veal top round, pounded thin, breaded, pan fried, choice of two sides
Awesome food, staff attentive as always. Loved the venison!
What a cute and quaint date spot. The food and drinks were just what we were looking for! The servers / managers were friendly and attentive. We will be back!
Great food and service! Wiener Schnitzel and beer were very good.
beautiful, charming, quality food. Warm seating outside
Maybe it was just an off day. But our waiter was fairly nonexistent. I had to ask another waiter for bread. when it came there was no butter. She said she would be right back with it but she never came back. The person delivering drinks eventually brought butter by this time our Entrées had come. The food was mediocre at best. Then when we finished our main course we order dessert which took about 20 minutes to come. We usually have outstanding service and food from Café Berlin. I’m not sure what happened. Maybe short staffed because of COVID. I give them a pass this time and hope the experience is worth the money next time. Said
Cafe Berlin is an incredible experience because of the staff, the food, the ambience and the outstanding caring and compassion by the owners. You are not customers to them, but family. They want you to have a fun filled and relaxing time there with your guests. I am so grateful to be able to have this wonderful experience time and time again!
Service and food were very good and the Apple Strudel was excellent. I recommend it.
We had forgotten how good this place is! My only suggestion for outdoor dining (especially as it starts getting dark quite early) is that it is very dimly lit and can be difficult to see your food. Even some pixie lights would help.
We made reservations for anniversary, but were very disappointed. Pre- and during Covid, we came for this special occasion, were seated at an intimate window, were given a little treat to honor our anniversary. This year, 2021, everything has changed. We were put a table surround by lots of people, the wait staff barely had time to take our order, and finally no acknowledgement of our special occasion.
This place may be good for a bite when you want your basic German fair, but it isn't definitely worth reserving for any occasion. Just eat and leave. Very sad.
One of my favorite spots in D.C. Strongly recommend!
Lots of mushroom gravy on the jaeger schnitzel - delicious!
Food was delicious, inexpensive, and a large enough quantity for a second meal at home. We had sauerbraten and goulash. The service was adequate, but barely. Server disappeared for long periods. The indoor English basement area where we sat is very spartan and not welcoming.
Delicious as always. Authentic German cuisine. Disappointed that they were out of Kartoffelknödeln but still... amazing.
Seated indoor on time. Room decor bland and unimpressive. No bread offered (Differently from any restaurant in Germany). Table left barren (i.e. no napkins or silverware) until food delivered, while we already had drinks (beers). Rapid ordering, no explanation or recommendation on menu items ot daily specials. Relatively extensive menu. Suggested to pre-order Strudel dessert due to preparation time. Out of pork schnitzel so I had to get classic veal one. Rather greasy but not bad. Wait that felt too long, considering that we did not have appetizers.
I recommend it only for who is on a major crave for German food. Not much else to commend the venue
Beautiful beer garden and delicious contemporary German cuisine.
Went for the German Sunday Brunch and Oktoberfest band (The Lost Lederhosen) all were great. Food is as good as it gets without flying to Germany. Music was fun and entertaining and the staff were great. Beautiful setting in a lovely fall Sunday in Capital Hill. Charming little piece of Germany right in DC
Cafe Berlin is charming and friendly. First time to the Octoberfest Brunch. Only reason I didn't give it a full 5 across the board is because of the table by the bathrooms and the order of sauerkraut balls was chincy. 3 balls for $8? Had I known you only got 3 of them, I would not have ordered. $2.66 per little sauerkraut ball is silly. Also, amount of sauerkraut on the breakfast platter was also on the skimpy side. Beer was great Music was great. Service was friendly.
Make a reservation! Worth planning ahead as their menu is from scratch and seasonal.
Great food and service with a superb German band performing for Octoberfest
We love cafe berlin! Such great food and a lovely outdoor dining experience.
Once again, great suggestions and service from Tim.
The Paulaner Octoberfest Tim suggested was delicious, and paired well with the green salad, figs and strong white cheese.
The veal with sauerkraut and cream sauce was absolutely delicious, another great suggestion from Tim.
Great suggestions from Tim, great advice, great service.
I'll be back soon.
Great food and great service! The staff are so friendly and very attentive. The food was spectacular. We had the seasonal salad and the wurstfeast, and we left very satisfied.
Had a great meal with extended family on the patio, thanks to our patient server for answering tricky GF questions. Potato pancakes , stuffed veal and trout were excellent. Make the effort to order ahead on the apple strudel and you won’t be disappointed.
Get there early for the sauerbraten. We had a late resevation and they were out. I had a backup plan of the wurst fest - 5 different sausages. I was gonna order the 1/2 portion but the waiter talked me into the whole. I had enough leftovers to make 2 sandwiches the next day. The kraut and red cabbage were excellent. We also had liter steins which is a must for any german restaurant. Felt like I was at an authentic german restaurant.
Authentic German and the strudel was amazing!
One of my favorite places on Capitol Hill Great staff, excellent food, fabulous outside terrace and fun bar Laid back and worth it.
We love Cafe Berlin, the beers are always delicious as is the food. This visit we were able to get a dish from the Oktoberfest, it was perfect! We are from out of town but whenever we visit DC we make a point of stopping in.
From the amazing beers to the delicious dishes, Cafe Berlin continues to be a Capitol Hill neighborhood gem!
Great, attentive but not rushed service. Recommendation from waiter of freshly baked Apple strudel well worth the wait!
Great Oktoberfest sausage plate! The half-portion size is enough by itself to fill you up.
If you are looking for awesome German food in DC, this is the place!
Pretzels are ok, rest of the food is not authentic at all. The potato pancakes were barely edible. After living in Germany for years I so much wanted to love this place but it was very disappointing.
As always, the food at Cafe Berlin was terrific and the service was excellent. The waiter was very attentive but not overly so.
Another fantastic Cafe Berlin October fest dinner!
Superb seasonal German food as well as the classics. The portions are generous and the ingredients fresh. Appreciate the menu indicates if it is a dish taking extra prep. Friendly waitstaff and owners usually on-site.
The service and food were wonderful. Authentic German food and beer. Highly recommend! We will definitely be back.
Great place to soak up some German gemutlichkeit. The staff are lovely and were very patient and kind with our very elderly guest. We loved the music, food and beer and will be back!!
Great food, great atmosphere. Best place in DC for authentic German dining experience
I understand that prices have to go up sometimes. But not sure it's a good idea to increase the price of the Wiener Schnitzel by $5 and make it smaller at the same time. Also unfortunately the breading was burned. I'm disappointed since I love Cafe Berlin.
Dinner and beer options are really good - difficult to choose! Everything was delicious; service excellent; we went early and sat outdoors-the perfect dining experience. Highly recommended!
