Cafe Routier, Bistro and Lounge, serving a three paneled menu format; Regional (a different region of the world every 8 weeks), Seasonal (locally sourced seasonal ingredients) and a specialty menu of classic Bistro fare. A 40 seat lounge serving 'small plates' and tapas adjoins the bar area. Ethos is important to us.

Reservations made online are for our dining room only. Our lounge does not require reservations and works on a first come/first serve approach, so please do not make a reservation if your intent is to sit in the lounge!

Nearby diners actually took Face time calls loudly. And their conversations were quite loud. Maybe too much To drink? The servers were lovely , good natured and attentive. The sauce on the meatloaf was unappetizing. The fried artichokes were a little chewy. The corn flan was such an odd texture. The duck breast and sauce was very good but the leg/thigh was overdone. The desserts were fantastic!! peach strawberry crisp !!! Turtle cake!!! Salad with walnuts and apples delicious! French fries and dipping sauce delicious!!

Wonderful meal in the dining room...we had the brussel sprouts as an app and they were amazing. Our friends shared the mussels and loved them. Steak frits was great (salad over salted) but other than that...really good. Service was ok, the server was fine but seemed annoyed with all his co workers, scolding the bus boy and complaining to the manager, etc. Seems like a hostile work environment. I felt bad for the young kids he was working with.

One of our favorite restaurants. The food is superb. It is plentiful, well presented and piping hot. Four of us had dinner there and we started in the bar with a drink before we headed into the dining room at our reservation time. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Once in the dining room, our waitress did an excellent job of getting our drinks to us as well as our food. Bread is served which is a great touch since many restaurants no longer serve complimentary bread. We had a veal chop dish, a cioppino type dish with octopus which you never get, a Korean beef dish and meatloaf as well as 2 salads which we shared. Everyone was very pleased with their meals and we all got a doggie bag to take home. We finished off with dessert and again, everyone was pleased. With the cost of going to the supermarket these days to purchase all the ingredients in these dishes, Cafe Routier is very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get.

The duck drumsticks were fantastic for a started. The Salmon entree was equally as good. I had the hanger steak, very flavorful as was the side of potato with cheese and other ingredients, not sure what they were but delicious. The servers were friendly and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu and wine list. Definitely going back!

I am really sad as I write this review. Before Covid, this was my favorite restaurant on the shoreline. Reliably excellent and creative dishes, beautifully prepared with a menu that included old standbys, regional cuisine and seasonal dishes. But Covid and the resultant economy have hollowed out this once fabulous place. We have been there 3 times during and post Covid; I talked my husband into taking me last night, hoping that it would have reverted to its former excellence. Such was not to be. The menu was fine, but my husband had a hard time finding anything that he really wanted to order. I love the Vesper cocktail and the arugula and endive salad, and both were as wonderful as I remembered. But alas, nothing else measured up. I am sure it is a challenging time for restaurateurs, these days; this restaurant isn't bad--but it is no longer exceptional.

We love Café Routier and have been patrons for many many years celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, casual get togethers…just about for everything. The food & service never disappoints however this time around while booking through Open Table, I had clearly noted and requested some sort of acknowledgment of our 17th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, there was none. Not with the table, not when the server took our picture and definitely not with dessert which I had specifically asked. Absolutely nothing. I was saddened and disappointed by this. I wondered if I had personally called the restaurant rather then book through Open Table if my wishes would’ve been fulfilled.

This is my favorite restaurant normally. The last two times we have been it’s been very different and I haven’t enjoyed the food. Such a shame I can only guess the chef has changed. Hope it gets back up to its normal standard.

Another great experience at the Cafe. Host was able to move us to a table where we could sit next to each other which was much appreciated! John is an excellent server and we loved everything we had, especially the roasted duck. Thank you!

Fabulous, inventive preparations and portions that will definitely satisfy. Cocktails - plum vodka for her and Pliny’s tonic (a spicy gin, a knew about but no longer in menu) Starters - fried oysters (good size with light crust over arugula and excellent sauce on side) for me and the most amazing tuna sashimi tacos for her (superb blend of flavors over small, flat tortillas - this dish is not to be missed!!!). She had large driver scallops each perched atop a crispy sun choke and set on lake of delicious tiny succotash - fantastic! I had the best duck ever (perfect cooking - ordered medium - crispy outside pink inside) with jalapeño peach sauce and corn fan. We shared a chocolate and nut item to finish - also a treat. Excellent service. Highly recommended.

The waitstaff is superb. The cooking is also superb but a bit too rich for my taste. A little more cuisine minceur would make for better choices. The salad was excellent. Given the style of cooking the chef does a superb job.

Outstanding. Service with Dan was excellent. We were a party of 7. All the appetizers and entrees came out in a timely fashion. Food was delicious. Thoughtfully prepared. And for a large party, the price was reasonable. We had a good time.

Cafe Routier has been a long established restaurant on the CT coast for many years. It's an exceptionally well run restaurant with an experienced, welcoming, and helpful wait staff. ... And the price is right! The restaurant is tough to beat ... try the Camp Trout and Profiteroles!

The scallop dish was phenomenal. That’s unfortunately where the wheels came off. We got the fritto misto which had whole prawns fried. Problem was they were not deveined or peeled, so it was unappetizing and not easy to eat. Then the signature trout dish had bones all in it, which isn’t something that anyone should be getting at a fine dining establishment with the high costs you pay at cafe routier. Overall could have been much better.

We arrived early but were seated right away. Our waiter was great, very helpful and informative and not at all intrusive. Food came quickly and was excellent. My wife and I suffer poor hearing but the atmosphere was quiet . Overall, a very nice experience. Much like the first time we came just before the pandemic
