Thankfully, Candlewyck Inn to the rescue. While staying at Rocky Gap Resort and Casino we desperately needed to find a viable food option to the resort's overwhelmed and understaffed food service which only provided common bar foods of average quality. The Candlewyck Inn was just the right remedy for our need for some fine food, comfortable service, and pleasant dinning surroundings. Just a short (25 minute) picturesque drive from Rocky Gap we found a nice dinner at reasonable prices. Traditional American fare with highlights of local produce were a hit. The Inn served what were possibly the best fried green tomatoes we have ever had, simple, fresh, clean and delicious. They were lightly breaded, fried to a crisp bite yet still maintaining enough firm green tomato beneath, and accompanied by a dipping sauce which recalled the summers in my Grandmother's kitchen - two companions, not tomato eaters, enjoyed them as well and have since become converts of this southern favorite. Grilled skirt steak, crab stuffed jumbo shrimp, seasonal pasta all deftly done. The gourmet cupcake options for dessert are a must have treat, salted caramel just the right touch of sweet/salty on a moist filled yellow sponge cake! Don't be put off by the website "white table cloth" logo - it's a residual style from a place that has been around for awhile, that means successful - the atmosphere is friendly, comfortable, and casual, the food good and thoughtfully prepared. Do yourself a favor when out in the Western Maryland/Rocky Gap region - make the drive, get away from average or frozen corporate foods - have something local and authentic - Enjoy the Candlewyck Inn Cheers!

Had the Pot Roast. It was tender n good. Said it came with carrots n red potatoes n onions. When it was delivered, which was timely, there was 4 baby carrots a 1/4 n 1/2 of a 1/4 potato. And a bunch of squash. To us this wasn’t what we expected. This was our Anniversary dinner. Now this was our second trip. Our first was back on Valentine’s Day for dinner which was a complete snafu. We were compensated for that dinner and this was our return dinner. I must say tho that the service and time was much better. The food? Was some what better. I shud have taken a picture to add but forgot. Oh well

We so enjoyed our dinner here Sat night. (And all the other dining times)Food was/is awesome, whether ordering off the main menu or specials menu, this also is inclusion of their brunches,special events. Authentic,freshly cooked farm to table foods. We enjoyed appetizer of stuffed mushrooms,totally delicious. Our garden salad was cool,crisp and perfect portion size. Our steaks,lobster tails,veggies,potatoes all perfection. Their homemade dessert, oh my ,are out of this world,THE BEST!! Wines,beers and drinks from the bar are spot on. We like off the wall drinks eeve5had on our travels and they are very good about making them if posdible. Ambiance is quiet,cozy and fun for dining as a couple,business groups,hanging out with friends,you just feel at home,which makes the meal even more pleasant. Every dining experience here has been 100% perfect and then some. Perfect neighborhood gem,the owners and staff are awesome,and see that you have the best dining experience! If you have not had the pleasure of dining here,we suggest you schedule a visit,soon.

Always look forward to a visit to the Candlewyck. Many menu options and the food is always great- generous portions, also. Love the new pastry chef, the cupcakes are even more awesome. Fred and company are great!

I was not impressed I had wanted to go for a very long time. For the price I was expecting it to be spectacular and it was no where close. When we first arrived the sign said seat yourself and being our first time we seated ourselves then a waitress came over and told us we were not supposed to.Service was very slow and there was not a crowd at all. I also took cupcakes to go but they were also nothing to drive all the way back for.

The food was all excellent. Cheesy crab fries were the best I've ever had. Big shrimp, amazing cupcakes, terrific french onion soup. The server was very pleasant and attentive, and Fred (owner) is always willing to make our meal special. It's a lovely place, too.

Was not impressed. Had a reservation, they were late in seating. Did not get waited on for 30 minuets after seating. Steak was dry and fatty. Brussels sprouts were hard not cooked. Was given 2 cupcakes upon paying check as a offering for the service. We will not go back or recommend this place to anyone. By the way this was our first visit.

Had Valentine's Day reservations for 6:30pm and waited almost 20 minutes to be seated since they were very understaffed. Food was delicious but we waited on everything, even our soup and salad and we never did receive bread for our table. For the price of our meals that evening ($70) we felt that the service could of been better especially since we made reservations and it was a special occasion. This place came recommended by a friend who lives in the area but overall we were a little disappointed.

We eat at the Candlewyck as often as we can. Fred is wonderful and always comes out to visit. The wait staff is attentive. The food is delicious. The Sunday/holiday buffets have been fabulous. The desserts are amazing. The decor is unique and pleasant. Thanks for a great place in our little town!

Bad service ruined the New Year's eve dinner. The meal included bread which was never was delivered. Afterr asking twice, I had to go to see the hostess who finally brought it to the table. By the time it arrived, the rest of the meal was cold. Waitress dissappeared for at least 30 mins. Difficult to enjoy a meal when the service was that bad.

My husband and I were in town visiting friends. We love to eat at the Candylwick and had another fine dinner. They had really tasty wedding soup to start. You get good bread and salad with dinner. We had the specials. One was shrimp and grits the other was a seafood burrito and both were delicious. Throughout the dinner service was good. A notable thing about the Candylwick is the bakery. We took home peanut butter cupcakes which were great. We've had other baked goods and they are worth the stop!!!

This was a better place than we thought likely to find in this town. Interesting range of menu items. Wine list could use some work, and buying the only French red by the glass turned out to be a mistake as it arrived quite warm; beer arrived in its bottle, decently chilled and not frigid. Our party enjoyed every dish, and the total cost was very reasonable. The room is mid-renovation, and the owners would be well advised to hire someone who knows about older buildings and period decor (as this place is an historic building); now heading into mis-matched directions. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, and the owner greeted us on arrival since we were plainly the only ones who had reserved on OpenTable.

10* Love this place! It is a gem! We were greeted and seated right away. The owner Fred stopped by to say hello and personallly took our drink order. Things like this, is what just adds to our enjoying our Sunday brunch. Food was awesome,fresh, cooked to perfection(as always). The potato soup was rich, creamy and very hearty. The salad, fresh, crisp and homemade ranch dressing was a perfect portion for a lead off into the crab stuffed shrimp, wild rice and veggies. The shrimp was wonderfully cooked and overflowing with crab. Every bite tantalized your tongue! The sides were a nice accompliment to the entree. Portions are so large, that leftovers were packaged for home...ahhh the homemade desserts!!!....we did top off brunch by enjoying several cups of fresh brewed coffee and chocolate bee sting cupcakes. Service as always by Michael is empeccable. Fred, o/o/chef did an excellant job of taking of us too!

Food, from the appetizers (baked brie,potato soup melt in your mouth)shrimp scampi,steak,cooked to perfectioneto desserts of cupcakes,cookies,etc are all fresh, delicious and homemade. A true farm to table establishment, and long before farm to table became well known. Service by the staff, from greeting, table service(Michael, 10*, is awesome and our favorite)to exit is great. Great ambiance,This place is a gem! Love the old house turned restaurant,this brings you back to visting grandparents for dinner. We have been to Candlewyck a few times now and this was the best meal yet. My spouse had the MD crab chowder to start and raved about it. I skipped a starter as the portions for dinner are good sized and I wanted the spinach salad. We both got this salad. There is a small up charge but it is worth it as the salad has egg, bacon, and mushrooms. Be aware that the dressings are on the sweet side. I had glazed salmon, wild rice and veggies for dinner. My spouse had the small filet (rare), veggies and baked potato. Both dinners were perfectly cooked. My spouse has a hard time finding steaks that are not tough. The one served at Candlewyck was tender. The server was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. The atmosphere is causal and what I would call 'country chic'. Prices are about the same as many sit down casual chains. Why go to one of them when Candlewyck is so much better and you can support a local business.

Usually we have a very good meal at the Candlewyck Inn but I guess they were off that night. My husband's steak was very low grade, a lot of gristle and fat, hard to cut even and this was a special for the night. My baked potato was not done, hard. Waiter was attentive though. We did have wings as an appetizer and they were very good.
