All four of us enjoyed our fresh fish dinners. Great ambiance and attentive service. Very pleasant experience.
Everything was absolutely perfect! The staff was very professional and the food was beyond delicious. Will definitely be returning for some great seafood.
I am compelled to write this review as a customer of this restaurant for 4 years. Every single time we go, the food is at the exact same highest level of quality in terms of ingredients, preparation and conceptualization. The service is invariably attentive, but not invasive. The decor is subdued and elegant, with white linen table cloths and equally refined stemware.
I had the grilled quail appetizer, finished in a piri piri sauce and on a bed of wonderfully light mushroom risotto. For the main, a perfectly poached Atlantic lobster, moist and juicy as can be on its own bed of risotto that was also a very light rendition without cheese and perfectly seasoned.
As is our habit, we finished with green leafy salad without dressing, and in this too, our expectations were well exceeded by the crisp perfection of the endives and lettuces, garnished with a few slices of pear and sections of orange.
I have to say, I think Chiado is one of Toronto's best kept secrets, and we expect to return several times a year, or whenever we are in the mood for reliably exceptional cuisine.
Excellent service and food. We celebrated our anniversary here and loved it
The food was very good, though the portions weren’t big, making the meal a bit pricy.
Service was very good with one exception. Before finishing, I went to the toilets and when I came back, everything was gone, rest of water et wine in glasses too. Fortunately, the food I finished before.
Have been to Chiado several times over 5~10years and the food & service has always been excellent.
Unfortunately this last visit was mediocre.
Waiter was snarky almost to the point of being rude. We asked about cocktails, were told that they "had a full bar and to look at the wine list" ... which he hadn't given us. And it went on from there. Final straw was when couple of waiters went by and splashed drops of, what I hope was, water on my face. Watched him chuckle it up with other guests so not that he was just having a bad evening.
Prawn appetizer - meh
Steak - asked for medium, got very well done
Grouper - well prepared and tasty
... 1 out of 3...
Cava - very nice
Skipped desert - wasn't worth the risk given how the rest of the evening had gone.
Haven't decided if I want to give them a second chance or just find another go to restaurant. Sucks to lose a sure bet for great food & service.
The food was good. The grilled squid had a strong burnt flavor but was not burnt. The octopus was very good. Overall a nice experience. The ambiance was nice and cozy.
Our friends recommended Chiado to us and we loved it! Fabulous fresh fish and delicious flavors!
Been my wife's favorite for 6 years in a row for her birthday dinner.
Excellent reception, service and food. The squid and then grilled grouper was it for me.
The food at Chiado has always been fabulous and did not disappoint. However, for the higher price points expect better service. The restaurant was not busy and yet the server seemed easily distracted. Although there was lots of room to move around our table, he continuously served and collected plates and glasses by reaching across the table in front of people. Seemed too lazy to walk around to the other side. He only became polite with me (female) at the very end of the evening when he realized I was paying the bill.
There are too many other great restaurants in Toronto so will likely not dine here again anytime soon.
Usually the service is very good and because it is a fine dining restaurant one would expect that. On Wednesday night however, mid-week it was very full and unfortunately the service really suffered. Our host - who is a frequent patron of your restaurant - and her guests all noticed that the service was really under par. There needed to be more waiters on the floor and much better service. We hope that this will improve.
Expected more based on previous reviews. Everything was just ok, nothing extraordinary about it. My fish was a bit too salty and a bit too rubbery.
This restaurant is an experience in itself. We were there celebrating my fiancé’s 40th birthday. From the start till the end of our dinner, we were treated like royalty!! Food is almost perfect, and the wine selection is excellent. For an occasion, it is the perfect place!
The fish was rubbery and had no flavour.. not a true representation of Portuguese food
Our lunch of the year! It was such a hard decision to choose just an appetizer and main course each the two of us shared a fabulous meal of 6 appetizers. We thought the lobster bisque, grilled sardines, grilled octopus, baked goat cheese and eggplant, and the quail with mushroom risotto were all spectacular. We would repeat that exact lunch again. Our professional and courteous servers matched well some wines with our food. The meringue dessert was a lovely end to our afternoon. Will return soon.
As always, Chiado does not disappoint. Excellent service, high quality, authentic experience. Excellent price to quality ratio. Would highly recommend.
Chiado is absolutely and consistently the best seafood restaurant in Toronto. Great choice of very fresh fish & seafood perfectly prepared. A good selection of wines including many from Portugal not often seen in Toronto
Chiado was magnificent as usual. We shared a number of appetizers at the table and they were all excellent. The fish was fantastic. This is the best place for fish in Toronto.
Although food was excellent, even more impressive was the friendly informed service. The dining room reminded me of 19th c Europe, but the food is creative. Clearly a chief is hard at work. Our waiter could describe our options with expertise and made the evening so much more enjoyable.
Vivo en la CDMX y viajo a Toronto regularmente
Procuro visitar este restaurante en cada viaje y siempre quedo invitado a regresar
My husband and I decided to have dinner here for our 5 year anniversary. It was such a great evening..fabulous food, great service, warm and intimate atmosphere. Highly recommend! Thank you Chiado!
Great service, phenomenal food, and fantastic selection of wine.
Excellent great selection of Portuguese fish.
Ordered two whole fish entrees. One was perfectly roasted; the other was under done. Good thing my guest had the perfect one.
The cooking here is absolutely excellent. Some of the best seafood I ever ate, an amazing selection of Portuguese and Spanish wines that savvy servers know how to showcase and adapt, everything market fresh... Hard to find any default here. Staff was very accommodating despite having two children - despite somewhat displeased older guests (the restaurant had a lot of those when we went in), we could perfectly enjoy our wonderful dinner as a family. Warmly recommended.
We were delighted by every aspect of our lunch - food, presentation, service, setting.
Wonderful experience and delicious seafood
Good chicken amd Beer very grumpy staff but adds to
The menu leans more to seafood some meat dishes are provided on the menu. Seasonal fresh fish from Portugal waters are highlighted by the server. My wife and I started with grilled squid and a salmon tartare. The squid was fresh and flavorful and served lightly grilled portions were very rare. The tartare was excellent. My main dish was lobster and risotto it was delicious. My wife had the tile fish with a spicy red sauce, peppers and root vegetables. This fish was part of the seasonal fresh fish selection. It to was cooked perfect and very delicious. Wine selection is very stacked with Portuguese varietals. Excellent whisky and port wine selection also. Very nice deserts offered to round the menu out.
The service started slow and the staff gave more attention to a few surrounding tables that came in after us. No big deal service got better as the evening progressed. Waiter was very helpful with wine selection and questions we had on menu. Overall really nice restaurant with fresh quality ingredients prepared very well.
Lovely staff and excellent food! A little gem!
Excellent restaurant.. Have been going there for years and they are consistent. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It's a sign of a great restaurant when the same staff have been there for years and are always happy to have us back. And the food is fantastic.
I was here for a business meal and could not have asked for a better setting. The layout is small which is great for conversation. A market fish tray came out with beautiful selections, topped only by the service and explanation. While the traditional Portuguese meals are available here, they are served with a wonderful culinary twist-like exotic sauces over familiar Portuguese fish. There was nothing left to be desired. On a side note, their desserts, particularly the chocolate mousse, is lighter and less sweet than traditional Portuguese fare, making it a welcome ending to a great meal.
excellent food and great experience. Fish offering was excellent. Great selection of Portuguese wine
One of the best meals we’ve both had in a long time! Great overall and service was terrific!
Amazing Portuguese fine dining!!! Everyone in our group was impressed. Amazing fresh fish and a great menu. Discovered some great Portuguese wines, white and red! Overall a perfect evening! Will return!
As always, service is excellent! starting from reservation to the end of evening.
This time I found food was not with the high standard I am used to. Service was excellent. My family really enjoyed it!
Will definitely recommend it in the future.
Perfectly executed meal, I cannot wait to return. The Fish display and selection was beautiful.
Outstanding food and service
A little pricey but the food is reflected in the pricing
