Ciao Bella Ristorante & Piano Bar Ratings and Reviews
I live in the neighbourhood, and often take visitors to this my favourite haunt. It is quiet, music sets a nice tone but does not impede conversation. Food is very tast and consstent each time.
I really wanted to like this restaurant. It started off good, got seated right away and the Insalata Especiale with goat cheese was quite good (nothing out of this world, but good). Date had minestrone soup which was good too. Mains is really where it fell short for me. Ordered the chicken parmigiana with high hopes and it fell flat on everything. Chicken just tasted old/not fresh, it was very soggy, nothing crisp about it. Flavor wasn't great. Pasta that came with it was bland shells with red sauce, I've had much better. For dessert we had Tiramisu which I thought was really good, one of the highlights of the night, along with the piano player. Service was good, food was not. Don't think we'll go back.
Always the very best in food, ambiance, and service. This is our go to restaurant when we have friends come visit! Never disappointed.
Office Christmas dinner
Very good local restaurant. Offers good Italian food, great menu & good wine list. Piano player really adds to the evening. Fun place to go with friends or family
We went to ciao bella for my girlfriends birthday. The food was excellent, service was exceptional and the atmosphere lovely. Ciao bella really helped me kill it for my girlfriends surprise birthday. Best date spot around.
We enjoyed our dinner very much, although one in the party found the lobster special menu (cannelloni) just OK. I thoroughly enjoyed my pasta vongole, my usual - must branch out the next time. The music is very pleasant, and not so loud that conversation at the table is unstrained. The service was attentive, cheerful and helpful.
Ciao Bella Restaurante & Piano Bar is a west end treasure. Staff, though overworked at the time, were friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was intimate and the live piano added a wonderful background. Good food and a great time was had.
Service was good but the food is just okay. The waitress didn't ask us if we want any peppers when our food arrives. And the spaghetti wasn't al dante. However the price was decent for the environment and the sevice.
What a delightful little restaurant! We were seated immediately and server remained attentive the entire meal. I had the three course salmon special with veggies, house salad and my husband ate the tiramisu after he devoured his lasagna!
The food, service and wine was amazing! The prices are very reasonable and the pianist that was playing throughout dinner was awesome! He played show tunes and was very personable! We were seated immediately and the staff was very helpful! Will definitely be back!
Ciao Bella fit our needs perfectly, a multi-generational family who loves all things Italian, especially the food. Great find for us, walking distance from the Westin Bayshore. Lots of choices and very good food :)
The restaurant was not the issue but the ability to reserve through Open Table while in line waiting for a table is an issue.
We had made our reservation through Open Table early in the day, as had other people. It was Canada Day and there was a long line. A lady in line then made her reservation while in the line up and insisted she had a reservation and got in ahead of us.
There should be a cut-off so that this cannot happen. We had to wait for an hour past our reservations time which is unacceptable.
Mario is a wonderful host. Great place and one we will absolutely frequent
Our server was amazing -- who wouldn't want to be called "Bella" at every table visit? We loved the piano and knew every song but one. A charming place with delicious pasta offerings.
Stopped here in Vancouver after a cruise. Had been to this restaurant a few years ago and enjoyed it then so decided to return. A great traditional Italian menu good specialty drink and wine selection. Once again we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves dining with the piano playing in the backround , a marvelous meal and efficient unhurried service. Try it you'll love it.
Nice place just really busy so the service isn't great. Also, the food was rather bland. There is a piano there so it's a nice setting.
Great food, as usual! I had the lasagna. Live music was a nice bonus. The piano player had a few memorable songs up his sleeves that made the night that much more.
Our group of 7 revisited am old favorite, and we weren't disappointed Homemade pasta, generous portions, impeccable service, thanks to Mario for sustaining a great restaurant for so many years
Great Food... if the dessert can be better then it's will be gorgeous!!
I really enjoyed the dinner here.
Although a bit crowded and tight for space, the general atmosphere was great. The live piano really made it go to the next level, and the service was amazing! Our server was incredibly friendly, humorous and accommodating. The food was pretty good for its value (although, my mother was having a hard time with the lamb ribs since it wasn't properly separated, and her knife couldn't cut through the bone) and very filling.
Would definitely come again.
Everything was really good. The entrees were amazing. The dessert (caramel flan) was a little lacking, bitter and goopy but the delicious appies and mains made up for it!
The food portion is huge, I usually don't feel very full at Dine Out events but this place offers a larger portion of the food. This is a plus. Live piano performance was nice.
The Dine Out menu online shows vegetarian options but when we arrived the place, they do not have an actual menu for vegetarian options. We have to use smartphone to show them what we want from the vegetarian menu.
We went for the dine out on Feb 2017, they served the big portion of the food, it was worth to have it.
We came here for Dine out Vancouver. Awesome service, they were very accomodating and we had a great dinning experience here. Will come back again to try out ther regular menu!
Nothing special , food was ok , service ok, wine pairing did not work at all. Value overall not great
The piano was a nice touch to the dining experience.
I took my mom out to Ciao Bella for Dine Out Vancouver. We had a really good time. The service is very friendly and accommodating, the food was delicious and we really enjoyed the live piano music.
This is a restaurant that we have thought of going to in the past but on this occasion we were attracted by the Dine Out menu. We had the Insalata Trio Colori and Gamberoni Ciao Bella as appetizers and both were delicious. For the main course we both had the Aragosta E Gamberoni and it was superb. For desserts we had the Tira Mi Su and Creme Caramel, which we enjoyed.
The ambiance of the room evokes memories of fine restaurants in Italy and our server was very pleasant and efficient with 22 years of experience in his background.
If you want a restaurant with an old world ambiance, great food and service , Ciao Bella is it.
I came into this restaurant (for dine out) not know what to expect as the reviews was mixed and unfortunately, it was one of the worst meals I had in dine out history. The bread that was served was warm, but one can tell that it isn't home made. The appetizer I had consisted of over-poached prawns as they had lost their springy texture. I order my lamb medium and unfortunately, it was well-done. Both me and my friend had pasta as a side and unfortunately, we could tell that neither the sauce nor pasta was not homemade. I understand the difficulties of the restaurant business and don't expect everything to be homemade, but coming from an Italian restaurant I hope at least the sauce should be made from scratched and not store bought. We ended with the tiramisu for dessert and not only did it not have any coffee liqueur in it (it had cheap coffee that did not really flavour the cake), but the cream/filling in it is just pure whip cream and did not consist of any marscapone/cream cheese.
I don't usually write reviews as I feel that everyone's taste buds are different, but it was not a good experience. For a $40 dine out, it was not worth the money. The only upside was that the staff was friendly.
The food was great. But the service is even better! Very friendly staff!
The space was a bit small to accommmodate that many people however.
Went with 3 other couples for DineOut Vancouver and very much enjoyed the food selections, the service and the ambience, and particularly enjoyed the pianist.
Came for dineout, our first time to Ciao Bella. We were packed like sardines, two person tables spread apart by about 6 inches - heard everyone's conversations. For the $40 dineout choices we had, we will not go again.
The French Martini my wife ordered was so watered down, you couldn't taste any alcohol. The lobster bisque she had was alright, my prawns were not that tasty. She had the lobster with tiger prawns and pasta while I had the rack of lamb. The lady beside us sent her lobster back twice for being undercooked, which made my wife nervous, but she said hers was fine. We both had pasta, which seemed so simple and cheap, I wish I chose the potatoes and vegetables instead. My rack of lamb was OK, it was small and covered in oil, and the meat was a bit tough. My profiteroles were underwhelming, five profiteroles with whipped cream in the middle and chocolate sauce. My wife's tiramisu was soggy, and was short on the mascarpone.
Our meal and service was fabulous for celebrating a special event.
I had a reservation but when we arrived the host/waiter sat us right next to the piano player, even though the rest of the restaurant was quite empty and there were plenty of two seat tables free for the entire duration of our meal.
My chicken and mushroom sauce dish came with a side of pasta that was in tomato sauce instead of the same sauce as the chicken...I found that strange. Food wasn't that bad, we have enjoyed Ciao Bella before but it seems a bit dated and lazy now. I don't think we will return.
New Year's Day dinner was lacklustre. It felt like the server was just rushing us through. She didn't tell us the specials we overheard another server tell the table behind us. She delivered plates without a word and that made me uncomfortable. Also, last year's lovely piano accompaniment has been replaced by someone with a much heavier hand on the keys. We won't go back. Lots of other restaurants in the area to try.
Family of 4 went for Xmas eve dinner at 5 - quiet at first only 2 tables then gradually filling up
Good value for set holiday menu of local Italian restaurant
We find this is a reliable restaurant when visiting Vancouver!
We were very disappointed with the meal and service. This was at least our 10th time at Ciao Bella and this was our worst experience there. We came for the dinner special during Lobster fest and the bisque was nowhere near the quality of previous meals. The canneloni was OK but extremely hot and less tasty than previously. The tiramisu was Ok and the pastry was better but did not bring the overall meal to meet the quality we had experienced before. The best part was the piano playing.
I love this place. Been going for years. Such good fresh tasting pasta dishes. Good prices. Good ambiance. Good service.
