The first supper club in the US was established in the 1920s in Beverly Hills by Milwaukee native Lawrence Frank. In their heyday in the ‘50s and ‘60s, supper clubs were social hubs; comfortable places to gather and enjoy great food, drinks and company. Traditionally supper clubs were considered a destination where patrons would spend the entire night, from cocktail hour to after-dinner ice cream drinks. We salute that supper club spirit by serving up creative variations of classic food and drinks in an updated mid-century modern setting.

We celebrated my daughter's 19th birthday as a brunch there and the food was outstanding. I had a gooey Eggs Benedict and others had variations of eggs and waffles. Bloody Mary's were great. My only complaint would be how skittish our waitress was. She stood far behind us during any interaction and made infrequent trips to our table. I understand COVID-19 concerns are around us but she acted as if we all just tested positive. We were not comfortable. This was very off putting. Perhaps she belongs in the kitchen or in some other vocation. We will return but probably request another table server.

Pretty quiet with limited seating and social distancing. All tables were seated. Had to remind server about soup and salad when entree was brought out. Ordered salmon with Pasta Primavera, but didn't get the salmon with the pasta. Had to ask server for this also.

My sister and I came to dinner because it was the anniversary of our mother’s passing and this was her favorite restaurant so we were there to celebrate her. Service was amazing and the food was great.

Food and drinks are amazing. If you order food during happy hour the old fashions are only $1.99 and they are perfect (also enjoyed the tiki drinks as well). Wonderful fish fry (on fridays and Sunday brunch) and extremely friendly service. Always are great meal and is constantly viewed as one of our go-to restaurants.

Very friendly service, food was outstanding, but as I had indicated it was a Birthday I expected a bit more than a casual “happy birthday hope your day is going well”. The offer of a drink or a dessert would have been appreciated. The person celebrating chose The Avenue over any other restaurant in Madison, a lifelong resident celebrating 84 years! I will return to The Avenue, but not for a special occasion. Some of the personal service that was present before this became another of the Food Fight acquisitions has now been lost in my estimation.

Went for dinner during happy hour and it was perfect. Not too crowded so no problems Covid-wise so that was great. Patrick was our server and he was very friendly and helpful. Food was great (we had the walleye special and a turkey club sandwich and both were delicious). Tried a “pink pony” for desert and it was a great finish to a wonderful meal. Not our first visit to the Bubbleup and definitely not our last.

When we visit Madison (from Iowa), we usually make it a point to visit the Avenue Club. It's been nicely remodeled in the recent past. We especially like the beer-battered cod dinner. The fish is nicely fried in the light batter. We also enjoyed the wedge salad on this visit. It was thick with tomatoes, bacon bits and blue cheese chucks. In the past, we also enjoyed the fried cheese curds. Our server was very attentive and we appreciated her service. The social-distancing was perfectly carried out in this restaurant and all the staff wore masks. We felt very safe eating here, as it was our first time eating inside a restaurant in the past 5 months. We will be back!

The website makes The Avenue Club appear to be an upscale urban supper club. It is not. Inside it was worn out and old. The food, service and drinks were all poor. I will not be returning. I encourage everyone to visit before booking a reservation to make sure you know what you are getting.

This place was great! My partner and I came here for his birthday (our first outing in months) and they were great about everything. Avenue Club has social distancing and COVID-19 precautions down to a T. They had hand sanitizer, a color sign system to minimize contact, a 1 way path through the restaurant, and a table to put dishes on when they’re done, again to minimize contact. The restaurant itself is insanely clean, beautiful, and contains all of the best parts of mid-century modern style. Our server was great, very friendly and attentive, as were the host and food runner. My partner had the cod fish fry and LOVED it, and I had one of the best Rubens I’ve ever had!! For some context, I worked in one of the oldest WI Supper Clubs waitressing and bartending for several years and haven’t found a replacement here in Madison until now. This place is the real deal! My brandy old fashioned sour was absolutely stellar- strong, sour, and loaded with bitters, exactly as it should be :) My partner’s ale was delicious as well. The drinks were reasonably priced and so was my meal. My partner’s was a tiny bit on the pricey side, but nothing too bananas, especially for a real deal fish fry in Madison. We will be coming back when everything clears up and will probably become regulars here!

The fries were especially delicious that night, extra crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was our second time back for indoor dining since they reopened and they have excellent safety protocols in place on top of having our favorite cocktails in Madison and delicious food.

This was not our first visit, we have patronized the Avenue for many years, prior to the current owners. The new owners and management have really put a modern spin the the Avenue, and we love it. Food was really great! Nice quiet atmosphere which we prefer.
