Blue Canoe Waterfront Restaurant
I went here for brunch with my mom on Mothers' Day, we had a nice time and the food was really good.
I was very disappointed with my recent visit. I made online reservation on Saturday for pre-Mother’s Day celebration with my husband and son. My husband got there first but the hostess seated him at the waiting table right by the very noisy bar , by the busy entrance and worst of all, right next to the toilets. I did not visit the toilets but can imagine the condition inside as I was sitting there smelling it. I did not understand why After booking online for dinner that we weren’t seated in the dining room?
The restaurant did not even look busy.
When I asked one of the hostesses, not the one who seated my husband, she was helpful and put us in the dining room.
The hostess said the deck tables and most of the dining room tables were reserved and that was the reason given for why our family got the ‘toilet seats!’ We made a reservation too!!
Regardless, my family ordered dinner but I had lost all appetite by that point.
Just wanted to note that by the time my husband and son finished their dinner, the dining room remained one third seated, exactly the way it looked when we entered the dining room.
I do not understand why we got the ‘special treatment.’ I cannot help but think is it because we were not worthy to honour the dining room in the eyes of the first hostess who seated my husband?
I do not feel fair to rate the food. But eating out is an experience. This one left me with a nasty after taste before the food was even ordered.
Great food and great ambiance at a fair price. It get really busy during tourist season - so make sure you have a reservation. Best thing is that it’s open all winter and even more cozy and romantic then.
A great location overlooking Steveston harbour and the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island. Service and food and ambience have been consistently very good for over a decade. The wine list is better than most in Steveston. There are quite a few good BC wine choices. It could use a few more Spanish, Italian, and French choices.
My biggest criticism is that the menu seldom changes. And they seldom have any specials which is okay with the tourist trade who maybe come once a year, but as a local who goes to this restaurant about six times a year, I wish they had specials. Our server pointed out that there was one special, and it was an $80 Crab Boil, which needless to say, is a tad expensive and is the only special. The chef is obviously talented so why doesn't he or she show his talent at coming up with three or four specials that change every month or so.
Service was ok but not great. Server seemed rushed and inattentive. Food was ok but not great as expected for this price/type of restaurant.
Hot in the glass outside patio but fine when we went inside. Noisy kids inside with even louder parents. Great meal - fish and chips and the salad Nicoise. Wonderful service. Will definitely be back.
Nice restaurant with lots of sunshine
Great food and service!!
Prices continue to rise while service (decent but not excellent) remains constant. Food is generally very good although portions are definitely on the small side. This place is a license to print money since they really have no competition in Steveston. Most restaurants here depend on tourists so repeat business is not critical to them. The amount of gouging on a glass of wine is just ridiculous. All that said, it’s still the best restaurant in the area if you are not just looking for fish and chips.
Very small portions expensive pricing Wow. They need more wider bowls for serving. Food quality was average. Tacos 3 small ones, Calamari so little. Soups so small bowls. Be generous with portions when you charge an arm and a leg. Not going back.
It was really nice to celebrate my wife’s birthday here. The seafood was delicious. Also we had a really nice view to water and surroundings on their patio covered for a colder season
I’m must-see in the Vancouver Richmond area, made a great night spectacular!
My girlfriend didn’t receive her steak until others were almost finished their meals. When she finally got it, the steak was extremely over cooked and very tough (medium rare was requested). At that point she chose to eat it anyways because she was very hungry. The restaurant comped the steak, but overall it was a bad experience.
Have been going to this restaurant a couple of times each year, for many years, and had always enjoyed the restaurant, food and experience. Last visit however had disappointing food service, slow and inexperienced, including most of the food served cold. Unfortunate, we feel the value and quality is just not enough to bring us back again.
Beautiful spot for dining and sunsets
Was an awesome spot to stop for lunch. Would go back again for sure next time iam in the area.
Tuna salad not worth the money! Not much to it!! Shrimp salad had only 4 shrimp! Not worth the money! Service was good! Food s bit expensive for what you get!
The only negative point was the music.. it was still valentine spirit and the music didnt do the romantic ambiance ...
Everything else was perfect!!!!
Our waitress was very attentive and kept checking if we were ok but food service was extremely slow. The Arctic char was slightly over cooked and my salad was over dressed. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely. Beautiful views!
Nice to see the new menu at this old haunt! We realize that the menu changes seasonally but it just wasn’t clicking for us for quite some time. We’ll now be back :)
Restaurant is very inviting - patio or inside. Service has been excellent on each visit as has the food. This time I found it distracting that the Mgr was working at a table in the restaurant and having fairly loud phone conversations. Really he should have been more aware. Also a window facing booth overlooked an area with trash cans and necessary items but could be camoflaged as the draw is to be able to look out at the river traffic.
Overall it was a really good experience. We went for dine out Vancouver - it would have been nice if it was explained to us at the start. The server came for our drink order, Then came back two separate times for appy orders. She was very polite and maybe a little shy. The food was excellent. I got sable fish and salmon which both had excellent taste. The curry with the salmon wasn’t overpowering at all and was just right.
Great food & service. Excellent overall.
Been there twice & both times we enjoyed dinning @ Blue Canoe.
We had the Dine Out Vancouver menu, pirtions were plentiful, all the food was tasty. Service was good
Wonderful Restaurant - right on the water - food was delivered quickly - staff was very friendly.
I have dined at this restaurant many, many times and the food quality is consistently inconsistent. Sometimes it has been pretty good, but more often the quality, flavors, and portion size have been really disappointing. You should honestly be embarrassed by what you call fish tacos. There was hardly any fish and what was in there was cold, dry, grey and so fishy tasting. The tacos were drowned in what tasted like jarred taco sauce. The Caesar salad wasn’t good, wasn’t bad, wasn’t memorable. You can and have done better. The view is great, the servers are great but the food really needs work. And yes, we should have sent it back but the kitchen shouldn’t need the customers to point out terrible food and poor quality ingredients.
The food was good, the server was very friendly and attentive but the ambiance was not there. There was no background music and being a slower night, it was almost awkward to converse at the table.
Price of the Dine Out menu is same as most expensive restaurants in town but this local, although nice, can not be held at the same level of other more sophisticated restaurants with the same price for the event. Food was good in general but a big complaint with the steaks, we ordered medium rare and they were cooked to perfection inside but they were charred on the outside (on the grill marks) so the taste of the burned meat ruined the meal.
The food and wine was good. Waterfront location. But I won't recommend the sweet.
Excellent service. Had all Appies, food was very good.
The restaurant was busy and noisy near the entrance but the management gave us a prefect seat in front of the fireplace away from the crowds, perfect for an evening of conversation.
The meals came one at a time. Soup was cold and sent back. By the time the fourth meal came another one had more than half of their meal eaten.
Old and poor quality buns for the sliders. Good service however you need to serve a basket of bread. We had some difficulty booking reservation online for our desired time even though the restaurant was almost empty.
Nice ambience. No pressure to leave when done eating. I would certainly go back.
Unfortunately, we took some friends from out of town to the Blue Canoe. It was disappointing & embarrassing. I booked a view table for 4 a couple of weeks in advance & the weather cooperated. It was a lovely day however, the service was abysmal & they weren’t even that busy. A table for 6 came in after us & were served well before us. The server/s were friendly but useless. Finally, our lunch arrived but only for 3 of us. We had to wait for a good 5 minutes or more for the 4th meal to be served & that was only after we inquired about the 4th meal. No apologies either. My husband & I love fish tacos. We order them at most restaurants. The Blue Canoe’s were tasteless & had very little fish in them. For $17.95, they were a complete rip-off. We won’t be going again & I certainly wouldn’t take friends there or recommend it to anyone. As I said, I was very embarrassed that we entertained friends from out of town & had such a poor & disappointing experience. Never again.
One out of two visits: food was very slow and no bread or anything was offered. The other time, it was timely.
Some meals overpriced.
But view amazing and staff friendly!
Great dinner out, excellent service, wonderful view! I had the stuffed salmon, my wife had a steak, both were cooked to perfection!
Service was excellent! Views are beautiful! Food was fine- nothing stood out as fabulous.
We have been to this restaurant a number of times and always enjoy a view on the patio and the food. I am giving an overall 3-star rating because my partner made three drink orders with the server and each time she came back saying they were out of that product or unable to make it. At the end of it all she didn't even offer to compensate the corona that was finally ordered. Additionally, one of the daily specials was unavailable as they had run out. I have never experienced so many unavailable products in one sitting at a restaurant.
