    New waitress so we got the appetizer late with the meal. Food was kind of cold. Everything we ordered ended up being really spicy which we didn't expect (I don't recall details of the menu though). Pleasant staff though that took off the price of the appetizer which was nice that they tried to remedy the issue.

    All my friends have raved about the brunch, but when I went for my first time everything took forever...the initial greet, the drink orders, the food, the check, etc. I thought the table next to us was going to just get up and leave they were so mad. Luckily it was a beautiful day and there wasn't much that was going to get us down. We definitely would have spent more money on drinks if they would have been quicker.

    Great waitress and bottomless brunch drinks were amazing. Mix and match brunch drinks, not just mimosas. Waitress kept a positive attitude despite poor mannered table next to us.

    Had the Theatre League fixed price menu...not very healthy but delicious. Fried Green tomatoes, salad, fish and a sinful dessert. Love the ambiance!

    Music too loud this time! Our second time there- last time was a Thursday night and less loud. This time we were squeezed side by side into a corner table. Akward! Food decent. Great spirits flights options...rye, scotch, bourbon. Best part about the place.

    Did not have our table ready, and said they were short staffed and didn't get us seated for a half hour. After that experience was great. Amazing food, great waitress, and delicious drinks!

    Reviewing the menu prior to our visit, I had high hopes. Burgers under cooked. Banana bread pudding wasn't even a pudding and was burnt to a crisp. Most of the staff seemed high. Credit card never returned.

    Reasonable prices, great food and drinks... neither my date or I had a single sliver of food on the plate by the time we were finished... in fact, I thought she might just lick the plate. ;) Good atmosphere, although the smell of raw sewage did creep into the restaurant a few times off the street, since the doors were all open. Overall, it was a very nice experience.

    Great place for drinks - go see Eric behind the bar. Avoid the frustration of eating in the restaurant. Slow service, cold restaurant, and poor management. Eric was making superior drinks behind the bar, but after waiting almost two hours with no entree, we left to find a burger down the street. This was our second trip to Barrel 31. The first time it was not very busy and we experienced good service, good food, and excellent cocktails. On our second visit, the only thing that remained consistent was the fabulous cocktails Eric made for us as we waited for our table. To be fair, it was a busy night. After arriving 10 min early, we were finally seated 30 min after our reservation time. The delay included declining a round table that was less than 5 feet from the door. We didn't want to freeze as there was a steady stream of people walking in and out on a cold night in February. If you make a reservation on a potentially cold night- be sure to ask for a table away from the door! Once at our table, the experience went downhill. We had to keep our coats on - too cold on the main level. Server couldn't get the correct drink order - had to go back to the bar and get our drinks from Eric. Apps took an hour - entrees never arrived. After being at the restaurant for 2 hours, manager apologized and said that our order had only been in for 30 min... While he comped us for the apps - his advice to us was to be more patient... Not sure what went wrong - I hope they can get the service back on track.

    We hadn't been since it was the Velvet Dog. We were pleasantly surprised. We had great food and decent service. The chicken wing nachos (homemade chips) and fried green tomatoes were tasty appetizers. So filling! But we came for restaurant week and had four courses. The Shepard's pie was so good! My husband had the bourbon salmon and loved it. We had the banana bread pudding and citrus beignets for dessert. They were so good. This place is beautiful inside and has a great outside area, too! We will definitely be back.

    Even with our reservation we waited 30 minutes to be seated and were asked to stand at the bar where there were also no open seats. Those first 30 min were spent dodging servers and moving back and forth to stay out of the way. Luckily we had a great server to help pass the time once we were seated. Things cleared out pretty fast once we sat down however it still took over 20 minutes for our food to be delivered after our appetizer was delivered and we were finished eating. As this was not my first time here I can say the food was not as good as I had experienced at previous visits.

    It's always hard to pick which restaurant we are going to try during Restaurant Week. After looking at all the menus, I kept going back to Barrel 31 not just because of the food, but the drink menu. Someone came to take our order quickly, but I was told I couldn't get an Old Fashion because they were out of the ingredients, which is one of the reasons I picked this place... on a Sat. during Restaurant Week... how are you out of those ingredients? Aside from that, the food was mediocre. For example, the fried green tomatoes tasted and appeared to be bought prebreaded, and the nacho chips were stale and bland. Also, after our waitress took our order we never saw her again till she was ready to drop off the check. I'll try the place again, on a less busy day/time of year in hopes things are better.

    My new favorite restaurant! The food was seriously the best food I've had at a restaurant in years. We found this great place during KC Restaurant Week. The atmosphere is great and the servers are very down to earth. It was a great evening. We will most definitely be going back again and again.

    I was unsure what to expect because of mediocre google reviews. We left very satisfied. We did a variety of dinner dishes (burnt end mac and cheese, buffalo wings, salmon salads were great), whiskey pairings, wine and brown-bag beers. Our party of 6 loved our server Valarie. Only complaint was the bar service was very slow... 10 minutes+ on 3 rounds of drinks. Besides that we were impressed, and felt it was a reasonable value. We'll be back again.

    Such a disappointment! We had lunch there in December and it was very good (although the service still was marginal). This time, however, the food was poor and the service was terrible. Our server never got our drink order right, and made other mistakes with our dinner order and our bill.

    If you like burnt chips, cold food, unfilled glasses and throwing money away go here!!!! Do not order chips or burnt ends grilled cheese. The cheese is missing and the sandwich is not worth the effort. We had chips with nachos, fondue and sandwiches and they were all dark in color and went uneaten with no comment from the server or no visit from management. The food was cold and we had no way of telling anyone since the server failed to offer a check back. Restaurant week menu failed to secure returning guests...small portions and cold food. Even the bread pudding was charred. If you order drinks, go for the flights. Highlights Calamari Fries and Pork Rinds...aside from that...waste of time and money!!!! If I saw a manager or were asked how everything was...would have shared this while we were there... Party of 4 won't be back!

    The food was sooo good! We went for restaurant week and it was well worth it! Since we went for lunch, we didn't get to try the whiskey flights but I would love to go back for a night out in Martini Corner to try the flights and venture to the surrounding bars.

    While I will take into consideration that it was Kansas City Restaurant week and they were busier than normal, we had a pretty bad experience. We showed up at 7:15 for a 7:30 reservation. The guy at the door said it would probably be a half hour wait, and we were perfectly fine with that. Once we got seated, we finally got our water at about 8:15 and beers shortly after that. Figured we might need to go ahead and order, so we ordered appetizers and dinner when the beers came. At 9:00 the southwest rolls (which were good) and salad come out. By 9:45 and still no food and the crowd certainly less now (several open tables), we still have no food. We were told a couple of times it would be right out, but didn't show. After noticing multiple tables that sat after us being served, we decided it was time to go....so at 10 we asked for our check. All the staff was very nice, but just couldn't see waiting any longer. After walking in initially, we thought the place looked fun and nice, but doubt seriously we will try it again.

    We reserved a table for 2 on a friday night at 7 and arrived on time. We were still waiting at 7:30 and were not even the next in line, so we decided to leave. During the time we were waiting, we received no updates or apologies from our host. Food looked good, but we will not be back. This is just poor management and service.

    We went on the first night of restaurant and the staff and management were new. They were a little overwhelmed by the turnout, but they did a superb job. The Bourbon Chicken Nachos are large enough for sharing, and the Fried Green Tomatoes are scrumptious. The Salad 31 was a generous serving as well. We enjoyed the Wood Roasted Salmon, and kudos on the Bourbon Glaze. The Banana Bread Pudding was good, but do not expect a traditional bread pudding as this one was more dense, but the vanilla ice cream compensates for that. The Citrus Beignets were tasty, and plenty to share. Great job by Abby on her first night there. One complaint, there were a few fruit flys around during our meal, quite unusual for January. Hopefully they have that taken care of by now

    We dined with friends for lunch this past week during restaurant week. Although Blake was an amazing server, he was stretched thin and overall was not that great of an experience. We never received our appetizer and when we mentioned that, it was brought out with our desserts. We got up ourselves to pour water and went to the bar so that we could order a drink. Not sure we would go back....

    Food was not very good. My cheeseburger was overlooked and very dry. My wife had the fish and chips and the portion was 4 bite size pieces. We also were surprised to find out two things on the menu were no longer offered which the waiter failed to tell us until we ordered. Will not be going back here again.

    My husband and I chose this spot for our date night this month because of its listing as a top KC spot for fondue. The fondue appetizer was marginal ... more like a cheese dip than a true fondue experience. We then ordered the bacon mac n cheese and the beer can chicken. The chicken was ok, but a little overdone. The most disappointing was the ambiance. The site of the former Velvet Dog is now depressingly quiet and tame. We were there at 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday night and shared the patio with just two other parties for the first hour we were there. Two more parties showed up before we left, but it was definitely lacking the old energy. There was no music playing outside and the bar wasn't even open. The bar TVs were tuned to a college football game requested by a larger party on the patio even though the Royals were playing on TV inside the restaurant. The yard games were so loud and disruptive without any background noise, music or general chatter. I'm definitely concerned for this place's future with a very slow crowd considering the beautiful early fall evening. Our server was wonderful and attentive, and not too pushy considering we were having a leisurely meal. Martini Corner lost a real gem :(
