Borealis Grille & Bar - Guelph
Great service and they had Detour on tap (my favorite).
Food however was just o.k. I had the Cheddar Burger which came luke warm at best. It was then piled high with "ice cold" tomato/lettuce/pickle etc. which cooled the burger down even quicker. Burger meat was dry (way overcooked). I don't think the burger was cooked to order or it would of been juicy and hot. Fries also were only warm to the touch. Halfway thru dinner everything was cold.
My wife has the Turkey Burger which she said was good.
Not a great night.....normally a good place to eat and drink Detour....
This was our second time at Borealis. We enjoyed it every bit as much as the first time, therefore we will return.
Despite it being busy we were well looked after, and the food was well timed and the correct temperature.
The service was genuinely friendly and not intrusive.
We went for the first time. The menu looked amazing, ambiance was nice, great selection of food and drinks. But our food was not good especially for the price.
Our bartenders were amazing and very interactive. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back. Mike and Dylan gave us great service.
Lovely Valentine menu-good value. Service with Portia was wonderful. She was very attentive and helpful throughout the evening. Thank you!
Valentines Day Dinner.
We had always thought of going many times but never did until now.
Good food service and ambiance.
I recommend at least to give a try
First time at Borealis. Went with my wife for Valentine's Day. Was very impressed with the speed of service, food quality and overall experience.
We were cramped at a little table with constant traffic walking behind me and bumping me throughout our entire Valentine's dinner. Meal was far too rushed for us to really enjoy. Server was very nice and friendly!
It was ok . I would of rather had food from the regular menu
Love this place but food quality has slipped. The descriptions on the menu sound great but what comes to the table seems pretty average.
Food was delicious. We were placed in a strange room at the back of the restaurant. Made it feel like we were in other peoples personal space.
Excellent food, great service. A great experience was had!
Great food and atmosphere. Excellent waitress! Will definitely come back!
The food was exceptional -- every detail including the fresh squeezed lemonade, to the not-too-sweet crumble, fresh cut fries, to the burger -- I haven't had that substantive burger in ages. I'd go back in a minute. My guest also remarked on value. Server was thoughtful and informed. Recommend it highly.
Everything was great we will be back!
Nice meal out! Prompt and friendly service, delicious food.
My Fish Tacos were not warm at all. If warmer, it would have been ok
The water was awful. What is this, tap water? Thank God I had ordered a Ginger Ale
The salad was no god. The cooked pear needed to be removed from the salad just to be eaten
Service was very good
Food was incredible - even the kids raves about it! And our waitress was so lovely and knowledgeable of the origins of the foods used in our meals.
Can’t wait to return!
Service was standard and the serving staff
refilled our water as appropriate and gave us advice on what to get.
Our prosciutto flatbread appetizer was excellent. But the main courses were a disappointment: the pan seared salmon was overcooked and the blackened chicken was too dry.
Thankfully, the dessert was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the sublime apple flavour in the apple créme brûle.
The table next to us was loud and it was difficult to talk to my date, but that's not their fault.
We celebrated a birthday with the Northern Lights Food Festival Menu. Unfortunately, this visit to Borealis was not on par with my previous experiences. The food was mostly good - starters of the Cornbread and the Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper Dip were both enjoyable, although the Cornbread could have used more than a slight smear of butter across the plate. The Chicken Curry Bowl was excellent, but the Toasted Barley Risotto was very disappointing, as it completely lacked flavour. The dessert helped to redeem the meal somewhat, as the Cherry Whiskey Bread Pudding was absolutely divine!
Despite the fact that we ordered all three courses at the outset, the service was notably slow, although the number of diners in the restaurant did not seem to justify the delay in between courses. It seemed like our orders for each course were only given to the kitchen after the previous course was finished. It was the first day for this special menu and if that is the service procedure for it, things will not flow smoothly on a busy weekend rather than the weekday evening we were dining.
Four of us (seniors) went for dinner Saturday at 6:30pm. I found the entrees on the main menu to be kind of esoteric (in my view) but they had a smaller yellow menu with more typical items, and less expensive.
I had the Beef dip, about $16. The fries and the dip were fine but the meat had some white cream on it. Mayo with a bit of horseradish?? Anyway, why would they put that on beef that is intended to be dipped? It was OK, just OK.
My friend ordered the fish and chips $20, but it was pickerel and he decided he did not like that fish. His wife ate some of it and said it was fine. The ladies each ordered the Quinoa bowl, no meat, and both said it was good BUT both left most of their quinoa on the plate when they were finished. ($20: quinoa + lentils, ginger, sweet potato, onion, apple, mushrooms, kale, chimichurri... that is food??)
A beautiful date night and preset New Years Menu. Food was amazing as usual
Excellent New Years dinner!
New Years Menu was exceptional! Many options and flavours for all tastes!
We enjoyed ourselves very much. Food was excellent and great value. We have been to Borealis many times and will continue to go.
Menu doesn't have options for everyone only foodies. Menu description didn't accurately reflect the food I received. Very expensive for the average person.
Server was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was great in all ways. It could benefit from increased quantity.
I had an awesome dinner at Borealis with friends. We shared the very delicious cornbread and I had the fried chicken special. We also had the red wine sangria. The food and service were great. I will be back!
New server forgot a few things, but overall was ok.
We had an excellent meal at Borealis. Great selection of dishes with choices for vegetarians.
Salmon was over cooked and parsnips were so hard you couldn’t get a fork in them. What it was swimming in was also not so great! Not sure why it was such a highly recommended restaurant. I woyldn’t Bother with it again.
Excellent, lots of laughs our waitress had a great many jokes that kept it interesting. We will be back!
The food was very good but beyond that, it's not much of an "experience" for the price. It feels very roadhouse-like but with no music/ambience.
Food was good but not exceptional. Appetizers were very tasty. Mains were fine but somewhat bland. It’s a fine place for a dinner out, but not great. Would probably not go here again unless there was nothing else available.
I was really disappointed in Borealis. Myself and my boyfriend are regulars at borealis. We decided to go there for a birthday dinner, when our food came it was cold and seemed to have sat out for too long. The service was quite slow, it was busy but we have been for dinner multiple times during the peak hours and have not had this low quality of service. It was disappointing when we choose Borealis for a birthday dinner and in turn received a poor quality of service and food. Hope it was just an off night, we love this restaurant normally.
Tamara provided fantastic service. 2 for 1 appies + $6 wine on Mondays, found on OT! Prosciutto + arugula flat bread with aioli was yummy.
Everything was great about our dinner. We waited about five minutes for our table, were seated in a lovely area with a wine bottle wall. The server was very personable and knowledgeable. Food was excellent, we had a bottle of wine, ploughman platter and a flat bread. Definitely will be back!
Make sure you follow your servers suggestion. I pointed to the "bowl" I wanted (chicken and sausage) and she suggested a different one. I persisted with mine and it was truly awful.
Wonderful for a special night out with family. Amazing food and drinks!
