The drinks and food were delicious! Our waiter was delightful! Love Café Chianti!
1. The first meal to comment on was the crab ravioli. Not fresh tasting and extremely fishy. I was told that it was a crowd pleaser when I commented . I was offended after coming here for a number of years. While the bacon in the Caesar salad was tasty there was way too much of it as though it was compensating for a bland vinaigrette. Very disappointing for my favourite restaurant.
2. Steak was good but the jus was incredibly salty and gloppy. Once my favourite dish.
3. Seafood linguine - server described it as lightly spiced. My father tried to wipe it off as it was too much for him to be able to taste the seafood.
Cafe Chianti was a fabulous venue and we had a wonderful evening. Our server was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly; he struck the balance between being attentive but not intrusive. The food was exceptional with one of my friends saying that she had the best pasta she had ever eaten. Highly recommended!
Lovely lace. Elegant. Fabulous service...food was mostly delicious but I wasn’t crazy about the sauce on the lasagne. Being Italian, sauce is everything. The butternut squash ravioli was delicious and the Aramco I. And beat salad and chocolate dessert. Wine was good but there could be a better wine list.
Absolutely amazing food, service was fast (almost to fast!!!). Great place would definitely go back.
The service and food was excellent as always. One of the best restaurants in the city.
We were very pleased with the service and the food at this restaurant, both were of excellent quality.
Everything was very enjoyable
The food our waiter was very good
Food was delicious
The proteins were impeccable, the vegetables were so al dente they were more like crudite. The cheesecake was to die for.
I live out of town and I booked this venue for Mother’s Day so the rest of the family could go out for a nice meal. Everyone loved the food. Even the family’s toughest food critic - my mom! Thank you for making it a special Mother’s Day!
2nd time here in last 5 years. From Toronto so always try to make thee trip here.
My wife and I hadn't been back to Cafe Chianti for a couple of years. At that time it was a very nice restaurant with an international menu, good food. Today it is very definitely Italian, and very good. We had the best meal we have had in Halifax in recent memory. I can wholeheartedly recommend this for a great dinner experience.
The Lobster ravioli was delish-I could have eaten another plate of that. Make sure there is bread on the table so you can soak up the leftover sauce!!
The scallops on the bed of risotto were huge!!!!
Our server was so knowledgeable-we asked her for suggestions and all four of us were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our evening!
Overall very good. Service, food, ambiance the whole night was more extremely pleasant.
We were in the back room - atmosphere not so great back there would have preferred a seat in the main dining room but understand as they were extremely busy,
A great choice in downtown Halifax. Not-to-difficult street parking, excellent service and really great food
My meal (special strip specia), was tender and excellently cooked, Very little fat to cut off. My wife's on the other hand, same special, was way too much fat and tasted like cardboard. Waiter was excellent as was the escargot, mussels and dessert. I found out too late or you would have heard about her experience before we left. We have been going to your restaurant since back in the 60's at the location around the corner.

As we have come to know Cafe Chianti over many years, one thing for sure is our expectations are met and exceeded. The food is excellent as is the service and atmosphere. Highly recommend Cafe Chianti with hesitation. Dean & Kim
We had a very enjoyable outing. Great food and great service. Will be returning.
Great night out. Lots of great menu options including many GF options. Will be returning for sure!
An outstanding dinner with excellent food and service. We will be back!
The food was not very good. The pre dinner bread was hard and not fresh. The calamari was not very good as were the main courses. Overall quite dissapointing.
Great ambience, wonderful service and excellent food.
Excellent food served by professionals in a pleasant atmosphere.
Well worth visiting for special celebrations.
I took my 13 year old daughter for a special jaunt to Halifax and I must say that our dinner at the Cafe Chianti was the highlight of our weekend. The moment we arrived we received a genuine welcome and the service the entire evening was warm and professional. Add to that the fact that the food was amazing and the lighting, table settings and decor created a perfect atmosphere. My 13 year loves sorbet and considers herself a sorbet connoisseur and she said it was the absolute best she's ever had. We look forward to returning!
Have been to Cafe Chianti a few times and never had any issues. This visit we sent the calamari (not fresh) and creme brule (grainy texture like pudding) back. The main course was passable but not overly exciting. The service was quick efficient and the the waiter looked after our concerns without hesitation. Found out main chef was on vacation so we will return and give them a chance for redemption.
The service was lovely and the food was delicious. I’ll be back!
It was very good. I always like it there. They were busy this evening & they were a bit slow, but we didn't mind. We weren't in a hurry.
We were seen to promptly, even with a very large group arriving just before us. Our server was professional, friendly and helpful. He was attentive to our needs without hovering. The food was excellent - we all had very different main dishes. The only slight disappointment I had was that the sauce for the risotto balls was not as good as I remember it from two years ago. A small, first-world problem for me indeed. The prices are in line with upscale Italian restaurants. We will return.
It took a while to place our order but the service was excellent overall.
We went for dinner and as always enjoyed it immensely. Scott waited on us and service was impeccable. The food was delicious and lots of choice. We will be back!
Cafe Chianti hides its charms from the outside. The restaurant is in a modern building with a relatively plain street facade, but step inside and it feels like a classical Italy. The decor is a tad heavy but, again, classic, with plenty of space between tables for intimate conversation. There are some delights on the menu, too. Arancini balls are a favourite, as is the asparagus wrapped in proscuitio, with a fried egg! Sounds strange but it is delightfully flavourful. We skipped the pizza/pasta options and went with the seafood crepe and the duck. I wasn't wild about the mushroom rissotto but that's a personal thing - my wife loved it. Desserts were both lemony and light - cheesecake and panna cotta. And to make the evening even better, we had used Groupon to get a fantastic bargain on the meal. Well worth it for a lovely date night.
Well worth the drive and the service was excellent.
The gluten free minestrone soup was excellent. It was a nice treat as I have not had minestrone soup in quite a while being Celiac. I ordered the lamb shank entree for dinner, gluten free. I was told the sauce had gluten in it when it was delivered to the table (even though it was marked as gluten free in the menu) and that the chef had prepared a gluten free sauce for me instead. The sauce was a very dark brown, almost black which made the meal look very unappealing. The lamb was not very tender and the sauce creates an overall unpleasant taste to the entire meal. I was disappointed with this as it was my first time here and for my birthday at that and the rest of my table seemed to enjoy their meals greatly.
I chalk it up to ordering the wrong thing but the meal has no where to go but up in my opinion.
First time at Cafe Chianti, for our group of four. It was a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere. Service was great, thank you Scott. The food was delicious. We all had a different starter, main and dessert everything was of excellent standard.I look forward to our next trip to Halifax so we can visit again.
Service was fine. Food was average. My wife’s fish was overcooked and my pizza was bland. Wine list by the glass was just ok. Overall, there are lots of other options to choose from in Halifax.
Great food and great atmosphere. The staff are attentive. Try the shrimp appetizer- it was amazing!
Our server was great.....very professional and friendly at the same time. Chicken under a Brick was fabulous. Only weak part was the Caesar salad......not creamy or very much dressing and could not taste any anchovies.
Café Chianti's ambiance is lovely, service is above average and food is always fabulous!
Food was delicious and service was professional ! Eaten there before; love the place !
