Situated beside a creek, with a large dining room built out overlooking the falls, Ancaster Mill is in demand year-round for weddings, family or corporate events and celebrations. Restored to keep its authentic character intact, this is a place where ambience fuses with fine food and great service.
The Ancaster is a gorgeous place, especially in the fall. Food is creative, delicious and not pretentious. I docked a star because the size of rooms lacks intimacy but this is compensated for by the warmth of the design. Also, all that glass leads to a higher level of noise than perfect. However, all that glass allows spectacular views of the falls and gardens. All in all, a wonderful special place!
The Ancaster Mill is a beautiful location. If you go, make sure to request a seat by the window. The service is good but I was disappointed with the food. We ordered the chicken entree and the chicken was nicely done but the chanterelles and the sauce were not hot and the greens under the chicken was cold. For the price I was expecting a lot more. Also, when I booked the reservation I noted that it was for a birthday celebration. There was absolutely no recognition at all. Very disappointing.
I can't remember how many times I've been & each time is amazing....the blueberry/white chocolate scones were to die for, however I do miss the pot de creme on the dessert table....as usual the smoked salmon & oysters were delicious....would have liked to have seen mashed potatoes to go with the turkey & dressing but the gravy was great.....the only thing which was disappointing was our seating location....I know you need as much seating as possible but we were seated right at the edge of the dining area beside the soup, it was very busy with people brushing up against us & our table......do prefer to sit elsewhere......will be back soon.....thank you.....PS....the owners young son was working & he was a great worker, & did a great job.... always keeping busy & checking on things, great to see..
My entire group was disappointed that there was only breakfast potatoes to go with the prime rib and turkey
We do end up paying to an extent for everyone else's more costly indulgences, such as seafood which is an awful thing to eat gross.
Birthday and Thanksgiving
The food was absolutely delicious but when I tried to change the reservation earlier it said extra guests could not be accommodated but when we arrived the restaurant was empty. We were there celebrating my mom's birthday and she was given a lovely piece of blueberry pie with a candle. :)!
Well the property is beautiful! The food was ok. The wine was great the service was chain restaurant service. We were looking for a regular restaurant tipped 25% but got 5% experience. This is a great place to go if you are looking to look and pay for an expense experience but to get a Boston pizza experience. Very disappointed
Absolutely amazing. Beautiful setting, great atmosphere and the best brunch buffet I've ever had. Favorite s were the Shepard's pie and most of all the apple crisp. I would recommend the old mill to everyone.
Very good. Great service and fabulous food.
Brunch at Ancaster Mill was beautiful. Amazing ambience. Excellent staff. Great food. Expensive but worth the value for what you get. Pretty surroundings. Would highly recommend.
Ancaster Old Mill is perfect for any special occasion. The grounds are beautiful for a fall walk. Gorgeous
We’ve been here many times and we always have an amazing time. I have no complaints besides that we had to we 20 minutes past our reservation for a table. Everyone was super nice and as always the food was delicious.
My husband and I were here for lunch to celebrate his birthday. My birthday was earlier in the week. We drop by here on occasion for lunch, Sunday supper or a family gathering. This day, the restaurant was unusually busy, due to I believe a bus tour arriving about an hour before us. Despite this, the service was prompt and attentive. Unfortunately they had sold out of the appetizer I had my heart set on so I went with my second choice, the Tuscan style soup. What a pleasant surprise! Not the thick, heavy ribollita I would have expected, but a wonderfully light and tasty broth with just the right amount of beans, kale and croutons. I wished I had asked for the recipe!
For the entree, we both chose the chicken, which normally doesn't excite me, but this was different. The delicate skin was crispy and flavourful and lemon cream sauce was divine, as was the handmade gnocchi and pretty little chanterelles. Beyond impressed and very happy! We also had dessert, which was good, but unremarkable. All portions were generous.
We had heard there might be some acknowledgement of the birthday which was indicated on the reservation, but there was none. However that would not prevent us from returning again before long. I may have to come back just to try the smoked burrata with peach and basil pesto which I missed out on.
Great service. Salmon was incredible. The Bratta exceptional. The $45 three course lunch is an excellent value.
Amazing! We coming every year, and every year we are blown away by the amazing food and service.
Been here several times and every time it is a good experience, food was great and the service superb
I had an amazing dinner and my boyfriend proposed to me by the bridge! What a perfect night!
Parking was difficult. Apparently there were three weddings Greeter was great when we checked in. We were seated along the main walkway right by the huge buffet table where their dessert was being displayed and served. Looks like our table was just added along with another couple in front of their singer. Poor guy no one was paying attention to him. It was noisy. No ambiance, because of our location which was bright. The servers looked rushed. Our server was quick. We ordered Buratta Cheese for my wife and Seared Albacore Tuna. When they served us they brought out two Albacore Tuna. Our server noticed that we were waiting and when we told her what happened she went in to get the right order. Unfortunately it was cold. Looks like it just came out of the ref. They forgot to warm it up? For our main we ordered the Pork Chop and the Salmon. Both were over salted. The pork chop was dry. The presentation was poor for both our meals and appetizers. We were glad we did not order their tasting menu because the table beside us had it and it looked awful. Does not come close to the tasting menus we have had from the winery restaurants in the Niagara region. We didn’t bother ordering dessert. So this is why we have Rem a generous 3 rating.
Wonderful location, excellent service and the food was marvellous. Totally recommended!
Overall a great experience - the ambiance and service for our Sunday supper were top notch.
- cocktails (had the peach sour and berry bellini, both were amazing)
- salmon (well seasoned and skin was nice and crispy)
- pies (hard to choose whether we enjoyed the blueberry or pecan pie better)
Would go back.
Underwhelming for the price.
Oysters were room temperature which was really off putting and not shucked properly.
Layout of the buffet was odd.
Girls at front desk were super judgemental and snooty, so much so that after we left my boyfriend made a comment about it. This is so unnecessary and lame that people still feel the urge to behave this way. Especially woman to woman.
Would not recommend unless you are really going in for the bottomless mimosas and Cesar’s and can tolerate the chaos of a disorganized buffet.
If I could give 6 stars, I would! Can’t wait to return.
The food and experience of the Ancaster Mill always has us coming back. What is disappointing is the attire of some of the patrons. I would love to see a dress code for the restaurant as yesterday there were several people dressed in outfits that were less than appropriate for the atmosphere.
Service remains great. Quality of the food at brunch could be improved (cheese, charcuterie, omelette ingredients). Happy to pay a few more dollars for slightly improved food. Variety of options remains great.
BUT not on Sundays. The place was CHAOTIC, We will give it one more chance on another day.
No question the best brunch in Hamilton. Very picturesque setting. amazing variety of food to meet any taste.
Been awhile since our previous visit and we found it too expensive for mediocre breakfast food.
Well it is about the same.
The young lad on the omelette table made very poor omelettes. They were rushed end result was thin pale egg wrapping some cold berries and unmelted cheese.
Same for the young kid making crepes.
Bacon not crispy.
Orange juice seemed not fresh squeezed.
Potato salad was thin slices and tasteless.
The breads and pastry we tried were unremarkable.
Some dishes were empty or at the bottom of the container.
Unless you are into eating seafood, clams or lobster then overpriced @ $145.00 with tip for two people.
we had a lovely lunch in the waterfalls room. Andrew was a delightful waiter. he listened to our orders and requests. the serving staff was very quick in providing us with our delicious lunch. the food was very tasty and very artistically presented. thank you for your wonderful service to make my friend's birthday lunch so special.
Fantastic ambiance and 6 star service. Had a great time and great food. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a romantic night out.
This place is beautiful! We arrived for Sunday brunch and then I proposed to my girlfriend on the bridge in front of the waterfall.
The staff were super friendly and helpful! I called ahead to let them know what I was planning. They gave us the best seats right in front of the falls. When it came time, our waiter was waiting (no pun) with my phone to take a picture of our special moment. He also brought out 2 glasses of champagne for us which I wasn't expecting. They really took a lot of the stress away from a nervous scenario which Im really grateful for!
The food was excellent. We took our time and sampled most of the offerings. Tge only thinh we werent crazy about was the desserts. But by that time we were already stuffed so it didnt matter.
Overall, a stunning venue to eat, propose or get married in. We will definitely be back and recommend it to our friends!
Class class class. Gorgeous place, lovely service, personable hostess, a pleasure. Would love to hold an event here or just bring my husband back for a romantic evening. Great job guys!
We had a lovely lunch in the waterfalls room. Kyle was an excellent waiter. The team of servers were very efficient and friendly. The food was very artistically presented. Our appetizer was started before we thought of a photo. Thank you kyle for making it such a lovely birthday celebration! We appreciated ryan going out of his way so we could see the chapel.
Very fast service. Worth my wallet. 10/10 would recommend. Possible last meal on death row.
Great service. Sat promptly. Fantastic food and ambiance!
Another wonderful evening and meal at the Mill. This time of year features the Farmer's menu with farm to table selections. The tomato appetizer and the burrata appetizer were shareable and delicious. The pork entree was bourbon glazed with greens and a corn muffin with pickles inside. The portion was generous and presentation wonderful. The second entree was picture perfect - pasta with fresh beets and fresh vegetables. Serve by Andrew exceeded expectations. Tuesday evening saw a small crowd so noise levels were non-existent
Very nice. Really enjoyed the waterfall. Food was great as was the service
It was my daughter in laws birthday
