I came to Bacchus for Dine Out Vancouver 2020. The Dine Out menu was great with solid choices. The food was exquisite. The service made me feel aristocratic. The ambiance was great. There was live piano performance. The light was dimmed to a comfortable brightness and had this mellow color temperature. And shout out to the chair. It was really comfortable. The Dine Out menu was $45 and the wine pairing option was $38 per person. If you choose wine pairing, you will get a type of wine for each course, e.g., 3 oz for appetizer, 6 oz for main course, and 3 oz for dessert. The type of wine you get depends on the food you order. So, it came to just over $100 per person with tax and gratuity in the end. For me, it was worth the high end fine dining experience.

It was lovely except that our guests sent champagne to another table and asked for a separate bill as it was our treat. The champagne ended up on our bill and we couldn’t bring it up

We make a reservation in this restaurant to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. I was positively surprised for the quality of food and service. We will come back again soon.

The food quality was nothing special. While the ingredient and recipe choices were interesting, I did not feel like the delivery was especially noteworthy. Every thing I ordered had a couple of issues with it.

For instance, my salad was overseasoned. The foie gras dish was overwhelmed by sweet flavours. The lobster appetizer dish was not what I expected and was unfortunately rather tasteless.

I am a frequent guest of the Wedgewood Hotel and Bacchus Restaurant. Our favourite place to stay and dine in town! The service is always good and respectful and I appreciate the traditional charm of the ambiance. My friends enjoyed their lunch experience. It was good value. Sadly, there was a rather loud female diner at the next table whose raucous laughter interrupted our conversation at times! Nonetheless, I will be back. Thank you!

Dinner started off great with a very friendly host and we were seated near the piano in which was extremely pleasant. Unfortunately our server did not make us feel comfortable or was attentive. Other servers that came to our table were very nice but ours seemed to give off a bit of a rude and rushed vibe. We shared the tuna tataki and that was delicious. We also had the duck (a little dry) and the sablefish with scallops (fish was a too salty and the scallops were quite small). We also had the truffle mushroom risotto and it was nothing to rave about but ok if you needed a side but we really didn’t need it, thought it was going to be nice to add especially with truffle but could not taste the truffle. Overall, not worth the price of almost $200 for 2 people and 1 glass of wine.

All meal offerings looked very good. The meals we chose were well proportioned and delicious. We particularly appreciated our waiter who was easy to talk to and informative.

My only comment is about the young gentleman who was at the front desk with the hostess. When he brought us our coats at the end of the evening, he handed us our coats but helped one of the men in our group put his coat on.
I didn't appreciate this at all. He should have helped the ladies put on their coats on first.
It was not busy.
Bad etiquette and not properly trained.

Hi - the food was excellent and so were the drinks. However, my server dropped quarter of my drink while placing it on the table.. took her time to clean it and didn’t even offer a replacement drink. Disappointing service for Bacchus.

Specifically asked for a quiet table and we were thrown next to a party of 10. Bread was hard and stale and my tooth almost fell out when I bit into it. Asked for white bread and was told there was none. Supervisor then came over and offered white toast. The server was decent but he forgot the mandarin oranges and nutmegs which is customary practice upon bringing the check. Finally, received an email informing that I "missed" the reservation when I was clearly seated.

We dined for Christmas family lunch, very poor service! No menu’s were brought to us, challenging to wave down a waiter to get some drinks, waited 30 min before we got menu’s and drinks. Fixed menu wasn’t anything special either. We find one waiter very rude, had to ask for a different waiter. It a shame as we had a great experience 2 years ago on Christmas, seemed like a lot had changed.

It wasn’t until I picked a 5th bottle of wine for them to have it in stock... literally... and it took time to find out what was not available. A long time. And it took at least 1:30 for the entrees to arrive. The food was just ok. It all took so long we took 80% of it to go. The server did have a good attitude, and did comp a dessert. But at that point, a rating as a top notch Vancouver restaurant was left way in the dust. There simply is no excuse for such a mediocre and EXPENSIVE experience for such a potentially nice place. Sadly I probably wouldn’t bother again.

In light of Mr. Sweetman’s response, I will make a return visit.

Food was amazing
Restaurant was very full for Christmas which made it fun but prefer it more quiet on our usual visits

Service was very friendly and good but not what it should be for fine dining

Waiters kept reaching over the table to serve the farther side and pour water etc. Even though there was plenty of room to walk around the table

Plate removal was better but similarity awkward

Table wasn’t reset before second course arrived

For the price point and reputation service should be flawless

Food was outstanding

Room is old school and albeit nice could use a serious redo

Having said all that I still love the wedgewood

We came to Vancouver for the weekend to celebrate out anniversary and our dinner experience was wonderful. Our server was exceptional, very efficient, answered our questions on the menu and provided a nice pace for our meal. He didn't under do it or over do it. The ambience, including Christmas music by the piano player, was very relaxing. I try to avoid restaurants that are noisy and the levels here were reasonable so we could carry on a quiet conversation without having to yell at each other which is all to frequent these days. My salmon dish was very nice with good portions and nicely cooked. My wife loved her vegan cassoulet and said it was very flavorful with a very interesting use of spices. The price was a little high for our budget but it was worth the splurge.

Lunched at Bacchus on a Saturday so the Brunch menu was in effect. The food was very good, the service was good and the ambiance as always was lovely. The decor was over the top excellent for the season! The only negative was that it was very noisy and a couple of ladies at the bar were very loud. I do not think of this location as appropriate for that type of 'bar' behaviour. Other than that it was perfect.

I felt the service was not at the level I expected. I have been there three times this month and this week was by far a different level of service. I had made a reservation for a Christmas lunch.
First we waited to be noticed and finally she came over and did not offer a wine list so I requested one. There was no bread service until I asked and there was no quality check on the food or refills offered on the coffee, tea and wine.
At the end of the meal dessert was not offered. I felt it was a very arduous experience.

Food and service is excellent. Food portion are bit small for price you pay but most high end restaurants are like that. Place is warm and cozy. Nice change from modern, cold and impersonal places. Wine sommelier was very helpful picking out a reasonably priced wine to match sablefish and lamb. We liked wine so much I bought a bottle at liquor store.

I frequent most of the 'fine dining' restaurants in Vancouver but never before went to Bacchus. I had high expectations that were not fulfilled. Despite coming before the big dinner crowd arrived service was outrageously slow. It took a half house to get bread on the table {and then only after asking for it}. Ordered appetizers took 45 minutes to appear after being ordered and mains didn't appear until our appetizers were long finished. And yet I had a full close view of the kitchen staff the whole while, who seemed to move in slow motion, spending as much time hanging out as cooking. Servers were friendly but rarely seen, and made little attempt to relate or to explain their offerings. And then the food itself was pretty ordinary. A lot of offerings were xxx 'on a bed of yyy'--which is fine if you bother to meld the two together taste-wise. But there seemed little attempt to do this. My advice is to walk the 100 meters or so off to the nearby French fine dining establishment that completely outclasses this place.

This place is awesome. The mushroom soup and salad for appetizers were perfect. My Filet Mignon was cooked spot on and delicious. My wife had the pasta and she was ready to lick the.plate. Coffee was just right also. I loved it.

Very disappointed with service this time. I traditionally book this lounge for special occasions and was meeting a girlfriend for an Xmas brunch/lunch. My guest arrived before me and was seated at the worst inside table (she is not one to complain). We ordered a drink and waited and waited...the order was missed. We had only one offer of bread and one fill of water glasses without flagging staff. We ordered food and first course came fine but fir the dessert course one of the two items was again missed. The cappuccino ordered was a latte and late. By time second dessert arrive my guest was finished her leisurely consumption. We thought okay busy let’s just end with a post meal drink. Took another fifteen minutes to get two French 77s .... while I love the atmosphere the quality of the service and overpriced drinks (non alcoholic and alcoholic) will make us rethink where we celebrate our traditional Xmas brunch next year. Truly disappointing

The gentleman working at the restaurant reception must have been having a very bad or busy day, so he was very grumpy and not providing a professional service. Our server even apologized to me for his rudeness. Not good experience at all.

I have been coming here for years and appreciate the consistent quality, the lovely room with the wonderful attached lounge, the live piano music, and, above all, the attentive service. For me, its the perfect spot for a drink with a friend (new or old) or a charming dinner. (Hint: don't sit near the piano if you are in the mood for conversation). The food is more traditional than cutting edge, but it is always prepared with care and attention to the last detail. I hope to dine here for the next 20 years. I thought the mignonette for the kushi oysters was a bit overpowering, but the sablefish could not have been better.
