Cafe Zola Ratings and Reviews
Cafe Zola has wonderful food although it can be slightly overpriced. Our waitress Claire was fantastic but the place was a little too crowded (it was restaurant week).
Went for restaurant week. Good was great...good value...enjoyed the evening and would go back
We went for Ann Arbor Restaurant Week. Once there, the Restaurant Week menu was completely different than what was posted online. The restaurant refused to honor restaurant week pricing for the online menu, even though they did carry those menu items.
Food and service were great, but we only had 6" separating us from tables on both sides and it was really distracting to have servers and customers try to squeeze through.
This was our first dining experience at Cafe Zola. The food was excellent, the servers were attentive and knowledgeable, and the ambiance was a pleasant mix of old and new. The restaurant is housed in an older building on the western fringe of downtown Ann Arbor. The original brick is visible throughout both rooms. The dining area is comfortable and cozy. My swordfish was moist and grilled to perfection while my salad was a savory combination of arugula, grilled pear and Stilton cheese. They make a tasty Moscow Mule there as well. We'll dine at Cafe Zola again!
One of my favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor! High quality, delicious meals in a warm, friendly environment! The tuna dish is amazing!!!!!!!
We dined on New Year's Eve and overall it was very good. We were seated right next to the door and steps leading into the dining area so we were very cramped and freezing! The service, though, was great and timely. Never had anything other than really great food here!
We went pre NYE and had a wonderful time. The staff did a great job on a very busy night!!!
Early New Year’s Eve menu was great. Busy and a bit chaotic as one might expect. One guest’s entree was delayed 20 min relative to others due to an order input glitch with no service recovery. Quality of entrees was excellent, some veg accompaniments were lukewarm.
We took the family for a birthday brunch. The food was WONDERFUL! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Zola's Cafe is a cozy restaurant, and it was full at the holiday time of year (as expected), so it was fairly noisy (as expected). That's OK. We had a table for 7, which had more seclusion than the Zola's on Washtenaw. Nice. The food was creative and delicious. Great. We didn't wait too long for the drinks and food. Nice. Overall: The restaurant is a nice place to take out-of-town visitors to eat at a trendy place in downtown Ann Arbor. By-the-way: The weather was +7 degrees F. So, we did not go looking for fairy doors after lunch. haha. We parked on the convenient flat lot across from Grizzly Peak.
Our waitress was admittedly training but the service was slow and disjointed. A far inferior wine was brought to the table in an attempt to substitute for what we ordered bc what we ordered was not available.
As for the food, the bread was great but the calamari was a tiny serving and a little bland. The mussels verde were great and the broth was so tasty i wish there was enough bread to sop up the entire bowl.
Lamb chops were perfectly cooked but a little one note. The harissa red snapper dish was a delicious showstopper.
Overall, the food was very good but the service was eh and it marred the overall experience.
A birthday brunch with out of town family, everyone enjoyed their meals
Great food every time. Service can be slow but food is so worth the wait
Christmas Eve Dinner
It has been 20+ years since we'd been to Cafe Zola - it had fallen off our radar. We had a very nice dinner with a lovely bottle of wine. It's back on our short list!
Delicious food! A nice variety of options to accommodate both food enthusiasts and less adventurous eaters.
We are lucky to have so many excellent restaurants in Ann Arbor and Zolas is definitely one of them. Although not inexpensive, the food is fantastic. My go to is to split an omelette (adore the Southwestern) which the kitchen will do! It cost $2.00 but you each get potatoes and toast so absolutely worth it. And we share a brandied cherry blintz...perfect savory sweet combo.
Cafe Zola is well known for their brunch, but we found their dinner menu and the experience top notch. Great standards on the regular menu, nice chef selections as specials. High quality ingredients and service. Highly personable staff with great recommendations.
We hadn’t been here for several years—don’t know why. We had a terrific evening! The Cafe is comfortable and casual with attentive waitstaff. Most importantly, our food was wonderful (swordfish, kale pasta, sausage pasta and crab cakes) with especially creative accompaniments. This is a great place!
I was very disappointed in my recent dinner here with friends. We ordered 5 dishes in total and only one was excellent. All of the others were average or mediocre. The kale pesto pasta was practically floating in olive oil. The service was excellent and the ambience very pleasant. However, the place is extremely noisy, making conversation just in a small group almost impossible. I recommend sticking with Cafe Zola for breakfast or lunch. Dinner is very expensive and sub par.
Good meal before going to the Jeff Daniels concert. Some of us had large plates and some small.
My wife and I went here for dinner prior to an event at The Ark. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our server was great, also attentive and helpful since this was our first visit. Food was very good and we enjoyed our meal. We would dine here agian.
Ambiance and food were fabulous!!!
We love Cafe Zola and every time we eat their the staff is warm and inviting and the food is wonderful!
Very pricey for what you get. The ambience was great but we spent a lot more than we wanted to with kids.
This place is second to none...great food, attentive-but-respectful service, nice decor and atmosphere. We love Cafe Zola!
We ordered the mussels as an appetizer, and they were both undercooked and lacked flavor. They were incredibly bland, and the broth broke due to what appeared to be excess water coming from the shells.
Additionally, the apple galette had an applesauce consistency and was over baked.
yummy and romantic
Cafe Zola is one of my go-to places in Ann Arbor, and I usually love it there. However, my most recent evening was ruined by a completely inept and disinterested server. It was a joke. She spoke in a whisper, did not know the menu, and ignored us after our entree' was served, on a Wed. night when the restaurant was practically empty. I know that many restaurants in downtown A2 intensively train their servers and they are professional. Cafe Zola needs to step it up in this regard. I am not a needy customer but this was ridiculous.
Hard to put into words how bad the service was. I made a reservation for 8 people on a Sunday at 7pm for my mother’s 73rd birthday party. We arrived at the restaurant on time and were told the table was not ready and to please wait outside on the sidewalk. After 30 minutes of waiting, I went inside to check on the status of our table and was informed it would be another 45-60 minutes before they could get a table for us. When I expressed my frustration that they would take my reservation for a large group but not honor it, the manager replied “some times it works out, some times it doesn’t.”
They essentially ruined my mother’s birthday dinner party.
Short staffed but understand why and they explained this before so we were prepared would go back in a heartbeat though! Halibut was out of this world!
Amazing fresh food with excellent spice:!best lamb I and my friends have had. Been here several times! Had the brunch and dinners, have always been impressed and never disappointed! Get a reservation early as I am not the only one that knows this place has great food, energy!
Seated 45 minutes late. Crowded and loud dining area. Touching shoulders with the guy at the table next to me.
Took my 18 y/o son there while on a college visit. Shared a few starters and smalls. Excellent food, excellent waiter.
Fish good but boring
Very noisy and crowded, service was a bit slow and food was marginal
might not be the best date night as the tables are very close. great atmosphere
Enjoyed the excellent food and cocktails. And especially enjoyed the promptness of the kitchen in delivering our food.
Food was great! Lively restaurant. One of our favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor.
