I’m not sure if our bottle of red wine was too close to a display light, but it was very warm when it was served to us. Our server discussed perhaps too much of their personal life in an unprofessional manner. And also gave incorrect descriptions of our dessert. The food was delicious but the overall experience suffered.
the bread for the artichoke dip was rock hard, they did replace it but it was a little too late. Seats are hard to get in and out. Happy Wine is not great. I'd rather spend a little more for a better experience.
Excellent food & presentation.
Good for business meals.
Happy hour is pretty good for appetizers.
We had 2 Tomahawks with sides and it is a meal I won't soon forget!
Went to black and blue with my boyfriend for my birthday and it was amazing ! Our server wished me a happy birthday as soon as she greeted us. She was so attentive. The food was delicious. Amazing experience, we will be back
First time there. Celebrating my anniversary. It was a good vibe place. Good service. Very considerate staff. Good place to hang out and have dates. I will definitely come back.
the meal was good although it arrived a little cool. the waiter was very pleasent but was slow....but in general ok. beautiful place.....mac and cheese sticks excellent.
all the food was cold. We had the tomahawk steak and it was not even warm. The cauliflower was straight out of the fridge and the rest was barely luke warm. We complained about the cauliflower and it was taken off our bill but overall it was disappointing.
Food is always consistent at Black and Blue, although Friday nights tend to be very noisy so it’s not the best spot for a romantic dinner. Service is excellent and quality is top notch.
We reserved a table for dinner expecting a fine dining experience before going to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre for a concert. When we arrived, we were told to go to the roof, which is basically the bar area. It was exceptionally loud and the menu was limited as compared to the full menu available downstairs. The service was very good (our server was able to access some items we had hoped for from the full menu). Likewise, the food was very good, but not worth the price. Had we been seated in the restaurant our experience may have been better.
This was a birthday lunch for a friend. All the restaurant staff were helpful and courteous and our waitress was outstanding. The only thing that was less than perfect was that no-one warned us that because of the romaine lettuce scare, the table side Caesar salad would be made with kale! It was still beautifully prepared and the dressing was delicious, but it was so chewy! I think if we’d known we would have chosen a different starter.
Took my mother there for lunch. The food was excellent and the price was very reasonable. Will definitely come again.
Server went above and beyond to make our anniversary very special and gave us a free dessert with a special message written on it. Very pleased!
Great service by Ashley. Great tasting food. We had the chill platter and it was a first time to eat oysters for one of us and we enjoyed every bite! We then shared the meat and seafood platter. Mashed potatos were so good, the steak was melt in you mouth good, Brussel sprouts were so yummy, the seafood was good too! The only thing we noticed was the lobster was quite small for both plates and didn’t taste fresh (however we lived in NS and got lobster off the boat at 1.5/2lbs for very cheap). We also had some fresh baked buns with butter and chive oil that were so good. We were stuffed but a complementary dessert was given to us as it was our anniversary. It was butter cake and it was a great ending to a meal - not overtaking the food we just ate. We paired our meals with a red wine from Argentina and a non-alcoholic raspberry and mint mocktail. The restaurant itself was tastefully decorated and had a mix of tables, booths and casual couches. An impressive wine list and containment of the wine as well as the salt room displaying the different cuts and types of meat. The bathrooms were nice and well kept. Definitely a great place to celebrate our anniversary!
Fantastic experience - staff was incredibly friendly, food was great and deco stunning.
Fridays burger & beer for $13 is a good deal.
Good for groups too. especially farewell lunches. The environment is nice. Make sure you make a reservation prior
Disappointing. The servers and wait staff all look like they belong in a tattoo parlor, but the restaurant is trying to act high brow. The tables are too high for the chairs so cutting your steak is awkward and uncomfortable. I’m 5’7” so it’s not my height that’s making it uncomfortable. Drink pours are chinsy, the hanging meats in the middle of the restaurant looked interesting in the photo but in person it was disgusting to look at as the outside of the glass windows formed condensation. Gross.
When I asked the waiter about Yorkshire pudding he was condescending. We’ve been to a lot of steakhouses, Larsen’s, Born and Raised, Donovan’s, Ruth Chris, Maestros, and this is by far the lowest on our list resulting from poor service, poor quality and highest snobbery to their patrons. Disappointing to say the least.
We had the ribeye and Japanese wagyu NY sirloin. Both were tender and delicious (more so the wagyu).Would go again.
Great! I had a good time.
Seated a half hour late and that seemed to be the delay for everything that night. Otherwise, experience was fine.
Once we finally got our table...our experience was amazing. Scott was our server and did an excellent job and was super friendly and fun. The food was outstanding!!! I wouldn't order the corn again though...presenting it in little cobs seems too Mexican street food for the calibre of this restaurant. And it didn't taste good. Creamed corn would be way better! Didnt you use to serve it this way?
Also we made our reservation on open table for 815 and we didn't get sat at our table until 915. There was no room at the bar and we were asked to wait next door at coast for a drink and the wait would be 20 mins and they would text us but at 9 we had to call them.
Didn't love that we had to wait an hour even after we had a rezo but we didn't let it ruin our night and still had a great experience.
Best steaks we ever had!!
Our waiter was unbelievable ! I swear he could sense my boyfriend putting his drink menu down while he was walking away and turned back instantly to take his order. It was incredibly impressive, not to mention the flavourful sides we had and the steak!! The steak was so tender and delicious swimming in the pat of butter they put on top that glistened like a diamond as it melted. I want to go back as soon as I can!
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. I was set up with a 2 seat table on the second floor to the back of the elevator. It was secluded from everyone else, with the exception to the loud intoxicated women around the corner lol it was busy so I could understand the slower service but sometimes to long between drinks. I liked our waiter he was nice, but he was quiet until we had to pay. All around people we're getting talked to and told about so much which I feel we lost out in a good black +blue experience due to this. I would come back, but next time I'll need to have a better dinning experience to be spending this money.
Amazing food and service. My son is a starving (lol) UBC student and it is his place to go to for dinner every time I come to town. He loves his steaks BLACK and BLUE and the mac and cheese sticks. Orders the same thing every time.
We came here for Happy Hour after work and sat up on The Roof which is a heated patio. We have been to Black + Blue before but had never sat up on The Roof and we are very glad we did! The ambiance is great and it is decorated nicely. We shared a bunch of Happy Hour menu items (Calamari, Mac and Cheese sticks, Meatball sliders and Artichoke Dip) which we’re all very yummy but our favourite was definitely the artichoke dip! We will be back!
Great time, was surprised that they didn’t get the order correct. Overall great time.
Great food, great service, and overall great service. We'll be back again.
I came in as a business traveler with a couple of dietary restrictions and they took great care to provide me with a delicious meal and outstanding service. I will definitely be back and will be recommending this place to my colleagues.
It was good but our server didn’t really help us
Beautiful, modern decor. Very swanky and hip. Great for that night out with friends.
Sangrias were the best. Service was excellent.
This was the first time that we didn't have a good experience as we go to Black & Blue for most of our special occasions. Our waiter did not introduce himself or tell us about the daily specials. Our waiter took our ordered but did not return with our drink ordered, he brought us our food but left before we could ask for our drinks, he overheard me asks another waiter for our drinks and yelled back over his shoulder he was getting them. Once, our drinks arrived he didn't come back to check how our meal was going or if we needed condemets for our meal. My bun for my hamburger was really soggy, because our waiter didn't return I couldn't send it back for another. I was very disappointed as this was not the high standard that I am accustomed to having at Black & Blue.
Everything is fabulous correct serving polite personnel
Disappointed. My friend took me there for my birthday. Everything was great except the service. We had to ask for water each time which was 3 times. Every time he poured the water ended up on the table. Every time we wanted something he was chatting up people at the bar, either friends or he was flirting with them. We had 2 starters, mains and the bananas foster so we decided to take the butter cake home. When I got home the cake looked like he had taken a bite out of it and the strawberry or fruit was missing. That was when I got upset. The restaurant owes us something.
I can't really describe how wonderful my experience is at the Black & Blue Steakhouse. I made a reservation for my one year anniversary with my boyfriend and the whole night is simply fantastic. This is actually the first time I visited the restaurant. The seating and the decorations are great! We had a steak and seafood platter, perfect for couples and taste delicious. Will definitely visit again! Highly recommend for special events/date night
Very impressed, My partner and I have dined at this restaurant before but this time we requested a table and notified that it was for our anniversary. Not only did they greet us for our anniversary but also offered 2 glasses of campaign to celebrate our special night. Couldnt be any happier of how the night turned out and how the staff were so welcoming.
Our dinner was very good. We sampled the cocktail list which was full of interesting options. The oysters and housemade bread were done really well. We each had the Ribeye which was also very good, though a touch over cooked for my taste. Definitely try the brussel sprouts even if you aren't a fan of them. They are delicious, and if you enjoy cooking yourself you can even find the recipe online from the Glow ball restaurant group website! We also ordered the mushrooms and asparagus and both were good. Our server was very bubbly and attentive. We sat in the front "nook" of the restaurant which was kind of close quarters with other diners. It's so secluded/quiet that there's very little privacy if you wanted to have any conversation that you don't expect your neighbours to hear. Luckily ours were very sweet people and we made a bit of a laugh about it. They even offered to let us try their meals so we knew what was good to order. (Of course we declined and took our chances because everything looked great). If you know your cuts of meat, I would pass on being presented the meat board - we could have done without it and would have saved the server time to go do other things.
Overall a really good experience, though the steak didn't "wow" us, it was good - even though we don't feel it was $150 worth of "good" steak we would go back.
Steak full of gristle and hard to digest.
The lobster main dish had congealed Hollandaise 😳.
Way over salted and fatty.
Best part was the wine and bread 🥖
My wife and my visiting sister in law ordered a platter to share. It came out cold and our server quickly sent it back. After 15-20 mins a different person brought it back out after the rest of us had finished our meals. Not an apology, not a comment? Not even a question if it was any better? We do and should expect more from our favorite restaurant.
James and Tracy Harper
It’s nice in the roof top but their was a leak great service except for the table beside us so rude and noisy it’s as if they’re the only one their keeps on saying bad words on my sons 11th birthday food was great service great
Service was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. It was an enjoyable meal.
