Bow Valley Ranch is wonderful for a relaxing and pleasant lunch or dinner! We love it!
Excellent dining, kind, friendly service, well cared for historical building.
Excellent as always but a bit noisy in the main dining room.
It was a bit loud that night we went due to a wedding in the main dining room but otherwise it was fantastic and we plan to attend again in the near future. The food was amazing.
Great anniversary dinner
Excellent food and the service (Alec and team) was outstanding!!!!
It is time Alberta Restaurants got realistic about tips. I retired over 10 years ago and since then my pension has increased by less than 22%. Restaurant workers pay will have gone up as of Oct. 1st by over 160%!! in the same period. When I retired a 12% tip was standard and 15% was an excellent tip.
Prices have had to rise to pay increased wage and other costs and have at least doubled so a meal costing $75. when I retired would have had a $9.00 to $11.25 tip the same meal will now cost at least $150 and an expected tip (options on machine 18%, 20%, 25%) of $27.00 to $37.50) compared to my increased ability to pay based on increase in pension of $11.00 to $13.75. Quit trying to shame me with options of 18% or above or I will have to stop tipping all together to get the cost of occasionally dining out to a cost consistent with how much my ability to pay has increased since I retired.
Why make a reservation through your company, when it is not honoured
Always a favourite and never disappoints. Our family regularly chooses The Bow Valley Ranch for special lunches and dinners. Services is always attentive but nowt intrusive. Thank you for making my friend's birthday special.
disappointing this time.....When the soup arrived it was luke warm so we had to send it back. I ordered the steak but it was tough so I had to send it back. The second steak was much better. My friend had the beef short rib sandwich which was very messy to eat with your hands. It had way too much creamy coleslaw on it making it very difficult to eat with out getting your hands very messy. My friend said she was very disappointed with her meal. On a positive note the wine I chose was very good but expensive. $14.00 for a 6 ounce glass. The service was pretty good.
We went to the Ranche for a business meeting today and had a fantastic experience. I enjoyed their wild game burger - one of the best burgers I have ever had, I should say. My colleague is vegan and she loved the vegetarian bowl that they adjusted for her dietary restrictions. Great service!
I think the management in the restaurant can improve greatly. Food was good but portion size for price was pit of proportion.
Nothing especial for my birthday. That was disappointing.
Another great experience. We brought our daughter to celebrate her birthday ( first time for her) Our server, Ramesh, was fabulous. He gave us a brief history of The Ranche building and area and made sure our lunch was a special. The food was fabulous too.
Our waitress karly was lovely and attentive to our needs and our chosen meals perfectly served. Local and fresh ingredients were perfect. The acoustics are terrible though. Very hard to have a conversation with our friends and the room temperature was a bit on the cool side.
Overall, it was a good experience. I would have liked to be informed of the wedding that was taking place as it was quite loud.
Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant defines Fine Dining. The atmosphere makes for the perfect venue for an intimate dinner for two or a wedding. The staff are courteous , friendly and are there to ensure a positive experience you'll remember. The food was on point. From the time your meal reaches the table to the very last bite, you'll enjoy every minute of it. Complements to the Chef, the presentation of each dish were of five-star-caliber. Highly recommend booking if you are looking for an experience to remember.
Disappointed.... went to the Ranch to celebrate our first anniversary. Complying with dress code I wore a suit and my wife an elegant white evening gown. Took a nice seat in the evening sun on the patio. A wedding was going on on the Ranch grounds. As the waiter attending the table approached he became very concerned with my wife's dress. Apparently the Ranch guarantees a wedding party that only one bride will be in attendance on there wedding night. Understandable. Since my wife was wearing an off white evening dress (not a wedding dress!) they asked us to move to the opposite shaded side of the patio explaining the policy. This became such an issue that my wife was afraid of going to the bathroom as not to create an issue with staff. Meanwhile other patrons wearing board shirts and t shirts were escorted to the seats we were asked to vacate (not much of a dress code). Very disappointed! Will not be back and will inform our friends of our experience. Ambiance was great and food was quite nice but will not tolerate how the Ranch tested us. Ruined our night. Not impressed at all.
Went for lunch/brunch with family and service was very good, friendly and efficient. Will always recommend this little place for brunch/dinner - Very quaint and cozy
The dining room is spectacular in its historic setting, although we sat outside on a beautiful evening. Three of our group had lamb and I had the salmon daily special. All of the food was as good as we have had anywhere in Calgary. The veggies were crisp as were the potatoes. The doneness level of the meat was perfect (compliments to the chef). I had oysters before dinner and the rest had the tomato soup, all of which we found excellent. The wine list is huge with a good range of pricing. We had the house Pinot Noir which our waiter recommended and it was excellent.
The service was a wee bit slow but we were enjoying a lovely warm Calgary evening so didn't mind. When it did cool off later the staff brought out shawls for us. We haven't been to the Ranche in a long time and were reminded of how good a restaurant it is and how it is well worth the bit of a drive to get there. It will be high on our list to return to.
We have been here several times and they never disappoint. Great selection of food and wine. We always try something new and always enjoy. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Had a fantastic evening here with my partner. We had been waiting for a night out together for a long time and all the staff and particularly our server Marten did not disappoint - service and food were impeccable. We were given the utmost attention, respect and advice about the food and hats off to Marten for being an excellent host.
At the end of the evening he also offered to take our picture outside, showing his prowess at knowing the best spots for a photo.
Thank you all for a wonderful evening, you will be seeing us again!
Possibly my palate is not sophisticated enough but I expected more 'food" for what I got. Probably should have inquired of our server who was very attentive what to expect.
What food we received was exquisitely prepared but the portions were lacking.
Had not been there for a long time. Went for a birthday. Sat on the deck. The service was really delightful, the food better than ever and the ambiance simply enchanting. We will be back soon for sure.
The food was exceptional as was the atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and good at their job. Will definitely go
back. One small note , we felt rushed through our meal which was frustrating. We were celebrating our 25th and were enjoying each other’s company. Seemed the server was not giving us space to enjoy our meal at our pace. Other than that it was a
wonderful dinner out.
Went for lunch. it was quite busy but service was OK. Salad appetizer was great. I had the steak and it was done as requested. Wife had the Salmon and she quite enjoyed it.
Great brunch with some friends! The patio offered some great views of the park and the menu had plenty of options.
Service was attentive and my coffee was always filled! Will be back for dinner soon!
Outstanding service, outstanding food, a real treat!
We brought my California cousins for Sunday brunch and they were delighted with the total experience! The weather allowed us to enjoy a delicious meal outdoors on the expansive porch. Our server offered us blankets as the day was sunny but cool. Great service - attentive without being intrusive. And the view of the park is spectacular! The house is set far enough back from the path that cyclists and walkers form part of the backdrop. A perfect day topped off by a server’s generous offer to take our photo as we were leaving!
Food was only mediocre for a quite expensive Sunday brunch. Wheelchair access is somewhat difficult, wheelchair ramp is quite tilted. Single wheelchair bathroom was out of service with no alternative. Servers were quite attentive but we didn’t have a designated server who we knew to direct inquiries to, as such we felt inundated by overly frequent inquiries about our meal and beverages from the staff. Food was subpar for the $20 plus per person for breakfast. I expected exceptional and would be hard pressed to say it was ok. Very disappointed given the reviews we read online.
We had a lovely brunch. The food and the service is always very good, and the atmosphere is lovely. I have a new gluten intolerance and they were both insightful and helpful in providing an excellent meal for me to enjoy.
This was our first visit to Bow Valley Ranche and we were very impressed. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel special. The food and service were excellent and our dessert plate was decorated with an anniversary message. As we were leaving a team member offered to take a picture of us by the pretty garden in front. It was a wonderful evening and we are looking forward to going back.
Wanted a nice quiet lunch to celebrate my wife’s birthday.
Got stuffed in the middle of the big room - told only 3 servers on.
Asked for beers on draft - was told to read the list.
Steak undercooked - asked for medium-well, got medium-rare.
Nobody came to ask how meal was - otherwise would have sent it back.
If we’d have wanted to be seated next to a table of 10 - we would have gone to the pub.
We dined here for the first time for brunch. It was lovely atmosphere, gorgeous location, good food, and good service. I would love to return on a warmer day/night to sit on the front porch, that would be fantastic!
Went for our anniversary, and we absolutely loved it! Everything about this place is fantastic.
We were celebrating a birthday that included great food and service. We enjoyed the evening at a leisurely pace and never once felt rushed or delayed in eating our food. Terrific staff with Martin in complete control as out waiter. Recommend for a great evening and a special event. Worth the drive.
We really love going here for birthdays! Love the ambiance. The food is excellent... I had the 3 course lunch salmon... delicious!
The Ranche is always our to go place when my husband and I want to indulge in a unique fine dining experience. The servers are very professional and polite and they will do everything to accommodate your special experience. Photos in front of the house included.
When we got there we asked to sit outside because it’s so beautiful on the patio and they were very accommodating. They told us we could move inside if it got chilly and gave us blankets . The service was exceptional right down to the bus boy . The food never disappoints here . Highly recommend .
What a wonderful location to catch up with friends! The food and service were spectacular. Made us feel so special :) I would highly recommend for special occasions or date night. Will be back!
