Boathouse English Bay Ratings and Reviews
Great birthday dinner. Really great seafood!
Very nice location, close to the beach and Stanley Park. Very nice view. The price is reasonable. Food is average.
We had a fantastic dinning experience with boathouse. Excellent food especially the lobster tail, so awesome that it almost melt in your mouth.
We will definitely be back and will recommend this restaurant to our family and friends.
Overpriced for a meal that had no flavour. We used to really enjoy the Boathouse, but it seems the quality of food has dropped while the prices have continued to go up. Service was great though, even though we had a large group and needed to add extra seats at the last minute.
The Pacific cod was great. I would recommend the creme brulee.
Great location with a nice view of water and mountains. Food is nice enough and service was great. It gets busy on fine days but was pretty empty for Wednesday lunch on a rainy day.
Came for Happy Hour in the lounge on a cold, rainy day. The fire was roaring, which gave great comfort to our cold bones. Craig was a phenomenal server; made us feel at home, gave us super personalized service, & made us feel special!!!! Was a fantastic experience & I would recommend Boathouse English Bay to anyone - especially if Craig is involved!!!!
Service was good, food was ok. Expected to be served bread before dinner like most other Boathouse restaurants and others, but we were not given the opportunity. Was not one of our memorable anniversary dinners - that was our 52nd!
The value of the meal for New Year's eve was over rated. The same meal ordinarily would have cost $55.00 per person. Very slow service, steak was not cooked properly. Have been a patron of the Boathouse for many years but this was not the best experience. I will give it a go one more time. I am assuming that this was a one off experience.
Excellent food, service and ambience.
Would highly recommend to anyone
Service was terrible and food way to over salted. Very disappointing!
Got the best table over looking water
Christmas Eve dinner
Simply excellent!! Highly recommend!! Our server was the best!!
How can u run out of king crab legs at Christmas time,, wow
Delicious food and attentive and friendly service. Thank you.
Not a variety to substitute on veggies nor the cooking cheap canola oil. Front door gals not welcoming , my kid fell down the stairs and they did not care , literally looked away. Restroom facility was inconvenient location. Food was not great at all. Obvious management holds back on substitute menu items
Came here because I live sea food and we were celebrat8ng my boyfriends birthday. The restaurant and the decor was lovely and a nice setting for a special occasion. To be honest the food was a let down. I would expect the food that I had in a bar or average venue. What my boyfriend had ( crab ravioli) was quite nice. Everything else left a lot to be desired. We still had a nice evening but I wouldn't return or recommend.
A lovely restaurant to chat on a Monday evening. The crab legs had some over done parts but the portion sizes are generous.
Where to start! Had an 8:30 reservation...we arrived on time to a vacant reception area and at first thought the restaurant may be closed....a host? arrived and then promptly left without a welcome! She arrived back and said "follow me" which we did...my mom is elderly and had a hard time climbing the very long set of stairs to the restaurant. Had we known the layout we would definitely not chosen it for this reason alone. Ambience is non existent...very old and out dated. View is spectacular but so would have been the Cactus Club across the street! The service was ok at best however we could have overlooked that and the ambience had the food been great but it was not! We had out of town guests from Ethiopia and thought a nice meal of our awesome BC seafood would be fitting. So disappointing!!!!! My husband had steak and lobster, the lobster was absolutely over cooked and dry, two of us had the lobster grill which had salmon, shrimp skewer (called prawns) and a stuffed lobster tail....well...the lobster tail stuffing was horrible...it tasted like cream cheese and who knows what blah yuk...the salmon was very fishy (I come from a fishing family and know good salmon!) the shrimp skewer was ok tasted like some steamed shrimp but ok and the wild rice pilaf soooo salty nobody ate it.... my mom had the Miso crusted halibut and only ate a few bites so we packed it up to take home. I tasted it at home and it was also so salty that it was inedible. My mom has dementia so didn't speak up but I felt badly that we hadn't sent her meal back! Also have to mention when we decided to have the "make it a meal option" when we ordered our meal we had to advise up front which dessert option we would like....one guest changed her mind but it was already preordered...not sure if that's standard protocol but not a fan...seemed like a fast food joint! Long and short we will never go back! Restaurant was not busy and I can see why. Truly felt we got the dregs!! Very poor!
Boathouse always a great experience. The English Bay location is beautiful with amazing views of the bay. The food is top notch and our server was attentive and professional.
Food not as great as I remember. Dessert (creme brule) very disappointing. Service fine.
Food was great, staff very friendly, no complain at all. We came for a bday dinner and really enjoyed it. It was raining and dark outside so can't say much about the view. desert was delicious to.
Great birthday cake
The coconut prawns are Amazing’
Spectacular ambience, even without a window seat. A little noisy early on but less so later in the evening. Nice to see Sangria on the menu. The appetizer and desert for an extra $10 was fabulous and a great idea for couples who like to share. We were celebrating an occasion and did not feel rushed. A neighbourhood gem for sure.
Food was good Although $60 for Steak and lobster was on the high end.
Martini was a real short pour. I know - Laws. Yada Yada Yada
Went for a birthday lunch. One person in our party was celebrating a milestone birthday and we mentioned it on the reservation. We also mentioned that we wanted the Thanksgiving menu and nowhere on the Boathouse website did it say that the Thanksgiving menu was only at dinner time. Even with a "happy birthday" balloon in hand (and the mention in the reservation) the hostess made no effort to say "happy birthday". Our server originally didn't wish a happy birthday, but when reminded he did make things right by bringing a complimentary piece of cake with a candle on it. At least the view was spectacular and the cajun cod tacos were delicious. The burger was not bad but not spectacular either. Overall a bit disappointing. Attention to the reservation details and more accurate mention of when the Thanksgiving menu was available would have made the experience more enjoyable.
Great location, excellent view. Very busy when we arrived so slow pace of service was ok. The food and wine were excellent. The only downside was the noise of other diners.
We were lucky to be given a table by the window upstairs. That's the plus side. It is what it is a pub really and the food reflects that. The waiters/waitress aprons are atrociously dirty at the start of the evening service (6pm).
Great food and the service was excellent. My husband had special requests because of this health. They took great care!
Great views and the food matched the ambiance wonderfully
Seafood chowder was good but not hot. A salmon filet was over cooked slightly. Mussels very good. Shrimp bunwitch was also good but not very shrimpy.
Not busy and just a beautiful day in October on the beach. Service was excellent .
We enjoyed our supper. Excellent service very efficient and nice.
One of the waiters has an incredible voice, singing Happy Birthday to two different groups, in Italian. Beautiful.
Food was great - Fish & Chips, and the Shrimp & Chicken Curry.
Waterfront view, great spot for a date.
Will be back again
We loved the Boathouse!! It was the best meal - by far - that we had in Vancouver. Highly recommend!
Food was decent. Service was inattentive and uncoordinated. Waiters were more worried about setting up empty tables than taking care of tables with customers. Ordered a bottle of wine that never made it to the table because the bartender couldn't find it. It may have been a bad night, but it was a bad experience.
The food was amazing at The Boathouse. We got the mussels, coconut shrimp and crab dip. I was extremely happy with all of our food. The server great and didn't rush us at all. She definitely read the group correctly. I would go back here again.
We were all from out-of-town. We found the view, the food and the wine list were very good. The service by Leslie was excellent. A great place in Vancouver by English Bay.
Food was great - steak and grilled prawns with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. The portion was deceptively small, but ultimately very filling. Great peppercorn sauce on the steak, nicely cooked to my liking and the mashed potatoes were very rich. On the downside, I found the place very noisy, which overshadowed the entire experience. We had a 6:45 reservation and left shortly after finishing our meals, since I REALLY dislike having to yell and strain to be heard. I could hardly hear my one friend across the table. I would have been happy to hang out longer otherwise, but the noise was too much for me.
The only disappointment was the penne rustica.....it was very bland. If it wasn't for the prawns that I ordered with it I would have sent it back.
