Fantastic service and fantastic food, cannot compliment you enough particularly when this was our 24th wedding anniversary.
The only thing I would make mention is not to sit people so close to us who can over hear every word we are saying particularly when the restaurant was empty, did not understand the rationale behind this but found it very distracting and quite annoying at times.
Other than that we had a great time with exceptional service, will for sure be back.
Second year for my Niece`s birthday supper ât her request. All staff perform far above that of ANY restaurant I have been to in Calgary! The food has always been an amazement to me, always perfect! I have been here a number of times and I will continue coming here! My favorite restaurant in Calgary!!
Food was not Upto the expectations
Came for dinner with family visitors from Sweden. Three of us had the linguine carbonara and I can safely say that it is the best I have ever experienced. My mother’s husband commented it was also the best he has had and they are world travellers. It is an absolute delight. My wife had the hand rolled gnocchi with mushrooms dish and it was outstanding also. Our server was attentive and fun. All in all a “superb” dining experience. Thank you!!
It was my friends birthday lunch. I noted this when I made reservations on open table. At other restaurants, when I do this, the restaraunt acknowledges the birthday somehow....but Bonterra did not. Disappointed.
1/2 order of pasta was frightfully small.
Good flavours as always and a nice atmosphere.
Six of us to celebrate an 18th birthday, Mom dad grand parents. Ordered bread and lots of appetizers to share. All went well. Not made to hurry. Great to have the option of small portions for the pasta entree. An excellent evening enjoyed by everyone.
Our food was amazing and so was the service! We will be returning again!
On a beautiful evening, their outdoor dining is so lovely
This has been one of our favourite Calgary Restaurants for years. The patio is our favourite patio for dining in CALGARY. It is not your normal Calgary patio & feels like you are in some exotic city . The ambiance is second to none and food is always fabulous , interesting and creative.
Service very friendly. Every dish was done nicely, meat very tender. Best carbonara I’ve had!
Great atmosphere, fresh ingredients, amazing menu, fantastic knowledgeable service. Delightful Italian food!
Service was very good, and can’t find anything bad to say about the food. All inside aspects were fine, but no handicapped parking and paying for parking was a bit “bush league” to me.
This restaurant has never disappointed! If you haven’t gone, go. If you’ve gone but not sit on the patio, go again! They are always changing the menu with the best in season ingredients so it’s new and exciting each return visit!
Absolutely lovely! The outdoor seating is gorgeous and the food is delightful! Service was great. I would highly recommend !
I ordered the small spaghetti dish and received the large one. The small would’ve been better for my appetite. Server should double check this with people.
To be honest, it was disappointing. Past meals at Bonterra have been fantastic and consistent but our experience today wasn’t. We had a team lunch and our order was taken at 12 o’clock but food arrived at 12:50. When we finally received our food, half the entree’s was warm and not hot. Consensus among us wasn’t favourable as our previous experience was fantastic.
However the Manager came and talked to us about our service and apologized, then comped the entrees. Thank you for that.
The server was abrupt and wanted to hurry us. The cod entree was dry and had very little flavour.
I thought there was going to be more options for pasta, given it being an Italian restaurant. Their specials looked good, but we opted for pasta. It was good, nothing to write home about.
We went for anniversary, and was put upstairs by the “families”. One whom had their kids playing iPads at full volume.
If given the option, stay main level.
Will be a while till we come back.
Great restaurant! The service was friendly and the wine was great. Love the spaghetti bolognese!
Excellent food and service, beautiful terrace. Looking forward to returning.
It is a place where I can share the time with my friends.
It also has a good atmosphere for dating a lover.
Had great time, everytime I go.
Price: i would say quite fair a bit expensive but fair because of the service, the Italian elegance of the exterior and interior the vine menu, the dishes
Interior: with the blocks the chandeliers and the vinery quite feeling of a European cellar restaurant with a vinery what actually nailed
Service: hosting nice when they saw us when we just stepped in we didn’t even wait they were there to host us , waitering what I saw she was a bit confused but she did let say well
Dishes: bruschetta excellent, main course absolutely tasty deserts delicious , I’ve chosen the vine to our courses but I asked her for a recommendation to our meals but she didn’t even wait for our order she was offering us vine before
I would give a 3* because of the waitress and because of the vision of the courses
Amazing food, service and patio! I highly recommend for all occasions. The calamari salad is unbelievable and my wild boar chop was cooked to perfection. Great wine selection and the overall value is good.
The gnocchi was phenomenal 👌
Our server, Kostas? was amazing. Attentive, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list.
Would go again in a minute.
May have been an off night for Bonterra, but food was super slow (>1.5 hours) to arrive, some diners at our table got served a good 5+ mins before the others. Waitress was very awkward and kept 'calling out' items on the menu, and oversuing the 'Sir' and 'Mame' thing - our kids are younger than her! Also double pouring both sparkling and tap water round and round the table while we waited a long time for our wine to arrive. Finally had to ask her to stop pouring and bringing out more bottles of water. Although our reservation was at 7:30, not terribly late, the kitchen ran out of Bolognese sauce - quite surprising for an Italian restaurant to run out of a staple sauce! Salads were very uninteresting - anemic looking Caesar, strange calamari mixed into a salad. Pasta servings were pretty small and the carbonara sauce had separated and was oily and way too salty. Very disappointing meal overall. Restaurant removed the obligatory 19% gratuity for our bill as we were a party of 8. Waitress however, was arguing with my husband that she had done a good job. All round poor experience, not to be blamed all on the waitress who was inexperienced it appeared and was trying (not succeeding) to be attentive.
I hadn't been to Bonterra for quite some time. It was one of the BEST dinners I have had in ages. We will definitely be going back much more often! Such a Gem.
This is such a lovely restaurant, especially when it’s mild enough outside to enjoy the courtyard. However, on our recent visit I was disappointed in the food and the service. I ordered the clams, which were dominated in volume and flavour by a large amount of bread crumbs. Our server was sullen and appeared to resent our presence. I don’t care for a server who is overly friendly, but this woman was at the other end of the spectrum; she put a damper on our evening.
Slow service. Main courses came out before appetizers.
I was incredibly disappointed with the dining experience here, which is upsetting because I really wanted to love the place.
First, we waited 40 minutes for our table even though our reservation was made for 7pm. We came about 10 minutes early, expecting to wait until 7 to be seated, and we weren’t seated until almost 7h40. We waited at the bar for almost 30 minutes before the manager acknowledged us and offered us an appetizer on the house along with our first round of drinks on the house.
Finally we were seated and then we had to wait another 10 minutes for our server to come by. She was incredibly nice but obviously had been given a busy section.
We ordered Ben’s Menu which is a 4 course meal. The appetizer on the house which was stuffed squash blossom dish came by and it tasted good. Nice flavours and very creamy. Then our insalata came by which was a carrot salad, my boyfriend absolutely hated it but I enjoyed it - definitely a love it or hate it dish. It was very sour, which are flavours I enjoy but he did not.
Then we waited 40 minutes for our risotto, which I did not enjoy all that much, but my boyfriend liked a lot. I also found the portion too large - which seemed intentional as the secondi was incredibly small. The entrée (which we waited another almost half hour for) was three thin slices of maybe 2-inch long pieces of ribeye with a small potato on what I think was a purée of carrot or sweet potato, small salad beside it (a few leaves of what I think was arugula, one cherry sliced in half and a roasted or poached peach). It feels that they intentionally made the risotto larger so that they didn’t have to serve as much of the ribeye. Very disappointing.
Lastly we finished with the dessert (the “Happy Ending”) a selection of 5 bite sized desserts. They were ok, nothing spectacular.
At the end our bill didn’t have everything we were told would be on house. We were so frustrated we just paid the bill ($150 - not worth it).
We will definitely not come back.
My family and I were recently at Bonterra, I've been many times over the years but it was the first time I was bringing my family/special occasion. I want to start off by saying the food was great, no issues at all. The service maybe wasn't as favorable. Our server seemed to be having a bad day (?), we waited 20 minutes to even be acknowledged, she was very short on words, not rude but again didn't seem to be having a good evening. We carried on, on our way out the back door looked at her to say thank you, have a good evening and she didn't even notice, she seemed to be exchanging words/having a 'moment' with the food prep staff. We still tipped over 20% but I thought the service would have been better. The worst part is today at work I was telling my colleague about the evening, she started laughing and said 'did the server look like...' and described her to a T, I said yes how did you know and she said we're there all the time, that's just how she is.
The ambience and food were great. The service was a little slow but overall we really enjoyed it!
Another great meal at one of our favourite restaurants. The food is consistently delicious and the service is always friendly and professional! Also a great wine list!
Food was incredible. Could not recommend the family style dining for the whole table more.
Full disclosure: I'm Italian. My mother and nonna are the best cooks in the world. So my standards are pretty high.
The food was ok. The tomatoes in the bruschetta were fresh and ripe. Traditional bruschetta doesn't include balsamic and I found the acid off putting. Traditional bruschetta also doesn't have cheese but the goat cheese was a nice touch and the crostini were very crisp and garlicky.
The truffled mushroom risotto (on that night's specials) was disappointing. Over cooked (the rice grains had burst) and there was much too much truffle oil.
The calamari dish was balanced and well seasoned.
The merluzzo was delicious and well cooked. The arancini that came with it was not traditional but very tasty and complemented the dish well.
The dessert that night was an orange cake with a lemon curd, a rhubarb compote, whipped ricotta, and pistachios and strawberries. It was delicious.
The menu had a dish called "Baccala" (which is salt cod) yet the fish listed was halibut. I mentioned to the waitress that the dish was misnamed and she said "oh yeah, we know. It's just that our restaurant is all about fresh and local ingredients and it's in that style." Huh? That's like calling a dish "beef" and serving pork instead. Don't get it. Anyhow, we've been eating our way through Calgary and would recommend Bonterra but if you're familiar with traditional Italian food, this isn't quite it. Try their pizza place (Posto) next door though. The food was really good. Personally, I'll be going back to Posto. I won't be going back to Bonterra.
THey have the most beautiful patio that is so pleasant during the summer. Wait staff if very knowledgeable and food is absolutely delicious. Everything we’ve ever ordered has been perfect
Delicious home made seafood ravioli. The out door patio looked lovely although it was full when we got there. Great service!
Very nice evening on the patio with efficient and pleasant server with an excellent choice of food. We selected the Chefs Menu family style for the four of us. Delicious flavors and certainly ample portions. We try to go each year in our anniversary and never disappointed!
The ambience and service at Bonterra is always very good, and my most recent time there was no exception. The food is usually exceptional, but this time I rated it as good. Ingredients are fresh and presentation is spot on, but the linguine carbonera was overly rich (with egg). My caprese salad, while beautiful, could have used more balsamic and the mozzarella was mostly tasteless.
Bonterra has hit so many high marks in the past, that maybe this is a bit of a let down by comparison.
All the food was very good
We had polpetta, tagliatelle vongole ,flat iron steak , cheese plate and white choclate panacotta . No complaints , nice choice of wine by the glass . Service was attentive without being pushy . Very pleasant evening
