Having been twice before very disappointed with the food this time. Pastry hard and sponge cakes very dry. Not sure if down to it being end of afternoon tea service before evening meals. It will not stop me going again when visiting the area but was disappointed on this occasion. Staff friendly and apologetic when mention my disappointment. Nice atmosphere.

Lovely place, unfortunately we waited for 30 minutes to be served drinks and had to wait for missing elements of the afternoon tea for another 20 minutes, they were brought after asking.

Fantastic food, I can certainly recommend the prawn curry. The 3 course meal + drink for £31 proved an absolute bargain. The young lady (not sure what her name was) who looked after us was very pleasant indeed. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

We were disappointed with the meals we had, the chicken & ham pie was lacking in flavour although the gravy helped and the vegetables were tasty. The apple and ginger dessert was good but the chocolate Black Forest roulade was not good at all couldn’t eat most of it, didn’t think the blackberries went with it , but that’s a matter of taste. It was also quite cold in the restaurant. The staff were friendly but slow for an early evening . We won’t be returning for dinner, better for coffee and cake.

A great place all round. Staff lovely, patient and obliging. Food delicious and ambience perfect. Particularly like the fact they keep service going between 4-6 when a lot of places are closed or don’t offer food. Thank you for the golden ticket!

Generous portion sizes and delicious. Service was excellent and they were very accommodating as my husband wanted fish fingers as a main, which were part of the grazing meal, and they offered him the kids fish finger meal as a main.

First time here and absolutely loved everything about it from start to finish! Perfect service, great amount of food, great prices. I feel the assembly house has gone down hill in the last couple of years and this visit to byfords just confirms to me that it’s my absolute new favourite go to afternoon tea. I will recommend to everyone!!!

Really good quality food, both as to preparation and source, service was friendly and very responsive and ambience was a welcome treat being clean, homely and quirky at the same time and price was very reasonable considering the above - would definitely return and plan to do so next time we are in Holt. Well done on providing a service that hits the spot on all criteria

We had such lovely meal at Byfords. Grazing plates and sharing platters were delicious and plentiful - we couldn't actually finish it all! Good range of very decent wine at reasonable price. The lady that served us was great - really cant fault anything! Thanks.

We always choose Byfords when we drive down to Norfolk for the weekend, but we're extremely disappointed on this occasion. None of the regular staff were there, this seemed a bit strange. The service was utterly appalling. It took 15 minutes to take our drinks order, and we had to get up to find a waitress to order another drink, and again for the bill. Not sure what's going on, but the service is letting you down.

Genuinely amazing stay, surrounded by lovely people in a great environment. The hosts couldn’t do enough to please us. The food is lovely - A varied menu and everything we had was cooked perfectly, and served with a smile. This was the same for both breakfast and dinner. We will be returning early in the new year. A great place to escape to as a couple.

We often have lunch or afternoon tea but this was our first evening meal and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was good, hot and homemade. The pastry on my chicken pie was crumbly and really short, just how it should be, with lovely gravy and green veg. The kedgeree was really tasty with lots of fish and a perfectly poached egg. Only two niggles; my pineapple pavlova should have been served with coconut gelato (my favourite and the reason I ordered that particular pudding) but came with vanilla instead (did the chef think I wouldn’t notice???) and the actual restaurant was cold with no wood fire lit and no radiators turned on. We were not the only ones pulling scarfs tight and trying to stay warm.
