simply the best steak in Chicago
service is impeccable
Best steak and best service in Chicago. One of my favorite steakhouses. Highly recommend.
The smell of the apparently popular bacon appetizer permeates the restaurant and gave our food a subtle bacon flavor. Not the worst thing for my steak but my date didn't think the background bacon flavor complemented the crab legs very well.
We revisited here after a lengthy time away on a quiet Thursday evening. They were not busy, and we were seated immediately, although at a high table instead of lower one we had requested. Server was outstanding and took care of every need. Drinks were tasty, as was the calamari appetizer. My wife's steak, a bone in filet, was cooked perfectly. Shared salad and au gratin potatoes were both great. I ordered the prime rib charred, hoping to get one of my favorite dinners from the past, a grilled prime rib which was always on the special menu. For some reason that was taken off the menu, the reason for our long absence. It still is, and if mine was charred, it wasn't noticeable. Overall, a nice evening.
Wow, this is my second visit to Chicago when I had the best steak dinner at the Chicago Chop House. My return trip 20 years later was better than the first, but again the best steak in the world. My daughters were with me and we each ordered different cuts, dry aged sirloin medium, dry aged filet rare and dry aged bone in ribeye medium well each with distinctive tastes. Hopefully my next trip will be sooner than 20 years but with certainty I will visit the Chicago Chop House!
The Chop House was perfect from start to finish. We were celebrating our new announcement of a 3rd child. They sat us in a quite window area. Beautiful view. The service was impeccable, Todd our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and not intrusive. The back staff keep our drinks full, table clean and well maintained. My perfect manhattans were just that, perfect. The food was the best part. Dry aged Tomahawk ribeye was beautiful and delicious. My wife enjoyed the petit filet. They brought us a key lime pie as a congratulatory dessert. The night was perfect. Just what we needed. Thank you Monique, Nick, and our course the infamous Phil Martin. You guys ROCK!
Delicious food, helpful waitstaff and live piano on the first level! My steak was absolutely delicious!
Our server, Todd, was extremely attentive and made the dining experience a memorable one. Todd educated us on the menu items and provided perfect recommendations given our feedback. The food was the best we have ever had at a steakhouse. We definitely plan to return here.
Bar tenders were poor, there service was terrible, waiter was outstanding,
food was good, piano was nice touch, but sitting next to the bar and hearing F bombs fly
by customer and staff made me feel like I was at a local bar rather than a fine dining establishment.
I took my boyfriend for his birthday, it was an amazing experience! Thank you
Very good meal and excellent service. Wanted to experience and “old style” Chicago steak and chop house with my wife and granddaughter and we did just that!
Service was great. Fast and easy. As my friend and I were on our way to catch a show, the server was very aware of our time constraints and had everything prepared when we needed it. The food was also delicious. The meat was perfectly cooked but I thought the sides were a bit plain (we ordered the crispy potatoes). I would definitely save room for dessert and dessert drinks. The carrot cake and Nutty Irishman were fantastic. Overall, would highly recommend. Good vibe and ambiance as well, not too loud and not too dark.
Awesome service, steaks and ambiance.
I had an amazing experience the steak was cooked to perfection. The service was very good and everyone was very friendly.
We loved the ambiance. My husband absolutely enjoyed his steak but the salmon I ordered was not the best.
Excellent service accompanied with excellent food. A classic in Chicago !
Visited Chicago to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. A dear friend of ours treated us to this wonderful place. We had one of the most memorable meals ever! The food, especially the bone-in ribeye, was amazing. Our server was attentive but not overbearing, she was great. We had an early dinner, so no crowds and the atmosphere was perfect for conversation. As we left, there was live piano playing which was a nice send off. And to top it all off, as we were leaving to go to the CIBC theater for Hamilton, they offered to take us on the Chop House Chariot, which is a free shuttle service exclusive to the Chop House.
Great Waite staff, very knowledgeable and friendly. Food was delicious.
It was a absolutely awesome meal with excellent service. I’ve alway loved going to Morton’s when I’m in Chicago but this will be my favorite place now
Great service. The staff was very attentive to my husbands gluten allergy. They also gave us each a complimentary dessert as we were both celebrating birthdays! Food was delicious, could improve overall ambiance.
I hadn't been to the chop House in years and was looking for a restaurant to take my hubby for his birthday. He's a serious meat and potatoes guy and we are on a quest to find our favorite steak house. so I thought let's give it a try. We sat upstairs on the second floor, nice atmosphere, music played, but not so loud that you couldn't enjoy your conversation. Our server was a little slow responding to basic requests, but it was busy upstairs so she got a slight pass. We both ordered the wet aged ribeye steaks, the portion size was good. I prefer mine medium well with a touch of pink, it was cooked well it just wasn't seasoned and needed salt and a pat of butter to flavor it. My husband likes his well done and said there were parts that still had some pink, but he's not one to send his food back so he ate it and said it was okay overall. The drinks were decent, the key lime pie was on the tart side and as one of our favorites we thought it was average. We loved the bacon strips for appetizers and would recommend them. Overall, it was a decent meal just not exciting and at just under $300 we could probably find a couple of other steak houses that we liked better. The quest continues...
Excellent meal and the service was outstanding!! Julian was our server and he was top notch! Nice "old school" environment, quiet making conversation easy!
Excellent food and service. Loved the restaurant years ago, still loving it!
Bone in fillet was supposed to be cooked medium for 2 of us and it was just over rare. Disappointed with the experience. For the prices - every mean should be perfect!
Our favorite place for seared prime rib. Pricey but worth it.
My wife and I had a great experience at the Chop House, great service and great food. The atmosphere was nice, not too loud.
Service beyond compare. Food quality good but I expected better. Had petite fillet cooked correctly but had a heave hand on salt and spices crust that made it less enjoyable.
Poor food quality, my steak was horrible. There are many other great options in town.
I had the dry aged and my boyfriend the wet aged, mine was definitely better!!! Waitor was outstanding. Perfect evening
From the friendly greeting at the door, our tasty cocktails at the bar, our excellent server, Joe..to our DELICIOUS food and service ..along with the ambiance just completely all on point. Management does a phenomenal job! Chop House keep up the great job! My date there with my hubs .. was perfect! Thank you ;)
*check out their Yelp.. pics of the food these chefs create.. show it all!!
One of our favorite restaurants!
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was busy in the restaurant and I feel they staff was very attentive and helpful. Food was amazing. Worth every dollar spent.
Service was very slow, getting a food menu took over ten minutes. Steaks were over priced for good but not great quality. Wanted to be on levels 1 or 2 to enjoy live piano music, was placed on three where no one else was sitting. Was also looking forward to seeing all the historical pictures, but the table we say at have several missing from the walls. The missing pictures looked tacky and the walls looked neglected as a result. The restaurant was also quite cold and had to sit with a jacket on.
Only thing good about this place was the pictures on the wall. French onion soup was pure salt. Pork chop n mash potatoes were avg at best. Service acted like he was talking to he homie...not professional at all! Drinks were a very short pour which is never the case at an upscale restaurant. This place obviously just a tourist trap! Tons of better restaurants in Chicago better than this classic dump!!
The food and service was great. Only downside was that I made a 8:30PM reservation and we were not seated until 9:30PM. Reservation seemed pointless.
Made reservations, was told “they were running behind 20 minutes”. Waited 30 minutes, while people were seated after me while I waited.
They ran out of dinner rolls/bread. Food came to my table cold. Food didn’t taste good. They were underprepared for Valentine’s Day.
I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Went in for Valentine’s Day. Overall we enjoyed it, but the kitchen got overwhelmed. We started with the lobster escargot which was superb. From there however it took over an hour for our steaks to come out. The staff was very apologetic and the manger came by and let us know they’d be comping our meals.
When the steaks and sides finally arrived, they were good. My wife got the petite strip dry aged, which was still huge and a perfect medium rare and tasted outstanding. I ordered the dry aged bone in ribeye medium rare, which was unfortunately over cooked to medium well. Not wanting to wait another hour for a remake, we just made do.
When the check arrived, they hadn’t comped any part of the meal. I asked the server; he said the manager never told him about the comp. When he returned, we had two drinks and the app taken off. We didn’t want to ruin the night by getting upset and arguing further so we paid the balance and declined the free dessert offer. At this point it was 10pm (reservation was at 7:30) and we just wanted to go home.
Overall, we made the best of the night but I’ll think twice before going back.
16 for valet, and I literally walked to the Walgreens parking lot next door to get my own car
Excellent choice for special occasion. Impeccable service, food and wine!
The filet. Dry aged was cooked correct but the meet was very tough.
