We came out from ABBOTSFORD. I booked a few days ago on Open Table. Traffic was bad so I called to let them know we would be 10 min late. The girl (and by ‘girl’ I mean she sounded like a young girl and spoke unprofessionally like a young girl) answered and said there was no such name attached to a reservation. I told her I booked on Open Table. She said that there was no reservation and listed off everyone else who had reserved for 5:30. She then asked me if maybe I had called and made the reservation at a different location. I then reiterated that I had booked ion Open Table, not called in a reservation. She seemed confused so I asked if she even knew what Open Table was as she said ‘uh, no’. Who doesn’t know Open Table? Furthermore, shouldn’t someone working at a restaurant the uses Open Table, know what it is? Luckily there was room and we were able to be seated. The person that seated us seemed not fully engaged. It was strange. We were seated and our waitress was awesome. She was Irish we suspected and she was very friendly yet professional and helpful. We were given a couple of buns with butter to start. This is not the bread we remember. Not sure when it changed but even a year or two ago we had lovely warm breakapart our dough bread that was so good. We were really not impressed with the buns which reminded us of discount bulk buns. The food we ordered was good. The prices are too high for the food though. We have JRG S+L in Abbotsford now and the food is actually a bit better and less cost. Overall, we are sadly disappointed with this Boathouse and it has always been our favourite one to go to
Out of country guests
It was our last night in Vancouver before flying home to Ireland after a two week vacation. Robert our server was amazing. He spent time with us discussing the food options as well as having the ability of looking after a massive birthday get together (approximately 30 people!) equally. Outstanding service.
Our last night was made all the more special by the excellent food & Robert’s kind attention.
Our view of the beach as the sun was going down was magical.
They were out if a Rose wine i ordered. They had another Rose fir $6 more. I asked if the manager would honor the price if the less expensive bottle since they were out. He said no. So I told our waiter that I would then spend less and I did! Probably $40 less! They lost $40 over probably a wholesale price difference of $2! I spoke with the manager, Chris after dinner and told him exactly what i just stated here. He just shrugged and walked off.
Food was average at best, service was average. Need to freshen decor as it has really taken a step back since we were last here. Cactus club was rocking out the door, and the Boathouse was half empty on a sunny Saturday evening. Better make changes fast!
The waiter, Travis, was super friendly and helpful. really made my experience enjoyable why I sat and waited for friends.
LOVE the valet service, a real bonus and you can't top the view!
Prices were much higher than I remember them.
It was fantastic, the food was great, the view was great, the service was great. Nothing to complain about it.
Service was pretty awful. After we got seated we waited over 20 minutes to even get water. Our server was apparently too busy to come over, but had plenty of time to mingle with his other tables. We would have walked out, but another server noticed and was kind enough to help us out.
Violin recital for daughter
The view is pretty of the sunset over the bay. We started with the fish tacos which tasted good but the sashimi tuna was chewy and the taco shells were filled with mostly rice. I had the crusted Halibut which I enjoyed. My friend had the steak and snow crab legs. The steak was tough and the crab legs were on the small side. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Boathouse English Bay because the food is not great. There are too many other better restaurant choices.
Wanted to eat good seafood and see the sunset over the beach. The service and food were really good. The waiter (Gilraud - apols if wrong) was exceptional. Well done Boathouse, always nice to find a new and great place. See photo attached.
Excellent service-food was tasty-would dine there again and highly recommend
TOO NOISY ... trying to visit with friends from South Africa... could hardly hear one another
Service and view are amazing. However the dated and worn room and average food do not warrant the current pricing structure.
Great location, great food, great service! Highly recommend.
First time here. Loved it! Everything was first rate. Our server wa awesome. We highly recommend this place.
The ambiance of this place is great as it's right by the water! They have quite a bit of variety, however, if you are vegan or vegetarian, I would suggest skipping this place as they only have yam fries to offer guests.
A tremendous disappointment. Undercooked fish, super slow service and not a good experience for Father's day. At 5pm, no one should have to wait that long for a meal.
Fathers Day lunch out. It was so so. Won’t go back again.
Plates were dirty and requested to switch. Fish and chips were heavily battered. Flavour is ok. Bc wild salmon burger was tasty but fries were meh. Steamer mussel pot was good.
Amazing food and beautiful view of English Bay. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Food and service were excellent for our entire group of 8. Beautiful view of English Bay
Food was amazing and our waiter was fantastic helpful funny all round great
Although the waiter was very friendly, he interrupted our meal and conversation a bit too often. He would come back and say, "I can't remember if I asked you this but how was your meal?". Or, "I can't remember if I asked you this but did you want another drink?". After a while I got a bit annoying with the constant interruptions... But he was still very friendly. I had never had Poke before and very much enjoyed it.
Food was great. Ambience was perfect for our foursome. Not too noisy. We didn’t have to yell just to talk to each other.
Only thing that wasn’t great was that despite having a reservation we had to wait for 15+ minutes past our reservation time with guests who just walked in, and had to complain to the hostess why there’s such a long wait only to find out that there were so many empty tables. Didn’t make sense.
Other than that part everything else was great from the time we got seated. Our server was fantastic.
Beatlutiful evening. Good food, service was kind of slower but we didn’t care because we had the best view!! King crab legs were to die for!! Great experience overall.
Unfortunately the experience, except for our server, was very poor. We had the crab and shrimp omelette. Mine was ok but not very tasty. My friend’s omelette was over cooked. The nugget potatoes that came with it made me feel like they were from McCains and not hand made. The waiter was very friendly and attentive however did not know how to make a virgin mojito. First time around when he brought the drink the soda water was flat and it tasted like it was just a glass of water with mint leaves and a lime thrown in. When I brought it to his attention he promptly went to replace it but when he brought back a new one, yes it did have the bubble of soda water but still none of the other ingredients in a virgin mojito. I kind of got the feeling like this restaurant is suffering for business and instead of paying a bartender they were making the servers pour the drinks. I had not been back to this restaurant for 20 years and unfortunately will not go back again. It is not worth the high prices for mediocre food that Denny’s could make better. It’s a shame because this is a great location overlooking English Bay.
We have always like this restaurant. Great seafood menu with options for those not so inclined. Great view and ambience, one step down from fine dining. We were just a bit disappointed with our waitress this time. She was not as attentive as we are accustom to. Otherwise, it was a great meal.
Ambience and location is good. Can't beat the view. Service was as expected for this level and location of restaurant (prime tourist area). Greeting staff were ok. Our server was good.
However food wise was only so so. Prices are high for what it is. My mom's 9 oz sirlion was ordered medium...and for the most part it was...but the meat itself was dry and was over seasoned (too salty).
Portion size...again what is expected for this class and location. Moderate portion size.
Come here for the view...and service. You can get better food elsewhere.
It was a lovely leisurely brunch with great service and the food was excellent.
We ordered the crab dip as an appetizer and felt the ratio of dip to chips was a bit heavy on the chip side. The grilled seafood and snow crab legs were delicious as usual. The butter bowl is always a nice touch.
Went for dinner after my graduation and had a lovely time! Our server was wonderful, very personable and attentive. The food was delicious, I especially enjoyed the creme brûlée!
Although we have enjoyed eating several times at the Boathouse in White Rock, after making reservations to stop by English Bay upon arrival, enroute from Horseshoe Bay to where we are staying in Langley, we discovered that there was absolutely no place to park a vehicle anywhere near this restaurant and if there was it is only by permit. Disappointed we could not dine here and frustrated with the local bylaws.
Good food. Great view. Good service. On the pricey side but you get a decent amount of food.
First time at the Boathouse – and it was for a special occasion. Really enjoyed the food, ambiance, view. The service was friendly but professional. It was a very good overall dining experience. I/we would certainly go there again.
The food was very good, no one had any complaints. Waiter was knowledgeable of the menu items, but his big push was the "Rewards program" and went on length over and over about the discount, the us exchange benefit and restaurants..Too much, too long of a pitch..During the meal when he came back to see if we would sign-up and we declined, he lost all interest in our table..Had to chase someone for a spoon for the pasta and more coffee which did not happen..
Sadly the food wasn’t very good , we all felt a little sick from the fish later at home , my chili chicken was not good , the waiter was ( guy with long hair in a bun ) honestly grumpy and on edge. Like I get happier more professional and kind service at red robins ....
beautiful place great atmosphere but for the price and location , blown away by what I just listed above .
Just being honest . It was my sisters birthday and my mom doesn’t have a lot of money
. I feel bad that she spent it here.
Food was ok, but service was not professional. Need to improve.
This place is long past its prime. Disappointing to see what it's become, given the great English Bay location.
The vegan/vegetarian options, or lack thereof, are an embarrassment especially given the health focus of a city like Vancouver. As a result, hosting business dinners here should be reconsidered if anyone may have a dietary restriction.
The interior is very tired, and dark.
Ultimately, it's a great location wasted. Go elsewhere.
