Fantastic meal from start to finish. We enjoyed every bite! The food and presentation were truly outstanding.
Unfortunately, the service was quite slow and we were often left waiting for our water and wine which was disappointing given the quality of the meal. Our server was charming and apologetic for the absence of support staff and we will give it another try.
I originally visited Bauhaus just after they opened, and had a far better experience. This time I visited with one of our premium clients, and it was very disappointing.
The service, from the moment we entered, was distant and mechanical. The menu choices are extremely limited. Flavours were less than we would expect for the stature and reputation. Bland comes to mind.
In general it was a very uninspiring evening. The odd thing is that my first visit was entirely opposite. And that was during opening jitters.
I would not return, and I can certainly recommend of a number of local dining establishments that are far superior in every respect.
We were there for a 4 course menu. Most of the food was great, with few misses, which were mostly failed combination of ingredients. One woke in the selection was just not up to par and would need at least 4 more years to develop. Overall a very good experience. Recommended. The final note: wiener schnitzel is not German, it is Austrian! But it was good ( although a little thick).
I have been there last year and this time with the new fixed menu I have got surprised. Now you can just choose from 3 to 5 courses menu with very limited options on each course. Although still the food is phenomenal!
Service was just OK and from my point of view such like this fine dinning restaurant you expect more than ordinary ones.
The Mackerel Ceviche with Passionfruit was possibly the single best dish I've ever eaten. Exquisite. Other dishes were also very good, though not of the same level as the ceviche. Restaurant is very modern and chic but lacks some ambience -- it certainly can't be compared to a cosy, romantic French restaurant. Food and service are excellent though.
Overall, we had a great experience at Bauhaus. I have experienced several fine dining restaurants in Vancouver and although the experience was good, I found the food to be 4/5 as opposed to the expected 5/5, especially for what the price is.
We did a 5 course tasting menu. Our favourite meals were the Tenderloin (perfect cook and so tasty) and the mackerel ceviche. I found the cucumber soup to be quite bland and the duck confit to not have as much flavor as I would've expected for a duck confit. The dessert was awesome as well. Overall, I'd definitely go back but would go to a few other places before returning here.
This has to be the best restaurant in Vancouver. Deserving of Michelin stars. Every time we are here, we are alway pleasant surprise by new menu items with fantastic wine pairing. It is alway a whimsical gastronomic adventure with each visit to Bauhaus.
Food was great .,for a high end restaurant we did not get the wine decanted and the food was very good but a bit too pricey compared to other similar restaurants .
Wonderful menue and professional staff. Would definitely come back when in town
It‘s quite pricey for what you get... The starter was really weird, but the main and desert were fine. But like I said - pretty overpriced.
Keep the fire burning ! The best experience we did while our vacation in the US and Canada this year
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was alright. However, the serving took so long (2.5 hours) and the portion size was definitely not worth the price. good food though.
The Bauhaus exceeded our expectations. We had a true dining experience of the highest caliber. Thanks to Chef Chris and his staff.
Lovely place for special occasions. We had a lovely host- very attentive and provided professional service. We had the 4 course meal and the chicken schnitzel to share. Food was of high standard. Love the sorbet!
Sorry to say we had a very uneven experience at Bauhaus. We went on a Sunday evening, so perhaps the kitchen was understaffed. It took a hour and a quarter for us to reach the second course of our four-course meal despite the fact that only a fraction of the tables were occupied. One soup was so highly spiced that we found it inedible. My cod entree was significantly oversalted. These missteps overshadowed the better aspects of the meal, which included the Quark ravioli, Wienerschnitzel, and spatzel. During our visit to Vancouver we dined at multiple highly rated restaurants. Bauhaus had the highest price tag, but ultimately provided the least satisfying food experience.
My wife and I shared the 6 course set menu and were ridiculously satisfied with the cuisine. The food was out standing, in particular the chilled cucumber soup. The waiter that we had was very nice, courteous, and provided excellent customer service. The wait staff was also very polite and were quick to act. We were also celebrating our 1 year anniversary and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of care and appreciation the restaurant had. They provided a hand written card to congratulate us, they gave us 2 desserts and a 2 glasses of champagne for us on the house. I have already recommended Bauhaus to many of our friends. I would highly recommend going there again.
Food and service was excellent. We had a very nice time.
Absolutely indulge in the wine pairing with your meal. It really does enhance the experience.
It was an anniversary celebration
The server was very attentive and good knowledge of food
Food was excellent and very tasty .
The menue was delighious. The food was fresh and food Style was very nice
Good food and service.
We had an early dinner at 5:30 . Service and food was very good. I thought good value .
Don’t know where to start except the food was poor. The service was poor and it was really noisy. I’ve have eaten all over the world and have been to 1 2 and 3 Michelin star places. This place came highly recommended and I was highly disappointed.
The food was very good. I had the Mackerel ceviche to start, and the only downside was that it only came with one crisp so at least half was eaten without any crunch. The main and dessert were both very tasty. My main complaint is that the service was EXTREMELY slow. I check the time when I was finally served my first drink and it was a full 30 minutes after I entered the restaurant. At no point in time did I ask for more time to decide either, it was just that slow. Not a good place to go for special occasions, I noted it was my birthday on the reservation but they didn't acknowledge it on any level, not even just the server saying Happy Birthday. My friend ordered a green salad, it didn't say what the dressing it came with was and it turned out to be a strong horseradish based dressing so she asked for another salad with different dressing and on the side; it came back with a new dressing but not on the side. There is no salt or pepper on the table nor do they come over and offer it to you. I would have liked pepper on my steak but no one came over to ask. Overall I would say go for the food but don't expect good service.
Bauhaus has been a favourite for a long time but recently underwent a head chef change and now the menu is all preset dining options and no a la carte. There are 4 preset options with the basic option being a starter, main course and desert - you are still able to choose which starter, and main you would like to order from the options provided. I would prefer being able to order a la carte and not bound in to a set menu and hope this is something that will change in the best future. Food quality was still spot on from previous but just find the set menus are to many courses for your everyday dinner.
Sad. This was one of my favorite restaurants in town and it seems to be in a bit of a death spiral. Biggest issue was super slow food. We sat down at 7pm and didn’t get our entres until 945pm. They have switched the menu to only tasting, not a great sign, and it seemed like they were keeping us in our seats to keep the restaurant occupied. Only half full on a Friday night. Food is still good but I don’t like the tasting menu only, especially if a 4 course meal takes 3 hours to deliver. Wouldn’t go back :(
We did not order two sets of the menu as it is suggested because it would be too much, so insead we did one set + additional one main course to share. Before we ordered, our server was extremely friendly and attentive. But after we ordered what we wanted the server suggested us not to do so as the dishes would not be enough (which turn out to be more than enough). Then the server took our order and you can immediately see his attitude changed (because we did not order two sets of menu plus no alcohol). After that, we did not even get the bread which the tables next to ours all got. Server did not even come back until bill time while he was checking the next tables a few times. When it is bill time he did not ask how the food was or anything, just simply processed the payment and when I said “i don’t need to receipt thank you” he replied, “it’s going to print out anyway” and left the recipt on the table. Overall the food did not surprise me too much because the taste wasn’t top notch for the price that you are paying. But we definitely expected more from the service. I have never been to a fine dining with service like this and will not recommend the restaurant to my friends.
Professional and friendly, creative and delicious. This was one of the best dinner experiences ever thanks to the Bauhaus team. Perfect in every way.
Everything was outstanding!!!
Waiter forgot my meal order, then forgot my desert order, then tried to charge too much on my bill.
Overall, the food is not fulfilling. I ordered German ham and got s skimpy dish with rolled up sandwich meat.
Service was absolutely terrible. We ordered the 4 course tasting menu but the waiters were either disorganized or far too busy. We waited up to an hour between courses and at one point didn’t receive a course at all u TIL we brought it up. We had a friend not order the menu and his pacing was even more off. We didn’t receive the bread we ordered and were constantly badgered about whether we wanted more sparkling water (no, we just wanted our food). The portion size for the 4 course menu was quite small, particularly at that price point. The food itself was quite good and the room is beautiful. But the experience suffered greatly because of pacing and poorly set expectations
Bauhaus is a dining experience. Starting with the cocktails - unique flavors and combinations.
Nothing traditional. A grand way to start the experience. The menu was varied but surprising. You ordered schnitzel but it's different and the side of cranberry was an unexpected pairing! Or stuffed celery with the fish was a pleasant surprise. Their desserts were a wonderful way to end an elevated food experience. It's not cheap but you are guaranteed to have good food and a dining experience. I will be back. Brenda K.
Exceptional menu. Outstanding service. Perfect venue for a birthday celebration. Thank you for making it a memorable evening.
Excellent food and service as always!
Nice building ! Funky with great food !
The four course chef’s choice was amazing! Service was attentive and appropriate. My only complaint is, “ just my opinion” but the “ music” aka “ noise” was loud, fast and disturbing. It deteriorated the ambiance.
We found the room pleasant, although hard to visit in due to the loud ambient noise in the room. That said, the overall ambience was energetic and enjoyable to dine in. I imagine the room works better when the sun has come down. The service was also good and pleasant a definite plus to the evening. Sadly though the food was a major disappointment! The Wiener schnitzel was ordinary at best and not hot. Nor was the asparagus soup warm which made what may have been a fine soup into a mediocre one. Our guests weren’t specific but also didn’t find their meals as enjoyable as we all hoped they would be.
We consider Bauhaus a missed opportunity. It’s aim is to provide Vancouver a fine German dining experience and instead it provides German food that is far from fine even if the service was that of a fine restaurant.
We had the chef’s tasting menu with wine pairing. Wonderful meal.
We came for a family dinner and everything was excellent. I look forward to another visit soon.
