We enjoyed the 3-course tasting menu- excellent value! We started with oysters on the half-shell, which came wih is a delicious in-house made hot sauce. The breads were also very fresh and were nice to snack on with the oysters. Highlights were the Prawn salad and Ling Cod / Duck Confit mains.
Bishops offers excellent execution of favourite dishes, with excellent service. The menu is simple and effective, however not creative new foods and interpretations. Well worth returning.'
Bishops was great, as always. A longtime friend and I have dinner about once a year, and this was a great place to have this year's dinner. We both had tenderloin; I had the scallop appetizer. Portions are not large, but they're exquisite, and everything was superb; as it always is.
Bishops is a small restaurant in an old house, and deserves its reputation as one of Vancouver's best.
The wine list goes back to the 40's; bring your best charge card.
Bishop's has been a Vancouver fine dining gem for years and for good reason. The food is exceptional and the service simply amazing. It represents what traditional fine dining should be, not the noisy establishments that seem to be popular today. Simple elegance, amazing food, brilliant service - all very good reasons why this remains one of the best places in Vancouver to dine.
We have been going to Bishops for at least 30 years. It has never failed. We have had the odd occasion where it was not up to par but we keep going back and the dinner the other night was wonderful.
Great service with very polite staffs! Food is scrumptious! Highly recommended! Only drawback is tables r bit crowded.
Very romantic place to take a beautiful lady to impress her.
Food is great
Well worth for value!
Our favourite place to go.
bishop's was hands down one of the best dinners my husband and I have had. my appetizer was the scallops and main was the sea bass and it was the best! my husband said his main course was the best duck he had ever had. amazing service and John bishop actually makes his waythi every table! highly recommend it!
Absolutely one of the best meals I have ever had. Brought tears to my eyes!
Decided to try this restaurant based on the positive reviews read. The option of a set 3 course meal was an attractive idea to help with deciding on the dinner items as each appetizer, main and dessert were very tempting.
The food was indeed prepared and set very creatively, and each bite was delicious. My only comments would be that the portions for each item was a bit on the small side, and my simple request to have the food bill sent to me at the end of the meal so that I can treat my guests, resulted in the food bill being dropped on the other end of the table away from me instead.
We hadn’t been back for years as it dropped off our radar. The three course menu for $55.- is terrific value. All three courses were “right sized”. We didn’t desire more food, we weren’t stuffed...it was just right. The pan roasted sea bass was flavourful and cooked perfectly. My ahi tune carpaccio was outsanding and the light sweet popped corn caramel was a fun spin on the classic crême caramel. Wine prices are reasonable as are cocktails. All servers were knowledgable, friendly and attentive. The sommelier was tops...he knew his wines! It was busy for a Tuesday night so make a reservation!
Arguably the best experience in Vancouver.
We always love to come back to Bishop’s. The staff are so helpful and local foods so tastefully prepared. There’s just no comparison. Mr Bishop came round to chat 3 times. Our whole family enjoy dooming from his books. Can’t wait to buy his next one. Bravo!
Great service good food
One of the very few places in town where you get exquisite food and attentive, unpretentious service in a busy setting with a wonderful vibe, but which is still quiet enough to have an intimate conversation at your table. Vancouver has so many wonderful restaurants but this is still our favourite spot.
El servicio y la comida excelentes. Una gran atención, se adaptaron sin ningún problema a mis alergias y siempre con una sonrisa
Great experience: service personalized, great balanced of flavours on the plate. Cooking of the beef and lamb was perfect. Couscous was so good: we would have take more ;-) We liked the 3 course concept.
I loved the simplicity of the menu...3 courses with ~3-5 choices for each. Excellent combinations on every dish. And the service was extremely attentive.
My wife and I came to Bishop's for an early dinner before the theatre. Our experience began with warm welcomes from the staff, our sommelier was well read, incredibly entertaining and informative. We chose a bottle of St.Emillion (France) and had Foie Gras and Scallops as an appetizer - both were immaculately prepared, beautifully presented and completely delectable. Our entrees were the Pan Roaster Sea Bass and the Beef Tenderloin. As before, the entrees were the definition of perfection. The sea bass was served with bacon mashed potatoes, crispy shallots and an incredible sauce that defies description! The beef tenderloin was served with incredible mashed potatoes, a roasted carrot (I wish there were a few of these - they were spectacular) and beef jus.
The pace of service was on point, we never felt rushed yet the staff seemed to be there just at the right time. When I booked the reservation I asked if my wife and I could be sat next to each other instead of across a table, we were seated at a banquette which allowed us the intimate seating we prefer yet gave us the space to sit, holding hands and chat directly. Perfect.
An overall wonderful dining experience. Friendly and professional service and delicious food.
Delicious food with unpretentious, generous service!
Had a really lovely dinner here, fixed price 3 course dinner for $75 (excluding tax & gratuity). Also had a lovely glass of Bordeaux. The portion is just right and the quality is good. I had the scallops for starter, the lamb for main, and a fantastic special summer tart with ice-cream. John came by to speak with each table and it was a delight to meet him. Ambience is cosy and romantic.
Great service, food, and ambiance
It was for my husband birthday dinner. Everyone enjoyed their dish. The service was outstanding. Very attentive and Kind. The portion was good but I gave 4 starts on the value because I wish I could get more dishes for the price maybe with less portion on each dish?
Delicious food, amazing service and good atmosphere.
One of the best dinners we have had ever in combination with the food, service, knowledge of wine and ambiance. A must do for anyone in Vancouver and for all visitors. Thank you Mr. Bishop for your attention to us!
Wonderful. A gem in Vancouver. With John Bishop still at the door greeting guests!
Bishop's is consistently fabulous. The food was fantastic. There is a set menu with lots of options however, very little for vegetarians. Knowing the restuarant though, if we had wanted a vegetarian main course we would just have had to ask and something fabulous would have been custom made. It's also nice to find a restaurant that serves organic meat. You'd be hard pressed to find service like this. John Bishop meets everyone at every table and talks to them as though they are friends. They are very attentive. At one stage I sneezed, and within seconds tissues were delivered to my table! Our overseas guests that we took with us could not praise the experience highly enough. Highly recommended.
My brother was there about a month earlier and highly recommended it. We went there and was very happy with the experience, food, service was excellent and we come from New York area with great restaurants. A gem of a place been there for many years.
Bishop’s is our favorite restaurant to visit in Vancouver. The food, service and ambiance are above and beyond. If you haven’t been, you must go!
Terrific meal - appetizers were perfect - scallops and foie gras, mains were a real treat - lamb loin and venison, and nicely finished with desert
Wine list was good and we picked something affordable and it was very good. Attentive and very helpful service made this a great meal
As usual, we had a wonderful meal. The food never disappoints - so fresh and seasonal! The service was perfect - very attentive without being intrusive.
The wine list could be a bit broader in the affordable range.
Overall, we have always enjoyed a special dinner at Bishops.
We visit the area every few years. Dining here is always a treat. We visit from Denver.
The service was top notch. Four our first course my wife got a blue cheese & pear salad which was excellent and I got the soup of the moment which was cauliflower. It was decadent, rich and flavorful. For our entrees we choose the Duck (which was cooked to perfection) and the Venison both were superb. For desert I got death by chocolate & my wife got the Strawberry & Rhubarb crumble which was out of this world!
Fantastic food and service! We went for our anniversary, and talking about it afterwards we had a hard time ever remembering getting the quality of service we had here. The food was as outstanding as the service!
Definitely one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Vancouver, or even in Canada. The staff was attentive, assured, friendly, and knowledgeable. I loved that they did not hover, but simultaneously brought so many special touches to our anniversary dinner. We will certainly be returning!
Simply one of the best.
Bishop's consistently lives up to its reputation for creative, highest quality gastronomic cuisine. Each visit is a culinary adventure of the highest standard. Waited on by at least 3 staff, it was a memorable night. Thanks for helping us keep our anniversary tradition and 10 years of great memories.
My wife and i have been coming to Bishop's once a year or so for special occasions for a very long time. It's our go-to place when we want to celebrate together. The staff are warm and highly professional, the food is outstanding and John Bishop is the consummate, erudite host, always helping us feel important and valued. He demonstrates a genuine ability to engage in thoughtful conversation and never makes us feel rushed as is the case in some many other dining establishments -- including high-end ones. We began going to Bishop's when we had little money and at the time he was gracious enough to never judge when we chose one of his less expensive wine offerings. We appreciate how he and the staff have always made us feel welcome with great food and service.
