Chiado Ratings and Reviews
We recently visited Chiado for Valentine's Day dinner, at the food was really good! Our server was very knowledgeable and professional, and the food was very good and fast. A little pricey but I would definitely recommend if you like Portuguese food (lots of seafood).
Just a perfect date - lovely atmosphere, the nicest people, fabulous service, and food to die for!
The ambience was very attractive, warm and friendly. The food was excellent for all courses, with the fish dishes being exceptionally well done. Overall, it was a great experience, and I plan to go back again.
Had heard about this restaurant for a long time, traveling to Portugal made me want to try it, and we were not disappointed. It had all the flavour of the old world right here in downtown Toronto. The staff was knowledgeable, and the wine list was superb. They gave great advice and delivered the food to match. The port was outstanding and dessert was plentiful.
Will definitely come back again and it's certainly a place I would take friends.
Its been years since eating at Chiado. Booked for Winterlicious. Portions were small. Sardines were filleted and tasteless. Mains arrived separately as waiter got the order incorrect. Dorado was flavourless and oily. Cod was good. Wrong dessert came and I didn’t bother to let the waiter know as he had disappeared. Had to ask for water glass to be refilled twice. Wine was great. Highly unlikely to return.
Chiado did not disappoint. We walked in late, and they did not bat an eye. Our coats were graciously checked and we were lead through a warm music-filled space. We were seated in the secondary dining area, and though quite lovely, it did not have the same veil of romance. Our waiter was attentive, but slightly aloof. It did not affect our dining experience, but was notable---having come from Auberge on Sunday where the wait staff were exemplary AND amiable. The grilled squid, salmon, comfit of duck, flan and chocolate cake were perfection. Their negroni and a glass of wine were amazing but hefty in price. We paid over $230 with tax and tip for the winterlicious meal with a drink each, and cappuccinos. Altogether, a wonderful night out!
A class act from start to finish with friendly, attentive service and superb food. This was my third visit to Chiado for their Winterlicious lunch menu. I will return for other special occasions.
From the minute we walked into the restaurant, everything was top notch. They are very welcoming. The food and service were exceptional. It was a birthday celebration and our waiter made sure there was a candle at dessert time. It is one of our favourite special occasion restaurants. Every experience is positive!
Booked a table for dinner based solely on the strength of the online reviews and the type of food and fine dining experience Chiado offers. Turns out we arrived during Winterlicious - so we got to sample a three course gourmet meal for the amazing price of only $52.
Everything was superb; the fresh cod was to die for. A fabulous restaurant!
This was our second time at Chiado and we enjoyed our meal. This restaurant is well known for its fish dishes with a Portuguese flavour . The wines were also excellent. I would recommend Chiado to anyone interested in wonderfull cuisine .
Chiado was wonderful!
The drive was very long (from the east end of the city) and we didn't know about the valet parking until we had driven around the block 5 times looking for a spot! I dropped my husband off at the restaurant and made a sixth attempt at finding a spot. He called me as I was driving and told me about the valet parking (they told him about when he went in to tell them why we're a bit later for our table). Now we know for next time but it would be good to tell people about it when they make a reservation.
But it was all worth it. The food, service and overall experience was great!
We'd definitely go back.
Amazing place! We went for the Winterlicious lunch on Saturday. Superb service from the time we walked in to the time we left. Very personal and friendly approach for an upscale restaurant. Food is of a very high quality, very well presented. Highly recommend.
Service too rush
Delicious food and beautifully presented. Excellent service. We loved it!!
Food was delicious. Staff were very friendly, it made the night so enjoyable. Appetizers are small, mains are a good size. Overall a great restaurant. I would highly recommend it.
Small portions for Winterlicious (almost half size - a quarter for salad), for about same price as regular menu. Felt rushed. Diner ambiance, versus luxury. Changed significantly in past year. Were frequent customers, but no more!
Food was quite good and service was absolutely incredible. Would highly recommend for a special occasion.
Lovely fresh grilled fish. Impeccable service. Lovely.
As always, Chiado delivers on all fronts - food, service, and ambience.
The food is delicious and, most important, always consistent. The service is quietly gracious.
I always look forward to dining at this restaurant, and I would highly recommend it to all diners.
went there for winterlicious，definitely a nice try
Prices were high but when we got the food it was 100% worth it. Cozy, romantic, and beautiful plating.
EXCELLENT FOOD WITH GREAT SERVICE. WE ENJOYED A LOVELY EVENING OUT
Came here due to a recommendation for Winterlicious and was not disappointed. The food was excellent, the portion sizes for the meal were just right, and the service was five stars. The staff were helpful and professional. I will definitely be back here shortly.
I visited Chiado during Wintericious 2018 with my wife.
Very nice sea food. My wife was also happy with this lunch.
Better menu and food than Café Boulud. Well worth a Michelin star.
We have eaten at Chiado several times and the food and the service has always been excellent!
Exceptional quality seafood. We love this restaurant for the excellent service, the ambience and the delicious food
Well it wasn’t perfect, there was a bit of a snafu in the kitchen that delayed our food (two hours!) but the service was exempliary, the apps were fantastic, the restaurant was beautiful and the staff handled the snafu very professionally. We had to leave just as the food was finally ready so they packed it up for us and didn’t charge us anything. When we did eat it the next day the food was incredible. I would love to go again when it isn’t New Year’s Eve and the kitchen isn’t so behind!
Ok it New Years but how can a seafood restaurant over cook fish so badly
Server was totally blank when I explained
Not great at all
Been many other times for business with better results
Simply overpriced, the staff is old and not knowledgable about the menu, felt I was gouged from every direction and my fish was burnt. Will not go back
The night of a snowstorm, and pre New Years celebrations.. so the restaurant was not busy. We had unbelievable hospitable service and tried many different things And great Portuguese wine.
Was a perfect experience to catch up with a friend.2
Every year when my niece is home from university, it's tradition to try a "new to us" restaurant or a different cuisine we haven't tried before. Chiado fit both criteria. We had a fantastic time the other night. We both love seafood and Chiado knows how to do it right. From the food to the wine to that amazing dessert--MOLOTOF!--to the attentive but not obtrusive service, it was all wonderful. Highly recommend.
But what impressed me the most was the way y'all treated my niece. She's almost 23 and this holiday season has been rough on her with her grandmother slowly losing her battle with Cancer. She's spending as much time with her because it's probable the next time my niece is home her grandmother will be gone. Long story short because she's spending as much time at the hospital as she can she was definitely not dressed for a fine dining restaurant like Chiado.
But the way the staff treated her was just lovely. No looks of consternation or disapproval. Everyone was very welcoming and for almost two hours helped distract my niece from her worries. Thank you so much.
Love this place!!! Gr at food - does not disappoint!!!
Great service and knowledgeable with wine selection.
Amazing experience. Delicious food. Superb service!
Service and food are unbeatable.
Great staff. These folks really know what they are doing.
Thank you for a consistently flawless experience.
I haven't been here for a few years -- there were six of us, two parents and four kids in their twenties. We were all very impressed.
The wine list has Portuguese wines, which I was not really familiar with. The waiter knew the wine list well, though, so we had really tasty wines within our budget -- one red and one white -- both from the Douro region.
The best starter was a grilled pear with cheese and balsamic reduction, a daily special, but all we had were good. i don't think you can go wrong here, the kitchen obviously knows what it is doing.
We all had fish/seafood for our main courses. There are the items on the menu and then three or four extras. I had the salt cod, which is a favourite of mine and hard to find anywhere else (the salt cod is a little more firm than fresh). The lobster with saffron risotto got rave reviews.
The service is at the highest professional level.
They have valet parking, which we didn't use on account of the wine list.
My best friend took me here 27 years ago before I headed off to backpack through Australia and it was my first experience in fine dining which left an indelible impression and started my journey into gastronomy.
Being Portuguese himself it was the perfect place for me to return the favour to celebrate his 50th birthday with another mutual long-time friend and the evening couldn't have been more perfect.
Impeccable service, unbelievable food and a wonderful atmosphere brought us all back to our youth which was priceless and a perfect way to celebrate 38 years of friendship.
The grilled octopus was a revelation in 1990 (when I was only familiar with rubbery calamari) and still a simple treasure, as were the steamed clams that were meaty and perfectly cooked - resist the urge to dip ALL THE BREAD into the broth so you'll have room for the main course.
The cataplana was outstanding and big enough for 2 and the trio of seafood on different beds of accompaniments was a great choice when you can't decide on the phenomenal array of fresh fish available.
Having dipped too much bread into the clam and cataplana broths we didn't have room for desert but couldn't have been happier with our meal.
Chiado's consistency over the years makes it a truly special place to dine and in my opinion offers real value in a fine dining experience where the gastronomic enjoyment and superior service far surpass the cost of the meal and proves that sometimes, you can get more than you pay for.
Excellent as usual.
Upscale restaurant with really first-class service, excellent food, combined with very moderate check (~100 per person)
Rather dissatisfied with the sardines and the main course ( various fish) and very slow service. No nearly as good as previous visits.
