When we arrived for our reservation at 5:30 pm the restaurant was locked and there was, what looked to be a leak, with clean up in progress. No one bothered to call to let us know Baru was closed. The friends I was meeting at Baru had taken ride share, so we walked across the street and went to Browns.
When we showed up for our Valentine's Dinner reservation the restaurant was closed. We received no advance notice.
The restaurant does not exist. Maybe take it off Opentable and not accept reservations.
Fantastic staff and excellent food. It was a great night.
I was pleasantly surprised and impressed.... food was very tasty and filling, presentation was great, and service was friendly and fast!!! Will definitely go back again.
excellent service. Dinner was good - berry crumble was not up to the rest of the dinner
Good food and friendly service. Some interesting artifacts on the wall.
The ambiance is very nice, the drinks and wine menu tasty, but the food was very plain, lacked flavour and was below what we expected for the price. The portion sizes were good.
We tried Baru during Dine out Vancouver. The overall quality was quite disappointing. Food was nothing to write home about. For the money we paid, we expected better quality food and better value. Service was adequate. We won’t be going back.
The short ribs were too salty and the paella type rice didn’t have enough salt. The croquettes were bland/tasteless. Desserts were good but the dulce de leche sauce was too thick so we couldn’t dip the churros in it
I dined at Baru Latino during Vancouver's Dine Out event and found that they scrimped in terms of quality ingredients, I guess to fit within the $45 3 course menu. The first course of mussels was a promising start, but things went downhill after that. The fish/rice dish for the entree was big on rice and stinting on fish/seafood. The dessert was pretty basic--pretty sure it was Costco mixed berries baked with an oatmeal bottom and top. No need to try this restaurant again.
So delicious and always impeccable and friendly service. Baru is terrific!
We have been to Baru several times over the years. Always great service and food, especially Baru's chips and dips
Mussels were amazing. Cerviche was okay. Wife liked flan dessert, i didn't. Service was very good. Not saying it wasn't, but sometimes it was a bit too much. Hard working, I get it, but maybe just a bit too entertaining.
Great night! Enjoyed an evening of small plates.
Service really good, but the food wasn't memorable...the place misses some stable tapas dishes, patatas bravas, manchego cheese, chorizo etc.
Good menu choices. If using 20% Chan Centre discount, prices of happy hour choices and regular menu prices basically the same.
Since new ownership I don't find the food or atmosphere of this restaurant to be nearly as good. It is just very average and this time food was also not great. Servers were good and seemed to genuinely care about diners experience.
An excellent choice of dished and everything was delicious. We shared a salad and I had the veggie quesadillas. Excellent!
Great experience and very good food with a new dining experience.
My birthday dinner with a great friend. Very good service, food good, drinks good, music pretty loud, so conversational volume in the room was loud to match.
Great restaurant , great food , service and atmosphere
Baru has a lovely atmosphere, helpful staff and delicious food. We usually share a couple of the tapas plates there. We tried the short ribs this time and they were superb. For dessert we had the churros with dolce de leche. Just delicious!
A friend had dinner at Baru a month or so ago and had a 'terrible meal and service'. I said I'd give it a chance and glad I did. It was a perfect evening with 2 old friends.
The restaurant is situated in a wonderful neighborhood setting. The paella was delicious. The staff was incredibly kind and went above and beyond what was expected. We will be back!
Service was very friendly and attentive but food was lacklustre.
We had lovely, attentive service, but the food was lackluster
Great food and service, would highly recommend...Went there On Friday night Everything perfect. Such friendly staff🥰
Such a cozy environment, we had a terrific meal. Great Ceviche and an amazing Pisco sour!
Our server was great and helped make it a memorable night! Thank you!
Not good value for the lamb. Very pricey for a few ounces of lamb.
Had the short ribs, ok, but would not have again.
Will try again, maybe we ordered the wrong plates.
One of our favourite spots in the city!
Unfortunately, either the chef, the management, or the owner has changed (or all of them), and the food is no longer acceptable. Yes, I mean what I say, no taste, cheap ingredients, absolutely disappointing. I hope that this is not another place where the ownership changed and only the name and decor is kept. The service was ok, but nothing special. We used to love this place, but won't go there anymore. It is a ripp off now.
Staff are outstanding. Service was prompt, drinks were delicious. Ceviche was fantastic but the pork a bit dry. Love this restaurant and we now know it does a great happy hour!
Excellent food and usually service much better but they seemed to be understaffed and so it took a long time to even receive a menu or a drink but this isn't usual.
Warm friendly atmosphere with appropriate level of latin music to make for a lively mood and still permit serious or not so serious conversation. Service was warm and friendly. Although its latin food it has a local feel. Comfortable, affordable, enjoyable...
I love this place - one of the best and friendliest in the neighbourhood. We had a series of small plates - all delicious, although some seemed a little pricey compared to my last visit. Our server was absolutely terrific - attentive and a great personality.
Fantastic food and service but a bit overpriced for shared plates. Would expect food to be $25-30/pp but it ended up $45-50/pp
Great restaurant and authentic latin food. It made us miss home.
We are coming back for sure again actually very soon. 10/10
Excellent service and food. It was.a Monday night so understandably quiet.
