This was our 3rd time to Bauhaus, but our first after the change in the culinary leadership team. We were big fans of the previous version of Bauhaus. The “tasting menus” are weirdly set up, where you can pick anywhere from 3-6 courses. You pick your appetizers, intermediate dish/es, main, and dessert from the main menu. All the dishes are a standard size. We were told they were all supposed to be tasting sizes, but a few of the dishes are actual full-size meals - which works out to too much food. My personal opinion is this would work a lot better with smaller servings.
The mussel appetizer was overly salted. But everything else was ok, just too big.
Overall though, the food while good, no longer holds any special pull for us to keep coming back.
This is our second time at the restaurant. Our first time we rated the experience much higher. We enjoyed the food however the very nicely presented pumpkin risotto could have been a lot warmer. I was fortunate to get one of the last sauerbratens available and it was good. The accompanying red cabbage was delicious. I would have liked a couple more dumplings. The food came so fast that we had not even had time to enjoy the bread and butter. We felt rushed.
George our waiter was fantastic! We sat in the back by the wine cellar at a wonderful table. My husband and I got three courses w/ pairings. Incredible. Can’t wait to come back and try more food! Thank you for making my birthday so great!

Really delicious food and a beautiful restaurant! The staff was friendly and helpful. It was very quiet which was great for conversation. It's fairly expensive, but al in all it was worth it.
there are only 2 tables there，but service is just so so. Dishes come really really slow. Also we found a rat on the ground near the sofa.
The food was absolutely spectacular, we can't wait to go back. The service was outstanding and I particularly enjoyed the Zeitgeist mystery cocktail option on the menu!! Thanks Bauhaus staff for a lovely dining experience.

Love Bauhaus. Love the seasonal menu. Love how friendly and knowledgeable the servers on. I always know I'm going to have a good time, and price wise it's actually very reasonable for the quality of food and service you receive.
Food was good but not amazing. Sometimes it tried too hard to sound fancy without delivering. For example the tartare is listed with truffles on top...but once I asked I was told that they are Vancouver regional truffles (not italian or french)..... and they really don't taste anything at all on top of the tartare. If I didn't read it I would have never known. When in writing the presence of truffles always looks fancy but what's the point if you don't taste them?
Overall the appetizers were better than the mains. The tartare was good, the beet soup was good, the mussels were good. The wild boar rack was overcooked and tough, with no real condiment almost like a dry pork chop.
Overall a good solid restaurant, trying to be innovative but not Michelin-star level for sure.

This used to be our favourite restaurant for Wiener Schnitzel. Unfortunately they changed the recipe. Their schnitzel used to be pounded paper thin with a crispy puffed up bread crumb coating – actually more similar to the traditional Czech schnitzel – something I cannot make. But this time, the schnitzel was 5 times thicker, and the bread crumb coating was soggy. The veal was not tender because of the thickness. I can make a schnitzel better than that. We were very disappointed.
Winter menu is insane.im going back next week!

I actually really like Bauhaus. I have been a number of times, and think the food is outstanding. This is the second time I have dined there that the service has been really poor. I'm not sure if it was our server's first time working at Bauhuas, or perhaps as a server at all? He was nervous, tense, he mumbled, he couldn't understand what we were saying. I ordered al la carte, and not off the tasting menu, which seemed to cause him great confusion. I asked to see a wine list, and then he proceeded to ask me a number of questions regarding my taste in wine. I ordered a wine through him, but only because he wouldn't stop asking questions. A simple do you want my advice? would have been a better way to approach it. I really just wanted to look at the list. Then after building zero rapport with us whatsoever, at the end of the meal he rambled on about where he was from in Ontario. So really just poor ability to read his audience or serve them at a level befitting of a restaurant that has top honours, and not cheap prices. Maybe it would be better to go and sit at the bar?
Amazing house made limoncello- best since Italy! Meal was excellent, and serve and chef were very attentive and accommodating of my dairy restriction. It would be my go to favourite if I didn't live on the other side of the continent. Highly recommend the beef tartare and chateaubriand.
This was our first time at this restaurant and I was expecting a superior dining experience. However service was so slow, we had to wait really long time for our drinks. To top it off the bartender didn’t know how to make my drink which was a non-alcoholic beverage... We were sitting pretty close to the bar and saw several drink orders that came after ours go first. The solo bartender was frustrated looking up how to make my drink in a book... ahh maybe they should have more bartenders.
the poor waiter tried really hard, he was really nice explained things well but what’s he’s to do when the kitchen and bartender are so slow... our first of 4 course meal came so late, the waiter brought us a little snack from the kitchen on the house of course... drinks on the house of course... an old fashioned drink was served with smoke that was pretty cool... so to sum it up for 300 dollar meal... we got all our drinks for free... Nobody asked me if I wanted another drink, I guess because the bartender couldn’t keep up... water wasn’t topped up for an hour...
The waiter did apologize multiple times... the food was really good... but waiting awfully long for your drinks and food kind of kills your appetite.
As one of the Top 100 Best Canadian Restaurants, it was so bad. We were soooo disappointed. We got there @7:15pm. Didn’t have anything to eat by 8:15pm. No ones serves water either~ Hardly find server! Very bad experience. Wont suggest any friend to go there.
Food was great except for the duck (main dish). The layer of fat on the duck meat was too big, and the vegetables were nicely arranged but very bland (especially the pumpkin).

The atmosphere was effected because the lights kept raising and lowering, which was a big distracting, but nonetheless it was all delightful!
Shared the six course tasting menu and wine pairings with my husband and loved every bite! Unfortunately, the timing was a little off and we waited quite awhile between courses. We sat down at 7:40 and didn’t finish until 11! Wine pairings were perfect and food was fantastic, service was good, just slow.
We were looking forward to the 5 course set menu but unfortunately were disappointed with all but two dishes. We tried pretty much the entire menu. The raw duck was extremely chewy and tough, and the roast beef sour and the texture of its bread dumpling unappetizing.
Although I noted on the reservation that this was for a "birthday celebration", there was no acknowledgement of this from the service staff, which would have been a nice touch for celebrating my mother's 75th birthday. Despite "limited" food choices, the food was magnificent and beautifully prepared. My "Maple Old Fashioned" cocktail was contained in a smoke-filled glass chamber, which added to the presentation. As an aside, owner Uwe Boll, came by our table to introduce himself and we had a delightful conversation.
Edible art: Beautiful showcase of local Canadian delicacies. I’m not normally one to order beef tartare, but I was sold on the mustard seed and truffles. I was not disappointed- and the generous truffles slices were delicious! The wine pairing was excellent as well.
It took more than two hours for a four course meal. Waiting time in between meals were way too long.

Phenomenal. The food is to die for. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is attentive.
Went for my birthday and there was nothing special. I was expecting something like candle on dessert or something that would make the dinner experience more special for the birthday family dinner. Tasting menu was served in odd time frame, had to starve between each dish. I was little sad because I chose one of my favourite restaurant in Vancouver. Maybe it was that day only? Not sure. Disappointed but will go back again, expecting better next time.
Came here with my husband for our 2 year anniversary. Such an amazing dinner, beautiful ingredients and incredibly thoughtful combinations , and plating. It was the perfect way to celebrate.

Fabulous dining and overall good value. It was a bit more rugged ambiance and louder than anticipated, but everything else was great.
We were here for a birthday celebration. They were sweet enough to prepare a birthday card with custom birthday wish from their team. Also, they provided a complimentary dessert drink with our dessert. The dishes were wonderful and well proportioned. Every thing was tasty. Would definitely come back again. Very thankful
Aufgrund der Bewertungen im Internet sollte der Besuch im Bauhaus der krönende Abschluss unserer Canadareise sein. Der Sevice war sehr freundlich und bemühte sich. Die Vorspeisen waren auch interssant und überraschten durch frische Aromen. Beim Hauptgericht, sowohl Fisch als auch Rindfleisch vermissten wir jegliche Kreativität und auch die Qualität war nicht so, wie wir es für ein Restaurant dieser Kategorie erwartet haben. Schade, aber wirklich nur ein mittleres OK.
Best Wienerschnitzel in town.
The waiter forget parts of our order and then still tried to charge us for the fixed menu price... tried to not show us the bill prior to us paying so that we wouldn’t see. When we brought it up he acted as though we were difficult and cheap when actually we had bought several cocktails, two bottles of wine $100 each etc. When he sent over the manager the resolution was to charge us a la carte and therefore we would save $9 but the point was there was no resolution for the behaviour of trying to charge us without discussion on his error. It left a poor taste in my mouth when prior to that I thought I had found another restaurant to add to my rotation when fine dining.
Bauhaus offers a modern industrial look and modern cuisine. Good ambiance and located in vibrant Gastown. The owner checks in with each table to see if customers like the dinner experience.
