Fantastic food and brilliant drinks! Perfection. Scott, our waiter was friendly on point and a pleasure to work with.
Lovely restaurant. We were seated along the railing and found the aisle was a little too narrow thus passerbys were to close to us as we dined.
Great bartender, waiter, staff in general.
Very tidy restrooms! Kudos for using linen for hand towels!!
Will most certainly return!
It is the best steak house that I had ever been. I worth my time and money.
Everything was perfect. A true fine dining experience. Our server, Tenielle was particularly excellent!
Our server, Scott, was fantastic! Excellent suggestions! We had a great time and great food!
Marcell was an amazing service! Definitely made my night and for a truly memorable experience! Best service in Vancouver
Went to Black & Blue for a friend’s birthday. We had an awesome time there. The staff were super friendly, our server Senna was amazing. The food was so delicious. We can’t say enough good things about this restaurant
FABULOUS!!! The Roof is amazing. Food is great and TINA (server) perfect!! This is a must visit if you’re in Vancouver. Highly recommend the fresh pea salad and Brussel sprouts. The kabobs are amazing and cocktails (black and blueberry) outstanding. Ambience (fire and heat) on the roof deck is really special.
Went to Black and Blue for Happy hour to have a buck a shuck! Great deal! Oysters were fresh and shucked well! Must of had a new bartender, cuz the drinks were better than we remember it to be! Lots of variety on the happy hour menu! But if you are gonna do the mac and cheese sticks I think I preferred the reg menu ones.... it works out to be same price if not slightly cheaper. But the service topped it all!! Awesome service by all!
We went to black and blue because we hadn’t been before, and I wanted to surprise my husband for his birthday. We were runnning 5 mins late due on police incident on the road, we called ahead and notified that we would be 5 mins late from our reservation. We arrived and were seated at the bar and the hostess said she would grab us if our table became available and stated it would be 15-20mins.. we waited 40 mins for our table. Which was fine because we were late by 5 mins..
We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 main,2 sides. Our salads came, We ate them. Our main came we also ate that. Our sides never came. We got a random side of something that we couldn’t quite tell, as it was the incorrect dish. Our server was quite apologetic and stated he put our order in again.. fast forward 45 mins from receiving our main dish, still no sides.. then the manager came to us, offered us a comp’d dessert platter that would be brought right away, but didn’t mention that we still wouldn’t receive our sides. The manager then mentioned that this does not happen and is a rare occurrence, yet again, our complementary dessert platter also took 30 minutes to come out. The manager didn’t come out and apologize; our sever mentioned that our platter should have come out much sooner. We tried not to let it ruin our experience but I honestly don’t think we will be going back. The server tried to make amends by comping our appetizers, the sides that we didn’t receive, and the dessert platter that we also got quite late. We tipped our server the 20% we would have, if it had been a great experience or not, but honestly for the amount of ppl that work there, it was quite embarrassing that we spent 7:25 -10:30 sitting at black and blue, not even just hanging out, but waiting to receive our meal.
The evening was everything I was hoping for : it was my son’s 21st birthday and they surprised us with free dessert as well. Derek took his time with us and was very attentative and friendly. Would definitely go again. =)
We had reservations for 5 pm and asked for booth. We were denied a booth, as the hostess explained the booths were for 4 people. As we sat at a table next to all the booths, we watched as within 10 minutes they sat another couple at a booth. Over the course of the evening, we disappointingly watched several other couples being sat at a booth one after another. We just wanted to share how we were treated by Black & Blue.
the service was very poor, we never had a waitress, it was always different waitresses, the first round of drinks were not good, we usually like the calamaris, they were badly cooked, I chose there because it was a special day, my wife's birthday and it was not very satisfying
Great food, great service. Will definitely come back again!
It took 45 minutes to get my glass of wine. They never came back to see if I wanted another. The meal itself took forever to arrive and they restaurant was fairly empty. I would not dine again when visiting the area.
The steaks here are outstanding! Mine was so delicious I had to close my eyes to savor it at every bite. It's a bit of a splurge, but worth it. The staff are very attentive. They brought us a free appetizer because the server started to bring us the food meant for the table behind us -- no big deal, right? I certainly didn't expect a freebie for it. The cocktails are also excellent. I loved the Black & Blueberry martini.
The food was superb! And the servers are fantastic! Highly recommend the made at fableside cease salad! I had NY strip... cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Waitress told us the meats are from local farms.... this is a big plus for steak lovers! It’s a bit loud that’s the one down side.
Our server was phenomenal! Sadly I cant remember his name.
Ordered the large share platter and food came out w some on platter, prawns w potatoes on separate plate as was Cesar salad. Presentation per plate was good, but usually this all comes out on one platter and looks full and impressive. We ordered platters to elongate multiple plates on table so presentation this time was a total miss.
Girl servicing us was great when she was there but left us for more than 20 mins and we had 2 requests mid meal and had to stop a bus boy to grab horseradish and we had to give our son our water bc glasses were not refilled.
Food this time was a little disappointing too. Steak and veggies only had a Char flavour. Tasted very plain and then in complete contrast the last two times the briussles are waaaaay over salted (and I love salty). Portion size was good and salad was good.
Sorry to not provide a great review this time. We frequent this restaurant mostly for ambiance. We seldom find the service top notch. There is lots of room for improvement.
Excellent experience - used the $90 promo for seafood platter and surf & turf. Would do it again !!
Over all excellent.
Food was great. Our server was fantastic and attentive.
I was very impressed with Black and Blue! My steak was absolutely perfect and well worth the price. We will be back for sure!
Excellent food and service
This was by far the best reastaurant I have ever eaten at. I came here with my gf to celebrate our anniversary. The ambience, service and food is absolutely amazing! Our server even brought us complimentary glasses of champagne. You must eat here!
Amazing service, incredible food. Rooftop patio was especially nice.
Executive chef visible on the floor and genuinely care about the dining experience.
My new favourite restaurant in Vancouver.
Great! Loved the ribeye and scallops. All the sides were amazing!
We made the impromptu decision to pop in for a late dinner, after a very special excursion nearby on our anniversary. So, this was a special occasion.
It wasn’t overly crowded, neither was it noisy.
Service was impeccable.
We ordered the Caesar salad (made fresh right at your table and was sooooooo good!)
Wine selection is fantastic (though it would be nice if they list the price for the 8oz rather than just the 5oz).
Steaks are met in your mouth perfection, especially if you are courageous enough to trust the doneness to be whatever the chef feels is suitable.
Brussel sprouts ordered for the table - OMG, what a delight!
We shared the ganache torte for dessert, paired with tawny port. Highly recommended!
It was an overall pleasant experience, that lacked the pretentiousness of staff we’ve come to see in most Vancouver restaurants. We’ll choose B&B over any other steakhouse, anytime.
Great food and service. We had three children, there weren’t that many in the restaurants but the waiter made us feel very relaxed. Great restaurant, service and food, it’s expensive, but value for money. Great steak and sides l, will def go back.
So I agree with the other reviews, the service is the problem. Its really not worth the frustration or money.
1.) Introduce yourself and let us know you are our waiter. Maybe even ask us for a drink order in the first 20 minutes, or just stop by and say Hello.
2.) If we order something, don't go and explain that we should change our order to your $175 bone in steak when what we asked for were fillets.
3.) If you are going to prepare a tableside ceasar salad, do it tableside or maybe ask us if we would like any changes(like no croutons just in case one of us is gluten intolerant). Maybe serve it on a chilled plate (just saying because you tried to serve us a $175 steak, so you must know you serve ceasar salad, especially tableside with at least a chilled plate). Oh yeah ask us if we want pepper with our salad too.
4.) Don't pour water on my wife's hand when she is handing you our glass that you cannot reach. Be patient she doesn't want you to spill just as much as you don't want to look like an A$ , if you do pour the water on her say "I'm sorry" or something like that.
5.) Don't make us have to ask for more water.
6.) If we still have our salads in front of us....(BTW we just were handed a big bowl of salad and tongs... you guys didn't even serve or plate the salads) don't bring us our steaks.
We appreciate the "free desert" that was nice (for the timing of the steaks on top of the salads).
The steaks were cooked properly and the drinks were decent, but man you guys are not a steakhouse. But, if anyone in corp. management actually reads these reviews you should train your staff on fine dining or at least review it, as your team here is failing you. You can't call yourself the BEST steakhouse in Canada if you fail with simple things like this.
We ordered the wagyu beef and it was very good. The dinner platter was amazing. Expect to spend quite a bit on just 2 people.
Our server was really good I must say this was in long time to receive the service from Black and Blue. We have been there so many times and never had a good experience. Rob was awesome so personable and very friendly. Thank you Rob .
Lovely lovely experience
Went for the steak and seafood special and it was excellent. The service was perfect. A really enjoyable evening.
My wife and I received a $90 gift card and used this in conjunction with the $180 three course promo. The booking process was very easy with OpenTable which we liked. The food was delicious, especially the main course of steak, lobster, potatoes and veg. Ambiance was nice, service was polite and timely, and we enjoyed ourselves in general. While we would typically not have an issue paying full fair for a meal of this quality (without promo and gift card), the experience left us wanting from a service/atmosphere perspective. The server and bus staff did nothing wrong, but we would typically enjoy more personal touch for a meal/venue of this nature. Perhaps an explanation of how the meal was prepared while it was being presented, or some dialogue about Black and Blue as an award winning restaurant (awards for wine selection 6 straight years, I think I saw on the wall at the entrance). The food was great, but the dining experience as a whole didn't stand out to us.
Two dollar oyster was the best
Steak was great
Lobster tail was too salty
Washroom was filthy. I could not let my daughter seat on it. It will full of mess. I had to clean it with soap and toilet paper. Sadly for a high end restaurant. I expect cleanliness as number 1 even in washrooms.
Based on both reviews and recommendations we decided to dine at Black & Blue. Celebrating LOVE haha late Valentine's Day and visiting Vancouver. Locked in an early reso to ensure we made it to the comedy show later in the evening. Firstly it was a beautiful resturant with very high ceilings and tables spaced appropriately. So you can share intimate moments while having private conversations. Our waiter was charming and knowledgeable. While taking us through the menu he answered all the questions that came up even before we asked. All portions were large. You most definatly can share a side and suggest it. We didn't because the boy friend is allergic to seafood. But it was more than enough food. The steak melted in our mouths. Legit hardly had to chew. lol Happy hour was awesome as it was $5 a glass for the house wine! I suggest this place for a nice meal, before a concert to enjoy happy hour, date night, etc.... Exceeded expectations and will be back!
One of our favourite places to go. Had a couple hiccups with daughters food but they made up for it!
We reserved for a table of 6 people about 6 or 7 days ahead, yet we were seated at a round table right at the front window that felt literally jammed into a corner. Just to make room to sit at the table we had to push it away from the front window. Otherwise with the rear legs of the chair against the wall my belly was pressed against the table. With a 36" waist I'm not thin but I'm certainly not a huge lump either.
We were also close enough to the front door that we were chilled whenever the door opened and throughout the course of the evening, intermittently & alternately "treated" to the odors of cigarette & pot smoke wafting in.
The meal itself was great and the service was good right up until the end but then... my wife having finished only about a 3rd of her $69.00 Rib Eye Steak asked for it to be packed to take home. It was taken away to be packed up but it never returned. Yes we could have asked for it to be returned but then we shouldn't have to and it slipped our minds and were half way home when we realized it never came back.
It's a busy place and clearly popular but frankly for my money I find dining at Hy's Encore a much more elegant & civilized experience and better value. We really like Hy's room at the front upstairs, dark wood, subdued lighting, elegant & away from the bustling, a nice place to escape & enjoy a relaxing meal, not a place to be seen.
Black the table we were sat at was extremely drafty and cramped; cocktail flavours were ok, but mine was a bit overly sweet and my husband's was watery (could definitely be better); the food was generally good, but not worth the price. We had the aged porterhouse, which was tasty, but we ordered medium rare and received a steak that was more like rare to blue-rare. It's a big cut of meat, so difficult to cook perfectly, but for the price of it, and the fact that this is a high-end steakhouse, I have high expectations. Scallops were great, Caesar salad was very nice (nice bite of Dijon/horseradish), but overall I feel like there are better places to go around Vancouver for a fancy meal.
We got seated at the table next to the door despite having a reservation. It was freezing as the door was consistently being opened and held open. It was loud and as the party of hosts and people waiting were right beside us. Our waiter was so rushed due to the number of tables he had that he ran into two guests. It was 20 minutes before we had a drink other than water. Really disappointed in the overall experience. Steak and London Fog was delicious.
