Amazing food, ambiance and service!
Live piano music completes the experience.
To be honest I was quite disappointed with the food given the high ratings. It was very flavourless and the quality of the meats was cheap. The prices were high for the food. I've had better at family chain restaurants. The service was great only because we were the only people in the restaurant for the first 30 mins (7:30 pm on a Saturday night) and even after that another two tables were occupied. I also noticed a funky smell in the restaurant and there floor by our table was dirty. Overall I would not go back.
Great service. Nice table on the patio. We could still hear a bit of live music which was great. Good lamb, ravioli, and bolognese.
A cozy, quiet place in a great location at Robson and Thurlow. The food and wine selection was perfect (focusing mainly on Italian choices, of course) and the service attentive but discreet. We liked the option of the outside seating area as well. Despite the cozy size of the location we felt very comfortable with the social distancing protocols during the pandemic. Will definitely be back again.
We live in the West End, with a lot of choice in nearby restaurants. Overall, il Nido has always been one of our favourites. Especially in the warmer weather when the courtyard is open.
The food and services is so wonderful !!!! Will visit again for sure !!!
I would recommend this spot, because of the combination of live music featured on the weekends in an ambiance for jazz piano and flute with surprisingly delightful acoustics. I will say kindly that the kitchen can do much to up its game, but otherwise, the bar service was friendly and efficient and for the ambiance for live music and a glass of wine, this place is a hidden jewel in Vancouver. !
Unique place in VANCOUVER. Superb food ,services, music and cosy ambiance
We went for a birthday dinner - 1) salami, bread, oil were fresh and rich. 2) Wagu was amazingly delicious, 3) linguini was packed with the sweetness of the seafood. Well-decorated place with lived music on Friday. We had a very enjoyable night. Will visit again.
Patio is cute. Food was a little dry but no real complaints
The service and food was excellent. We ate indoors and had a great table in the corner. There was a piano player and singer which was nice to begin with but then the piano player became a little too enthusiastic and was a little too loud which made it difficult to hear each other. But other than that we really enjoyed the food and service.
A very quaint spot off Robson. Outdoor patio is nicely secluded.
We asked for a wine recommendation which we enjoyed very much.
Meatballs appetizer was good and nice to get four for the 2 of us to share. Delicious
We ordered lasagna and Penne bolognese ... both entrees were an appropriate size and delicious.
Dessert was a chocolate cake and again it didn’t disappoint.
Overall very good and would not hesitate to go again when in the Area or recommend to a friend.
Very attentive service. We had Oslo bucco and spaghetti bolognese. Both beautiful dishes! Loved the outdoor patio, even if surrounding a/c’s were running. Will definitely come back!
Fabulous food, pleasant atmosphere, caring & thorough service, great gluten free options. For real Italian dining, this is a gem. Can’t wait to return!
Covid respectful. I want carbonara, which wasn’t on the menu and the chef made it for me, using guancile, instead of pan sets- a real bonus.
My guest said the meatballs are fab.
How these guys keep it up when they have an imposed occupancy limit is beyond me. The economics are frightening.
It was good not to cook, for a change.
Very well-situated off a quiet corner of a busy street. They have a nice, quiet patio area that made us feel very safe dining during the pandemic. The food was outstanding; everything perfectly prepared. The service was attentive and courteous, not hurried or rushed, but always there when needed. We will definitely return.
We were told before making the reservation that the construction next door had now been taking indoors and therefore the noise would not be a problem. Unfortunately, the noise was quite unbearable. I have always enjoyed dining at Il Nido but did not know that the management had changed. In my opinion the food was not quite up to previous standards.
I had wanted to come to this place for years. It is a hideaway in the courtyard of a brick Manhattan style apartment building ( oh so rare in city of steel and glass), and I love the fact that's been there a long time and isn't annoyingly trendy.
We ate on the patio in the courtyard and it was great!
The food was very tasty, and wine pairings were well-matched with our dishes. The tiramisu and espresso to end the feast, were excellent!
The server was friendly and attentive.
We were able to sit back, enjoy the aperitifs, while soaking in the quiet old style ambience of this little gem.
Lots of flies buzzing around. Absolutely dead on a Friday night. Yes it’s corona but it was date night so kinda boring. Old decor. We recommend Nook, Giardino, Lupo and La Tarazza instead given the price point. Do something about your flies!!
Birthday Dinner, food was amazing and very tasty! Service was exceptional as well :)
I wanted a restaurant that would be good for catching up with an old friend and Cafe il Nido was perfect. We were seated in a corner. Ambiance was classy and chill. Our waiter and other staff were attentive and helpful and gave us all the time we needed to make our food and wine decisions. The food was good and portions appropriate.
I often take guests there fir special occasions. Never disappointed. Franco and Chico are the best.
Second time during Dine Out Vancouver and Il Nido never disappoints, reasonable prices, and excellent service, thank you so much Chico and Christine for your gracious and courteous service.
A disappointment. Service was mixed. One server was charming but replaced by someone who was less than enthusiastic to be serving. Restaurant half full yet we were required to order all three of our courses at once. Interior needs an upgrade. Tablecloths dark and dingy. We felt rushed and found ourselves back outside an hour and fifteen minutes later. Fortunately the food was good.
Excellent food, exceptional service. Franco consistently provides the best Italian cuisine in the city.
A hidden gem in prime downtown location. Never disappointed, great food and nice people around. Recommend for someone who wants authentic Italian tastes in a warm and quiet place. Delicious cocktails btw...
Great food and service. Will be back
Excellent as always, great service and Dine out menu with many options to choose from and the best is that is gluten free .
Had clients in town, came here Tuesday and they insisted we came here again on Thursday. Excellent food and service in a nice, relaxed quiet atmosphere. You have to try the pork chop!!
Fabulous food, great service well priced. Nice peaceful environment, highly recommended.
We celebrated two birthdays the night we went to Il Nido. Our group is constantly seeking the best Italian food in Vancouver and this place did not disappoint. The pappardelle came recommended by Chico, and it was delicious! So were all the meals at our table. Service was pleasant and prompt and I would definitely recommend Il Nido to anyone considering it.
Fantastic dinner as usual, Cafe Il Nido has been open for more than 30 years and despite that they always deliver consistency, quality and overall terrific service, thank you Franco and Christine
The restaurant was quiet - only one other table occupied when we arrived. They wanted to close early so they rushed us through our meal. Not a high end restaurant experience. Salad portion was extremely small for the price. Pasta was good but not amazing
A wonderful little tucked in treasure - amazing food and attentive service. Space could do with some updating but overall a quaint and cozy place. I highly recommend this restaurant !
Food is good quality, authentic Italian however service leaves a lot to be desired. Not sure if it’s a shortage of staff or just a “couldn’t care less” attitude amongst the employees. Slow, scowl in faces negatively impacts the enjoyment of the evening.
The food was excellent. I would highly recommend Café il Nido to for the food. But I have never had such rude service. We received several eye rolls from our waitress at any of the questions we asked. For things like asking for a lemon wedge with hot water. One of the people I was with couldn't decide between 2 dishes, so she asked for a recommendation, the waitress gave another eye roll and would not offer a suggestion. Since we had a table of seven people there was an automatic gratuity of 18% added to the bill, otherwise no tip would have been left. It's very hard for me to say if I would recommend this place overall because of the bad attitude of the waitress. I think I would have to try going there again (but not for awhile) to see if she still is just as rude or hopefully get a different server. But if I do go back and get the same bad attitude I would not return ever and would never recommend this place to anyone.
Great service, excellent wine suggestion, inventive pasta dish. Guest and I had a great time.
It was my mom’s birthday and we went here cuz it’s my favourite Italian restaurant in town! And they treated us a cute tiramisu bday cake at the very end! It was such a surprise💕💕 grateful
We had to go early for dinner as we were attending a symphony orchestra performance. Franco and the waiter could not have been more gracious. The food and service were outstanding.
