The original jewel in the Oliver & Bonacini crown and a North Toronto icon, Auberge du Pommier has been serving guests since 1987. Our party of four sampled the Summerlicious menu. Appetizers were fine, excepting the chicken liver parfait which had an unpleasant texture and excessively sweet flavour. Risotto and cod were both excellent; steak was a bit tough. Deserts were delightful. Service was superb.

To be clear, the Auberge has been a favourite of ours for years. We don't go every month but it's our go-to place for birthdays or annivesaries or to entertain friends. We always enjoy our meals. However, our most recent visit was problematic. The ambience is as graceful and comfortable as ever. The staff are very professional. Our server at our dinner was excellent. At our dinner, the food we received was, for the most part, very tasty, save an "amuse" that was far too salty. So why not a higher rating? Though the food was good, the quantity of what we received was meagre. You know when you go that it's a high-end restaurant and your meal will be expensive. However, an appetizer of two scallops was $38. Our main of duck breast (for $68) consisted of four small, thin slices of duck and a strip of beet purée. The presentation was artful but could not conceal the fact that the plate was half empty. I don't get any pleasure in writing this but I have to express my disappointment at this last visit to what has always been a favourite dining spot.

Quality of the food was very good and great service. Lovely ambiance. It was our first time at this restaurant and wanted to try the summerlicious menu feature that was also part of the regular menu, hoping that we would love our total experience to come back for special occasions. We enjoyed the appetizer (foies gras) and the dessert (lemon meringue tart and chocolate mousse cake), but very surprised with the seafood as it looked more like an appetizer than the main. The foies gras dish was larger and more filling than the main…just a few flakes of the fish, 2 large mussels, some mushrooms and potatoes. The menu said fish was poached so we expected a filet or at least chunks but only a few flakes of the fish was served. So all in all, our total experience was just ok because the flavours and service was good but I wouldn’t say I had good value.

Utterly underwhelming experience. Had anyone at the restaurant asked how anything was, I would have let them know but they did not. I had the pea risotto for $32 - it was tasteless and mushy. My daughter enjoyed her salmon. We had to wait for water. No one inquired about the meal even when my plate was taken away. My credit card sat on the table for a long time. No one asked on the way out how everything was. The bright spot was the hostess who was lovely on the way in. And of course the patio is lovely which is one of the reasons I thought to go back after not having been to the restaurant for many years. Won’t be back unfortunately.

We had the Summerlicious menu for lunch. Vichyssoise was exceptional. Steak frites was good. Some gristle in the meat. Desserts were wonderful. No tea or coffee were offered. Server was attentive and considerate of a food sensitivity.

As always, expectations at Auberge are always surpassed. We've been regulars for the past many years and have never, ever been disappointed with any aspect of dining here. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The Auberge is the preeminant French restaurant in Toronto for good reason beyond only the menu and the food. We always choose to dine here for special occasions since it is a very special place.

The welcome at Auberge is always wonderful. I don't get there as often as I'd like, and they always are warm, welcoming, remember who I am, and know my allergies. The food is exceptional. The service is lovely. It's a joy to be there.

The food here is usually excellent, but I thought their summerlicious pre-fix menu was just average. I would definitely go back, but stick to items on their regular a la cart menu. Service is very professional, but it does take time to get your order taken.

Beautiful ambiance and excellent service, our time at Auberge du Pommier began with a spirited cocktail, followed by smooth-as-silk paté complemented with wild blueberry compote. My steak frites sat upon a green peppercorn sauce, sided by grated courgette. The menu said BBQ courgette but I struggled to taste any hint of char. Not a problem, this texture worked well within the meal. My steak was perfectly cooked to medium-rare, however, there were a few bits that took some time to chew thoroughly. It being International Chocolate Day, I had to order the Chocolate Gateau and it did not disappoint! The chocolate mousse, sponge and Chantilly were deliciously balanced.

The food was delicious and eloquently presented. The service was the best I've ever had at any restaurant.
