was the first of our disappointment. They ask if you are celebrating anything special, to which I filled out an anniversary - this was not acknowledged (as it had been in the past for our dating anniversaries)... why ask if you don't plan to say anything about it. They no longer provide complimentary bread - I am sure COVID will be used as an excuse but there is no logical reason for this. The menu was the worst I have ever seen, the options were nothing special... I used to enjoy the unique menu options (a cheeseburger should not be on their menu). The chicken we ordered was subpar - something myself or my husband could easily cook - and the ratatouille looked unappetizing and the taste was not much better. While he was nice, our waiter never checked on us - most of his attention was on his tables in the main area. Overall, it was VERY disappointing and not how it used to be pre-COVID. It is unlikely we will ever go back, nor would we recommend it to friends. We left feeling hungry, and like we wasted our money. We went to McDonald's after, at least you know what you'll get for you money.
🤔 The service was great, the wine choice was commendable, the salmon and chicken were tasty.
Was not properly informed that the Ancaster Mill was NOT holding their Sunday Brunch. All advertising on their website and Open Tables didn’t indicate that and should have since it was the primary reason for my reservation at the Ancaster Mill.
For the first time I can recall, I had a very average meal at the Ancaster Mill. The caesar salad was extremely gloppy, way overdressed. I asked for salmon add-on to be blackened, but it arrived not blackened. When the server returned to the table, I indicated it was not blackened and he replied, " they don't know to blacken it, they did the best they could." Why not tell me when I ordered it that way, or
why not say something when it brought out?
A nice place with poor quality food.
great place to eat. great food and ambience. highly recommended.
The portions are a little on the small side.
My husband had the 10oz steak dinner and while it was cooked to perfection he was still hungry afterwards. The steak was a good size but it would have been nice if there were more fries added to the dinner.
I had the chicken dinner and was also still a little hungry.
Table was outside by the waterfall. Excellent waiter. Very good food. Recommend if you are looking for a special occasion place. It won't disappoint.
The pasta was not delicious as expected. My husband didn’t feel well after eating it. It was his birthday. So I was disappointed
We had an incredible meal, wonderful view, excellent service and truly enjoyed our evening.
Great food, accommodating, courteous and pleasant staff, incredible ambience.
Beautiful place to celebrate a special occasion!
Service poor, food outstanding
We had a wonderful time. Waiter was very helpful.
We were greeted with a warm welcome and escorted to our table. We were given a barcode to scan in order to view the menu. Great idea for touchless viewing. The server brought water immediately. Once our order was placed it wasn’t long before we had our meals. Delicious! The ambiance was quiet. There were no kids. It was a great place for an adult night out.
Wonderful patio...quiet, waterfall, fireplace..amazing spot in Ancaster....service was impeccable
The View is great! I like it very much! But the food is not my style.
The beautiful venue did not match the menu or the plating.
Very good Birthday dinner
The Ancaster Mill is a very pretty spot no doubt. My husband and I celebrated our 29th anniversary in August 2020. Thought I'd have a bigger selection once I got there but disappointingly there were only 4 appetizers and 5 entreés to choose from on the menu. Not sure if this was due to Covid-19 but very poor choice. Each dish had something I did not like so had to make due with the next best option. Food was okay but not memorable if you are a foodie like me. I was not dying over it. I normally take photos and post on Instagram but presentation was underwhelming. Would I go back? Im not sure. There are so many better dining places elsewhere and once the novelty of the falls wares off, there is not much left. If you decide to go, book outdoors closer to the falls on upper patio, not the sidewalk where everyone passes by.
We enjoyed sitting outside. The weather was great, so the experience was spectacular. We felt like we were sitting in a hillside European Villa.
Beautiful location, wonderful service, and the food was good.
Terrific meal, great service, beautiful location...
Food and atmosphere was amazing, looking forward to returning to one of their locations
Amazing staff, great food and beautiful atmosphere.
We had an absolutely wonderful dining experience. We got to sit outdoors right by the waterfall. The environment was perfect. We had to cancel our wedding this year because of covid but decided to go out for a nice dinner on our "would have been" wedding day. The staff were fantastic. We loved the potatoe croquettes. Portion sizes for food were good for the price. We will definitely come back again for dinner.
No kids this weekend! Such a great night out - we love it here! Loyal customers.
The place is stunning and we were able to enjoy an outside table overlooking the water falls
We were quite disappointed with the menu
We know it’s Covid and menus are restricted but
Having a burger , plain green salad , salmon and a chicken dish in such an elegant place was disappointing
Also I’m vegetarian and the only vegetarian choice was a plain green salad
Server seemed stressed and not very attentive
Have been wanting to go there for a long time . Can’t say I will return sadly
Homemade Pasta with brisket was incredible. My wife's salmon with green tahini was exquisite. I did notice that the steak and chicken were significantly bigger from a portion standpoint, almost 2x the portions of the pasta and salmon, but then again so was their price. I'm giving the food a 4* because the Terrine -which doesn't *always* have Pork or meat in it- didn't have the main ingredient (Pork) listed in the breakdown. Had we known it contained pork, we wouldn't have ordered it. I don't get why they'd list the unimportant ingredients (pickles etc) and leave out the pork.
I look forward to our next visit there.
They asked if we were celebrating any
Excellent overall, food was great, I was really hoping to try the Cornish Hen but due to COVID-19 they were working on a limited menu.
