Chiado is a treasure which unfolds over the course of the evening. The ambiance is both elegant, calm and unpretentious. The staff are a perfect balance of attentive, very present, and you know that they are there but they do not intrude. The menu is very creative, the food authentic, and delicious, artistically served. Once you enter the restaurant, you are in a 5 star experience.
The people I was with found that the pacing was a little slow, and one of the dinners was not as "out of the oven to the table" perfect. If I lived in Toronto, Chiado would indeed become my special occasion place.
My wife and I live in Boston and often travel. We have dined at this restaurant a few times. This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is always very delicious. When we dined there this week, my main dish Assorda, a dry soup with monkfish, lobster, shrimp and clams was absolutely amazing! Our server Stanislav was extremely efficient, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and more importantly, incredibly nice. We will definitely return when we are visiting Toronto next time!
The service was exemplary; our waiter had a fantastic personality and an encyclopedic knowledge of everything the restaurant serves, the wine list, and food in general. He was obviously a foodie, In the very educated one, at that.
The food was to die for. Absolutely fantastic. Unbelievably fresh seafood, a great deal of imagination in its preparation. Different, inventive and wonderful .
This place is definitely on the must-visit list for the next time we are in Toronto. Wow. Highly recommended.
Lots of variety of fresh fish including species seldom seen elsewhere. The fish is always perfectly fresh and well prepared, We come regularly and are never disappointed. One of the better seafood restaurants anywhere!
Fresh food...well thought out. Beautifully prepared and meticulously presented. Interact with the owner and you know that quality control and consistency is a requirement not a choice.
We enjoyed this gem thoroughly in celebration of our many decades together as a couple. All wines offered are from Portugal and our waiter, a phenomenal gentleman from France who seemed to know every corner of the main and wine menus.. We will definitely return.
Great and authentic Portuguese
Chiado is our favorite place. The food is always amazing, it’s focused on fresh fish - which we love. The people are so gracious, and the Portuguese wine selection is awesome.
It was my daughters birthday
Gourmet Portuguese cuisine . Delicious . Cozy ambience
Excellent, attentive service. Food was well prepared— we had grilled sardines, skate, fig salad, and fish stew. Good flavors and exposure to Portuguese foods.
The food and the staff are fabulous! Always very good and the portions are generous. Conversation is easy to have since tables are not cramped together.
great find for Portuguese fish/seafood in a neighborhood context. on the expensive side
Amazing service. Amazing food
Excellent sea food!! Great service starting from walking in to the minute we left.
As a special lunch together, we had a huge three-course meal with ample servings of the most delectable food, with great service, and a beautiful ambiance. It is wonderful to have such a superb restaurant in our neighbourhood.
Food is good, service is good. Only dessert is a little bit too sweet for me! I will definitely recommend!
Very good all the way we entered the restaurant.
Great dinner . First time there and all our selections were excellent. The service was accommodating and very welcoming. Excellent recommendation for the wine. The sardines and arugula fig salad are very tasty. The grilled squid was a little tough. The dusty grouper, seafood stew , steak and lobster risotto was to everyone's liking. The grouper was very well prepared- delicious as was the seafood stew. The fries are to die for!
Great meal and great and very friendly and excellent service!
Chiado has excellent Portuguese fare and spirits. The atmosphere is very very nice, just private enough but not too quiet. The seafood was excellent, we were shown the fish before it was cooked and all had the fresh Monkfish, Black Scabbard(uuuugggllyyy) and the Sea Bream that was offered. The Amuse-Bouche and appetizers were tasty and beautifully plated. The only funny thing was our charming but challenged waiter.....
For almost 30 years, still one of the BEST fine restaurant in Toronto!
Chiado is quickly becoming my favourite go-to restaurant. The food is fantastic. The service impeccable. A must go for authentic Portuguese experience.
25 years in Canada
It is a pleasure to eat in a sophisticated restaurant with great food and quiet, attentive service. Not cheap, but worth it.
Wonderful experience. The service and the food were excellent.
If you are looking for a great place for a quiet business lunch outside the core, this is the place! They even have a prix fixe menu.
Amazing experience! Great food, service was fantastic, from the start to the features, our server was very knowledgeable. Had a fantastic bottle of wine, grouper fish for appetizer, with a fish I cannot pronounce that was so delicious. My partner had the tilefish that was equally as delicious. Fantastic time! Will return.
We just love this place, the food is amazing the staff is so efficient and really make the experience non forgettable Excellent in our books
From the moment we arrived until we left we were treated excellently by the entire staff. Our waiter was fantastic and attentive. The food was top notch and superseded our expectations . Highly recommend
Very nice restaurant. Love the ambiance and style of the place, with lots of interesting artwork to look at.
The service was very good, as well as the food.
If you love portuguese seafood, this is definitely a great place to go!
Nice place, we spent here our 4th anniversary and it was a great experience.
Appetizers were very good, main dishes were good but our sample is small as we both ordered the black cod.
service was outstanding and it definitively made it a place to come back
Wonderful food in a delightful ambiance with great service. My only suggestion for imorovement would be to have a greater variety of wines by the glass. For example, there were only three whites to choose from. Since I was by myself, an entire bottle was not an option. But even if I had been with my partner, I would still want just a glass.
Great food, great service, small restaurant and small portions, but we didn’t mind.
Would go back if we had the chance!
I was pleasantly surprised. They have valet parking. While the wine is exclusively Portuguese it was good. Sensing my uncertainty, the waiter let me chose between two wines by giving me a taste. The menu focuses on fresh fish and the service is amazing. I would definitely go back.
We recently visited Chiado for Valentine's Day dinner, at the food was really good! Our server was very knowledgeable and professional, and the food was very good and fast. A little pricey but I would definitely recommend if you like Portuguese food (lots of seafood).
Just a perfect date - lovely atmosphere, the nicest people, fabulous service, and food to die for!
The ambience was very attractive, warm and friendly. The food was excellent for all courses, with the fish dishes being exceptionally well done. Overall, it was a great experience, and I plan to go back again.
Had heard about this restaurant for a long time, traveling to Portugal made me want to try it, and we were not disappointed. It had all the flavour of the old world right here in downtown Toronto. The staff was knowledgeable, and the wine list was superb. They gave great advice and delivered the food to match. The port was outstanding and dessert was plentiful.
Will definitely come back again and it's certainly a place I would take friends.
Its been years since eating at Chiado. Booked for Winterlicious. Portions were small. Sardines were filleted and tasteless. Mains arrived separately as waiter got the order incorrect. Dorado was flavourless and oily. Cod was good. Wrong dessert came and I didn’t bother to let the waiter know as he had disappeared. Had to ask for water glass to be refilled twice. Wine was great. Highly unlikely to return.
Chiado did not disappoint. We walked in late, and they did not bat an eye. Our coats were graciously checked and we were lead through a warm music-filled space. We were seated in the secondary dining area, and though quite lovely, it did not have the same veil of romance. Our waiter was attentive, but slightly aloof. It did not affect our dining experience, but was notable---having come from Auberge on Sunday where the wait staff were exemplary AND amiable. The grilled squid, salmon, comfit of duck, flan and chocolate cake were perfection. Their negroni and a glass of wine were amazing but hefty in price. We paid over $230 with tax and tip for the winterlicious meal with a drink each, and cappuccinos. Altogether, a wonderful night out!
