For what the prices are, the portions are small & there was nothing extra special in their version of Northern cuisine. Definitely NOT worth the cost or Michelin star rating.

The Peking duck was well worth reserving for and the pea tops with Ginko was a rare complement to an extraordinary meal. Considering we were the only non-Chinese people in the very full restaurant (on a Sunday night) suggests that the restaurant is well thought of by those who would know superior Chinese cuisine. Although a very loud Indian wedding was ongoing above us the noise level did little to dampen our enthusiasm for this restaurant.

Our dining experience was mixed. Food was great. The service was adequate. The serving staff looked disheveled and the patio deck furniture looked tired. Probably won’t go back.

I has a dirty bowl n I asked for it to be replaced. Waitress brought back a bowl but just left it on the side, didn’t put it in the correct place. I would’ve expected better service. This was the same lady who was training a subordinate (who happened to NOT be around). I don’t like how they automatically assume we spoke Chinese and started speaking to us in Chinese. I would’ve much preferred to converse in English. The hostess weren’t quite ready for us when we arrived 5 minutes early. Told us to have a seat to the side. And kept telling the rest of the patrons to have a seat. There must’ve been over a dozen people told to sit and there ain’t enough seating for sure. Hostess also automatically spoke in Mando. The duck was weird. It’s not your typical Peking duck. It is a roasted duck with an interesting skin texture. The condiments- don’t get me started. They precut the cucumber many many hours ago. It was not juicy and not crunchy. I only ate the pears. Cucumbers are supposed to be a thirst quenching condiment. I liked how one waiter came n told us that the appt chicken dish we ordered weren’t suitable for kids. The wraps that came with the duck- hmmm just my luck. I got one that was thicker and not cooked fully. The elder kid seemed to like it so he ate pretty much all the wraps. At one point. I felt as though the waiters and waitresses were all standing in one row not knowing what to do and just stared. It’d be nice to pretend to be busy. The trainer who was training the trainee probably shouldn’t be training while serving the patrons. The mumble jumble in the background really isn’t pleasant. We are not here as your test models. All training should be done prior to the 5pm start n resume when you are not in front of the patrons. Talk about it inside the kitchen or after the dinner service. Oh and I never asked for the bill but was presented with one at the end. Yes the husband went for a smoke. But it wasn’t as if he would not come back! Thx but NO thx!

Food was great! Service was not great for a fine dining restaurant. The worst interaction with the server was when I paid for the bill. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and I did not want my boyfriend to know how much I was paying so I tried to do it all quickly. I tipped $40 total on a $530 bill, I originally wanted to tip $20 but changed my mind last second. I notice a change in the waiters face as soon as he sees the tip and he asks if there was anything wrong and I told him the food was great. He then says well you didn’t even tip 10% and points to the $40 tip. I am confused and ask him if I’m required to tip a certain percentage, to which he says no and I respond “I don’t understand what the problem is.” My boyfriend and I leave after that. I tip based on service. I just didn’t think it was good, so if you go be prepared for the servers to request larger tips if you are tipping less than 15%. That last interaction soured the experience for me and I’m very disappointed as the food was phenomenal. When we were ordering the food I was trying to ask the server about the Peking duck I had ordered the day before and his response was “we are sold out” in a rude tone and I had to repeat to him and explain that I had ordered it yesterday and I just want to confirm they know that and it will be served. It was not a big deal at the time so I didn’t think too much of that interaction. My boyfriend and I throughout the night would have to wait a long time before anyone would come help us. When the Peking duck was being served the chef had finished cutting the duck skin and he stood there continuously looking around as no one was nearby to help serve the duck. Once we finished eating they did pack most of our food for us except for the dumpling soup that comes with the Peking duck. I’m not sure why they decided to toss that out as I did not even take one bite of it since I was already so full from previous dishes.

Incredible quality of food and dishes with a beautiful ambience. Several dishes are very classical Shaanxi-style Chinese cuisine, while some were very unique creations that worked amazingly. Their Beijing duck quality is amazing.
