For decades Brownes has been a feature of the Toronto dining scene. It has always delivered good food, capable service and wines that were well pared to the meals. I would never hesitate to bring someone from another "big" city to Brownes for dinner. Best of all; they are open Sundays!

Brownes is a great restaurant with great food and great service. We have been there twice for Mother’s Day, Brunch and Dinner. Other times for dinner. Try it out. The best Tiramisu!

While the menu was short for lunch, it was sufficiently varied that each of the four, attending in a group to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of us, had different appetizers, main courses and desserts that each found excellent. Service was both prompt and unobtrusive, and helpful with one of the attendees using a walker. Service was not rushed so that we spent over two hours at lunch before asking for the bill. . An excellent experience for all.

Noise level was very high because the restaurant was packed. Difficult to hear conversation. Also, room temperature was quite warm for the same reasons, no doubt. Everything else was excellent as usual.

This old haunt deserves recognition(but probably doesn't need it). For over 40 years Brownes has been serving the Summerhill-Rosedale Neighborhoods and probably many lucky visitors from around. Streetwise it is understated, however when you slip behind the front doors that's when the magic happens. Like a Manhattan restaurant where the patrons already know why they are here; Brownes is a Toronto favorite of our family. The staff are all eager to help and very positive. The open kitchen allows the scents of the evening's special to waft through the restaurant. The kitchen is curious, with my wife and I always asking "What spice was that?" See yah again soon! Colm

Disappointing. We went with another couple on our recommendation and we’re so disappointed and embarrassed. While the food was fine and decent value for Winterliscious, our table was disappointing (we had made a reservation and when we arrived, the restaurant was quite full and we were told to “sit wherever we want”. We waited for 15 min before even being acknowledged. We had to call for the waiter after dinner for coffee, we had waited so long. We are not fussy diners and appreciated busy restaurants, but overall there seemed to be very little effort, perhaps oblivious to our neglect.

We had a nice experience at Brownes Bistro. Friends and I went for Winterlicious, and were pleased with the prix fix menu offerings. I had the Winter salad, with slices of apple, walnuts, red onion on a bed of arugula, followed by flank steak and frites. I ended the meal with a dessert of brownie with vanilla ice cream; all were delicious and I look forward to my next meal at this cozy mid-town bistro.
