Our professional and personable server Abby made it a 5 starexperience!
I have been brunching here for years and recently I have become more and more disappointed. The menu choices have shrunk, as have the portion sizes. The scrambled egg with smoked salmon and arugula now has a mere dollop of dry egg atop a mountain of greens....no arugula in sight, only a few ribbons of fried bannock for garnish. And the eggs must be golden to command a price of $22 for eggs Benedict!
Perfect casual Canadian eatery. Food was delicious and the staff exceptional!
I had the pork shoulder tourtierre and my wife chose the turkey burger. Mine was great- very tasty, hot and a good portion with a nice flaky crust. My wife’s burger was huge and very nicely done. Her only complaint was that it was a slightly bland- it needed a bit more flavor, perhaps a sauce or condiment of some sort.
The restaurant was busy, but service was quick and attentive and we were seated promptly on arrival despite just having booked our reservation online less than an hour earlier.
Overall a great experience, great food, and great service. Would certainly recommend!
The service was the problem. Lots of people, and they were very courteous. But, they all seemed disorganized, and we were lost in the shuffle - waited 15 minutes to try to get any orders taken and finally had to go ask the manager (who then bent over backwards for us and became our server). Again, right intentions, but system and assignments needed work. Food was very good.
Food combinations were very intriguing and tasted lovely. Service was pretty good, yet the restaurant needs better ventilation. When you exit the restaurant all of your clothes and hair smell of fried food. It's not very great and takes a while to get out of your clothes.
Food and service were great. I had the chicken pot pie and my husband the pork tourtiere. We thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. My only complaint would be the music was too loud
Terrible attitude by host when we requested lower seats (not high stools) for our small kids and other tables were clearly available. Slow service. Service slow. Food uninteresting. Used to be a great plate. Now mediocre.
Very good “comfort food” served in a pleasant setting. Service was also excellent.
The wait for a table was a bit long - the wait for a server was even longer due to being short staffed on Take your Kid to Work day as we were told. The food is always delicious and the servers always friendly. I think next time, we will come after the lunch rush.
Good food, noisy when crowded. Just don’t go into the ladies bathroom. Gross!
I am always pleased with the food everytime I'm here.
A nice slant in modernizing Canadian comfort foods.
Fab people and food ! We hosted a pretty wedding brunch and the staff was super accommodating and friendly. Thank you for making our experience a great one !
Awesome food, great service and excellent referral of food.
As always the service at Bannock was outstanding!
The food was good just alot of it, not sure if the food hit my stomach weird or I ate too fast but I'm leaning towards I ate too fast because it did upset my stomach. Food was good tho which is why I ate it too fast
We went for a Thanksgiving dinner, but they had run out of turkey and it was very busy, so the service took a while and we had to order something else. However, the quality of food, the good value for money and the kindness and dedication of the staff made all the experience worth it. They also served us a salad and the dessert on them, due to the wait. So in the end and despite the inconvenients, our experience was outstanding!
I ordered the 2 course of turkey dinner.
However, it contained only one slice of turkey. To be honest, I felt a bit disappointed.
Cocktail (Autumn Harvest Sangria) and apple pie were nice.
I didn't know Canada had culture before I went to bannock. And Im Canadian. Lol.
Turkey sandwich was amazing!
Showed up for reservation to be told they ran out of thanksgiving lunch
Bit disappointed with food and service. We had the Prix Fixe Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner. The waitress was so so, and we waited quite a while for our food, then another half hour for our dessert. We finally had to ask a bus boy about the dessert as the restaurant cleared out. Our waitress didn't check but did apologize when she brought the dessert. The turkey tasted a bit odd, but it was well presented. The price was good. $95 for two dinners with dessert and a bottle of wine. The bottle of wine saved us.
I liked the CoBb salad but looking for more greens, mushrooms, bacon etc.
We really enjoyed ourselves, good food. Main complaint is that all 5 of us wanted a ceasar salad but wasn't available as we were told a large group the night before all ordered a ceasar so they ran out. No excuses as they had lots of time to stock up very disappointing.
Good service. A bit of a wait for the table, but we had sufficient time.
Substitute fries for Caesar salad for $3.50 was outrageous when the salad was smaller than an 8 oz coffee cup. I ordered a smoked salmon wrap but they gave me a roast beef sandwich. And the smoked salmon wrap which came later was very salty.
As always the good is delicious and going earlier than usual for dinner (5:00) the noise level was low - great for us ! The server was exceptional - friendly, courteous, professional . I’ve never been disappointed but really, this waiter is terrific.
Keep up all you are doing!
I find over the past few years the menu choices have changed and the food quality as well! The basket of bannock served is shameful. The scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was disappointing as was the cinnamon bun. Mediocre for an Oliver & Bonnacinni restaurant.
It was really good food but service was incredibly slow. They came back to our table twice to inform us different dishes were no longer available and we ended up waiting over an hour for our dishes to begin arriving.
We visited from the USA and was in Niagara Falls and came to Toronto for a day and wanted to eat somewhere and experience Canadian culture. Yelp recommended this place. It was very good. The waitress was very good. The food was amazing.
Bannock offers many options for a variety of tastes and preferences, all providing a taste of Canada. Food taste is usually pretty consistent, and there's a good variety of drink options. Service can sometimes be hit or miss, but usually pretty good. It's a neat place to bring visitors and show them what culinary offerings are available coast to coast.
Good food. Try the Nanaimo Bars for dessert!!
The food was quite good, but the service needs improvement. When I arrived, I had to wait to be seated, as no-one was at the greeting area (I was the only customer). When I was brought to my table, I chatted with my server briefly, who seemed lovely. My husband was running late, and we were going to the show, so I ordered drinks for both of us, as well as an appetizer so that we weren't kept waiting. Appetizers arrived, but no plates were brought with the appetizer. We were only asked after most of it was eaten if we wanted plates. Our meals were brought next. I had the Lentil stew. No spoon was brought for me to eat my stew. I waited for several minutes to see the server again, but she never returned to our table. I saw her once talking with another patron across the restaurant, but still didn't look our way or come by to see how we were doing. I ate my stew with my fork. We were going to order dessert, but after another 20 minutes of waiting for the server to come back, we decided that ordering dessert would make us late for the show. When our server finally came back to our table, we asked for the bill so we wouldn't be late. I thought the food was good, the presentation was lovely, but the service was very poor. We won't go back.
Food was great, it was very nice. Easy to make a reservation.
Really like this place but for the first time, food was disappointing
Good to have dinner and talking with friends
It was great. A kids menu or portion sizes would have made it perfect.
Had the cheeseburger and turkey burgers. Tasty! Taroroot chips!
Best of all, our server was excellent!
There was quite a bit of construction going on outside of the building which did limit the light that could come into the restaurant so, for now, it was a bit dark. The food was very good (I had the Salmon) and the only thing that I would like would be that they have a bit more options for salads and soups. The sandwich and entree options were varied and our table enjoyed them - especially the burger. Overall I can definitely recommend it and will be going back again the next time I'm downtown Toronto.
