Food was fantastic drinks were fantastic! Service a bit inconsistent our server seemed to pay attention to bigger parties more than us. It was our anniversary had friends go where they wrote happy anniversary on the plate, not us. We did get a complementary dessert. Maybe it was just busy?
Just way way too loud in this place
This place is always amazing, from the food to the views and the service. Everything from start to finish is wonderful, we will be back again soon!
The service, the food and especially the view was spectacular!
Great views, great service, great food. Would definitely go again.
Mai Tais! Blistered shishitos! Coconut shrimp! Views of San Diego! Great staff!
DenMarie was our server. Outstanding service. The noise level was a little high. They now have a vegetarian menu, which makes my wife very happy.
We are using Bali Hai as our wedding reception venue in two weeks and never tried them for their brunch. It was beautiful (had a window ocean view) and the food was wonderful. Our server was polite and attentive. I would recommend them for any event or dinning experience. Love their food and the location is perfect. Definitely recommend reservations and getting their early.
Our Favorite Place to dine for 30 plus years on Shelter Island.
it was a great experience for a special occasion.
Service was fantastic, and we did not feel rushed, even though the dining room was full. The drunk lady who fell down the stairs and got into her car was dealt with by the Staff in an appropriate manner! Watch out for those Mai Tai's!!
Seriously fun evening in a gorgeous setting in breathtaking San Diego. :-)
Great location with a spectacular view of the city. Service was great and the food was excellent. The $9 MaiTai is so worth it.
We usually enjoy Bali Hai, but we don’t think we will going back any time soon; it was too loud to have a pleasant conversation.
Took my parents there and we enjoyed the view!
I appreciate the professionalism of the manager in seating my party of 4. Our server was excellent and very personable. Loved the good and view.
This is a place to go for the views and the fun cocktails! Don't have high expectations for the food, totally hit or miss.
We celebrated an anniversary and requested outdoors or a nice window view. We were delighted to be led to the best table on the patio where we were in awe of the panoramic view of the bay downtown skyline. Stunning.
The Ali'i Tasting had an odd version of lumpia but all else was delicious. Too bad the poke as it's own app but it is on the happy hour menu. The New York steak was tender and the thin potato slices underneath soaked up its juices and were oh so good. The short rib was delicious, served atop noodles, seasoned with the perfect amount of garlic butter sauce. Only 1 complaint: the steamed broccoli had a lot of yellow florets and one that was bad (took home leftovers). Which is surprising, as one wouldn't know if they're sautéed or sauced.
Our cocktails were very good and we chose their famous Mai Tai for our 2nd round - also our last. It's no wonder they limit you to 2 of them. So look ahead and drink wisely!
Service was great. Our waiter was attentive and assured us with "take your time" - which we much appreciated after just visiting Europe where most are encouraged to do just that. Our only regret is only tipping 20% when the wait team deserved more for providing a wonderful dining experience for us.
Great starter options and the seafood is great. Drinks are also really good, outdoor patio is really comfortable as well.
Really enjoyed but wish they would enforce a dress code. Sitting next to people wearing tshirts for dinner was my only complaint
So disappointing. I've been a SD native for a while and was so exciting to check out this iconic landmark. I was expecting a 'REAL' Polynesian experience and instead, we got a very noisy, banquet-like setting along with banquet-like, mass-produced, overly priced food. the appetizer was good and the drinks were strong but reasonably priced. the main meals were both awful and the server didn't care and kept each $40 plate on the bill even though we each had no more than three bites and ended up stopping for food on our way home. If you are looking for a more authentic setting with good food, don't be fooled into thinking this is it - keep looking.
The Bali Hai has an amazing location; views of San Diego Bay and the downtown skyline, and Coronado bridge. The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant is great! It’s a nice restaurant with a very casual feel so it’s very inviting. The food is so-so, nothing truly spectacular, and the drinks are poured with a VERY heavy hand! I’ve been to the Bali Hai about 10 times so I’ve gotten a good feel for the restaurant. I love the vibe and location, that’s what keeps bringing me back. Food and drinks could use a bit of improvement. Overall a pretty good experience and I enjoy the service each time I eat here
What a beautiful restaurant! The view of the bay and the city was a real treat. The view could only be outshone by the incredible level of service that we received from Marco. Marco was attentive and had great suggestions for food and drink. He was very pleasant to interact with. Marco took us back to pre-Covid days when exceptional service was easier to find. The restaurant view, food and service were all a really pleasant surprise that made our evening special. I would definitely trust Bali Hai and Marco with another special night out.
Excellent flavors, fresh, modern tastes.
Gorgeous harbor views, friendly staff and good quality food at reasonable prices. Definitely going back
Great service and many choices! Loved the Cubana sandwich.
The ambiance was amazing. Breathtaking views and great location. Pork belly stir fry is the dish I will dream about for quite some time. Unfortunately, this is not a good place to take a date that you intend to speak to. The energetic atmosphere prevents you from hearing the person across the table. Our server, Jonathan, was amazing.
Great views of downtown...awesome food and drinks aren't for the weak
Great views. Service staff a bit stretched with the amount of tables occupied, although it was not overly crowded.
Excellent service food was great, be prepared for ginger. We will come back.
I have been to Bali Hai numerous times. This visit the coconut shrimp was not fresh. There were many flies near the glass window. The A/C was only turned on because I told them it was hot. They too cheap to turn it on? Two front hostess were not very hospitable. I would not come back until they get their act back in order.
We love this place and enjoying dinner on the upper deck patio. We especially loved Danny!! Thank you for a wonderful evening of your great service. We will always ask to sit in your section now. Our faves are the spinach lumpia, poke, sticky ribs, Korean fried chicken and the spam fried rice! See you soon!
Bali was recommended by another guest where I was staying at "half Moon."
I LOVED the Mai Tai..and was warned of it's potency! The food was outstanding, and I loved looking out on the water, with boats travelling up and down.
Service was also very attentive and acommodating!
Overall, a great experience.Thanks..
The spread, service, and ambiance exceeded all expectations. Everything was fresh. Drinks came quick. The Mai Tai is a must. Will be back.
I made the reservation for my gf's birthday and was hoping for a nice table. I requested to sit outside or to sit next to the window. They told me that they would try to accomodate the request. They did not. We sat at a table that was 3 tables away from the window, which is one row away from the farthest that you can sit from the windows. Kicker is that when I showed up on time for my reservation, they told me that if I waited a little bit, they'd have a better table for me. I would have prefered that they recommended that I sit at the bar and have a drink while waiting for them to get the right table, but instead they made it sound like they just needed another 2 minutes so we stood and waited.
Other than this, the food was good. Drinks were strong and good. They provided a nice little dessert with a candle which was a thoughtful touch but overall service met expectations without doing anything extra that stood out.
Was hoping for just a little more of that "special" feeling but wound up feeling more like we were just shuffled in.
I'd still go back to Bali Hai. The drinks are great. The food was good. The views are amazing. But I wouldn't want to go for a special occasion.
Both the food and the service were outstanding; several novel dishes were on the menu. The noise level from the bar on a busy Saturday evening around 6:00 PM was loud. Overall an excellent experience.
this is a beautiful long time favorite of mine for any occasion. I am in my 70's and I remember coming here as a kid with my parents. our waiter Jacob was the best.
The view fantastic and the food fabulous.
Everything was fantastic from the views to the service to the food and drinks! I would recommend the Bali Hai to anyone who wants a fun date or a wild night out with friends.
We went for dinner and drinks before a concert at Humphreys, and had a great time! Ordered a Mai Tai, and choked it down, possibly the strongest Mai Tai in my life, and I can drink! We Ordered an appetizer for two, and it was excellent, poki, skewers, and shrimp. I had the ahi seared for the main course, and everybody else got the sides of rice and chicken and chow mein and chicken. I ordered another drink of what I'm not sure, but it was good. Definitely worth a visit in the area, but reservations are recommended
I love this restaurant! The service was brrat - the view was spectacturlar!
View is fabulous, food was very food, service was very slow and non-attentive.
Good, as always. The food was excellent. Great view.
