Capture a magical moment of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s past as you dine in one of its most historic buildings. The four-diamond Cannery Restaurant of today is reminiscent of its former life as a canning factory in the 1800s, where Niagara peaches and tomatoes were canned until 1957. Its agricultural past has been lovingly retained in its décor of rough hewn wooden beams, rich red brick walls and a hearth at the heart of the restaurant. Chef Mark Longster continues to serve up the best of the region in his menus which feature the freshest local produce and fine wines. Charming and casual Cannery Restaurant is the place to find all your favorites, from succulent steaks to catch of the day to a fabulous Sunday brunch. Chef Longster's food is prepared and presented perfectly, for your ultimate dining experience.

Just an absolutely exceptional meal with fantastic service. We were there for our wedding anniversary and we're looking for a nice place to eat....found this one on Open Table. If you're thinking of going - then go. The food was great, I had the Beef Tenderloin which was cooked just perfectly and our waiter was superb at helping us get to the ideal wine selection. Other appetizers like the PEI Mussels and the Crab Cakes also great.

It was our first time there and we’d happily go back. Our waiter, David, was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. I had the salmon and my wife had the prime rib, both dishes were very good. A great experience.

Food was average, ambience good, service poor. Had to remove used plates twice when we came back. Asked for 2. tea, never arrived. There were only 6 other guests in the room, waitress must have been busy somewhere else, was hardly seen.

It looked like a very nice place, albeit a little out of the way. We arrived at 9:15, admittedly a little late, for a 9:00 reservation, because a play at the Shaw Festival ran late (we thought it would be rude to cancel or not show up), only to learn that the kitchen stopped serving at 9 PM. It would have been nice to have known that when booking, particularly given the long walk there. These things happen, but our dissapointment was compounded by the dismissive reception we received from the staff. It’s quite possible the food is wonderful, but we didn’t get a chance to find out. Perhaps we’ll try it again, but that’s unlikely. We went to another nice restaurant, which was happy to serve us dinner. It seems other places stay open later, and are perhaps better for the theatre crowd.

Excellent staff service. Nice setting and ambiance. Food was very tasty, cooked perfectly with lovely presentation. Portions were generous, appropriate for price points. All desserts were tasty. Only complaint is women's washroom needed attention but there was a large private function happening which explains higher than normal use.

Our server, David (I think I remember his name), was not attentive to our needs of our party of four. He seemed to be going through the motions of serving us but he was either absent (and slow) or abruptly present wanting to know how our meals "tasted." He seemed skilled but disinterested.

Our major concern was that we ordered a Chilean Malbec (the maker was Echeverria) for $43 CDN. He presented a bottle and said that it was the Echeverria though that wasn't plain from the label. We were engrossed in conversation, I'd put my reading glasses away, and the wine seemed fine when we tasted it.

When the bill arrived, the malbec was from an Argentinian maker and cost $65 CDN. The wine was good but it was not what we ordered.

Of course, we should have objected at the beginning but we in the company of good friends and we were intent on having a pleasant evening. We paid the inflated bill quietly and focused on our friends instead of focussing on the mediocre service and the "upsold" wine.

We won't be back to the Cannery.

The food was aaaaaamazing!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed the braised beef ribs and salmon dishes. The restaurant was very accommodating to change up the veg for a diet restriction. Thanks for a lovely dining experience. Definitely worth a return visit.

Wedding receptions should not be that close to the dinning area.
Didn’t like hearing the kids playing in hall while I was trying to have a lovely date night.

Nice restaurants, however, I got the steak and my bf got the lamb, his lamb was amazing, my steak was not good at all. For such a fancy restaurant, I was surprised. Still a nice restaurant, very quiet atmosphere, just disappointed with my steak for the price I'm paying.

The menu seemed somewhat limited but I trusted a friend’s review and glad I did. The food was fantastic, and I’m very pretty hard to impress. I rarely get filet mignon at a restaurant since I can easily do it at home but I was in the mood. It was cooked perfectly and well accompanied with delicious sides of roasted roots and truffled potatoes. My date’s salmon came lightly glazed and melted in your mouth. The side of pesto potatoes were a delight.
If you stay the night, the breakfast bar in the morning is decent as well.
The staff are all energetic and attentive. A minor hiccup of a forgotten appetizer was adequately compensated and hardly missed. We will return!

The Cannery is nestled in a charming area surrounded by little cottage like homes. It is perfect for taking afternoon walks, but after dinner walks are sure to not let down if you want to take in the beautiful scenery after dinner. While the food was just average for the price (We shared the Taster Platter to start our meal which comprised of a crab cake, poached pear and cambozola Bruschetta, and twice baked goat cheese and pistachio souffle. This was a unique tasting experience and demonstrated some culinary creativity. While it wasn't mind-blowing and a little overpriced, it was a decent start. For the main course, I had the prime rib and my wife had the beef short ribs. While both were good, the prime rib didn't have any element that set it apart from any other prime rib. We've had better for half the price. The beef short ribs, while very tender and fell off the bone like they were braised for hours, really need a good wine to help cleanse your pallet to save it from becoming boring. My pregnant wife couldn't have a glass of wine so this, of course, isn't a fault against the restaurant. The food was good but not spectacular for the price. There was just nothing unique about the food that gives the hotel restaurant its own identity. Perhaps the signature salmon would have been a better option). All that goes to say, the service was fantastic and the atmosphere even better. The restaurant was beautiful inside and out and very charming. This is what makes the Cannery memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed the service which will not disappoint anyone who visits. I would recommend a visit to the Cannery for its charm and excellent service; however, while the food was good it doesn't really deliver a memorable culinary experience if that's important to you. I still recommend stopping in and enjoying a meal if you are celebrating a special occasion. It is quaint and romantic with a setting that suits any anniversary celebration!

I didn’t realize at first that this was the Pillar and Post, as it’s not called out on Yelp. The food was good, not outstanding, and I always remembered the food at the Vintage Inns as being far and above everything else in town. It was definitely an expensive dinner for the quality of food, but overall not too bad. Service was excellent.

Great evening celebrating mom’s birthday! The food and service were amazing, and they made sure we made it to the show on time. We were staying at one of the Vintage hotels and took advantage of the dinner package, which you can arrange through the hotel; appetizer, main, and dessert for $65.

Amazing food and fantastic service! Our compliments to the chef for preparing such intricate dishes. From the appetisers to the main course and ending with dessert, all the different tastes were beyond expectation. A great end to a great day in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Thank you to our waitress Lisa who was so knowledgeable and professional. We are already planning our next trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake with dinner at the Cannery at the Pillar & Post Inn.

It was our first time in niagara on the lake and we were celebrating our anniversary and my birthday. I have to say that this was for sure one of the best meals I have ever had. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive and made sure to give us a couple suggestions on where to visit in the area. The only bother was that we were sat in front of a elevator that kept opening during our dinner with some loud guests inside, uncontrollable to say the least so we didn’t let it ruin our beautiful dinner. The ambiance is quite romantic and if you like visiting Niagara-on-the-Lakes historic buildings, this is a beautiful place to start.
