Good food and service but music was very loud - perhaps I’d expect this in an evening but not for a Sunday morning
Awesome atmosphere great food
Menu online is completely different from what was actually there. Very loud, couldn’t even hear the person I was sitting across from. Was seated at bar seating despite not having reserved a spot at bar seating.
A group of 5 girls... so many things went wrong.
Our reservations were at 630. At 815 the waitress said we had to leave as another reservation was at 830. We were rushed out. No one told us this ahead of time.
We were watched for a picture of regular water.
We were NOT allowed to make substitutions unless we had allergies.
I ordered a dish I never tried before. I did not like it. The chef refused to refund me as “if the food is made to perfection, and the customer just does not like it, we will not take it off the bill”.
The music was blaring, we had to shout at each other.
We will not be going back!!
Amazing! Very trendy & vibrant atmosphere! Eclectic menu of both food & drink choices! We loved it & will definitely go back!!
At Cleaver you cannot modify your food, you can be asked to leave if you’re taking too long to eat, if you’re a two top they reserve the right to make you sit at the bar (even if you made a reservation) but the worst of it all is how horrible their customer service was when there was an issue.
I had an OpenTable cheque, which says you can use it at any OpenTable restaurant, and they refused to take it. The said that it’s too difficult for them to get their money back. Why is that my problem? Also, no where on the site does it say the don’t take them.
Then when I contacted management, they blew me off in a few sentences. Don’t support a restaurant that treats their guests like crap.
(This used to be one of my favourite restaurants, no longer)
Whenever we have ladies night this is our go to place! Alex and Barb are amazing and always provide the best service, food and drinks!!
Timing of food was all messed up. Ordered 6 plates, first three came 20 minutes apart, last three came 2 minutes apart. Ordered three desserts, 1 came 5 minutes before the other 2. Food was good, kitchen has an issue with timing. Place was loud and cramped, could barely have a conversation. Food was good though.
Brunch was absolutely amazing. Our server was fantastic.
Mother’s Day brunch was absolutely amazing!! Our server, Adam(?) was so kind and he was so incredibly busy. He made sure I had a mimosa in front of me right away. The food was amazing. We shared a few brunch items as a family of four and we were stuffed. We will definitely be back!
Food and service was good but thought the restaurant was dark and very loud with the music. Would have liked more light especially sitting at the back and music was super loud.
Always amazing food, drinks and service!!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
We’ve been to cleaver quite a few times but Saturday breakfast was a bit disappointing. They weren’t able to do any modifications to the menu which is not very reasonable considering my friend is pregnant and they refused to remove the hollandaise sauce... not sure why they ‘needed’ to pour hollandaise in it. Waitress was a bit condescending and unhelpful. Rest of the food was ok.
Will be back for dinner but maybe not weekend brunch.
Excellent happy hour. Was seated for two at the bar- our server was great. Busy place, nice vibe and will return.
This was only my second time here (my first time was three years ago) and the food was amazing. We had sliders, tempura kale, Brussels sprouts, sausage rolls, and cocktails. Everything was delicious and I can’t wait to come back!
Our server was great, as was the food!
Is this the greatest restaurant in Calgary? Yes. Do I spend too much time here? Also yes.
They truly do rush you out. Totally ridiculous - every 5 minutes the waitress is pushing you to move along. You actually do get only 2 hours. We brought friends from out of town and will never go back.
Great atmosphere! The tables are close and the room is high energy (fairly loud). The staff was fantastic - very knowledgeable & friendly. Loved our meals with lots of interesting flavours and nice presentation. Will definitely return!
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! Eat sliders.
Sliders were delicious! The duck fat fries was amazing, very big portion but definitely worththe price you pay, I would say 1 portion of fries is good for 2 ppl to share. Food was amazing, I reccomend the lamb slider and duck fat fries!!
AMAZING FOOD! Go hungry so you can eat more. The flavours are great and layered excellently. The calamari is crisp and delicious, the sliders, great, the Po boy slider in particular, excellent flavour. The chipotle slider was rather spicy, but still delicious. Our whole party had nothing but positive things to say about the food. It was very energetic inside.
Food was disappointing. Have been here a few times before and food is normally incredible. Everything at the table seemed very under seasoned. Both the parsnips and kale were very greasy and over-fried (I’ve had both these dishes before and normally they are fantastic - tonight they seemed like something I’d get at a fast food chain.) drinks were really good. Service was ok - food was brought to our table inconsistently and one of our party had to wait five minutes for their dish after the rest of the table had been served and no explanation was offered.
Drinks were fantastic
From the moment we sat down until when we left we felt pressured and rushed like we were just a number and needed to eat fast and get out for the next guest. Very disappointing after we brought our friends to show them one of our favorite restaurants.
Cleaver does not disappoint! Food, atmosphere and service were great, and we will be back!
Happy hour specials Monday - Thursday 3-7 amazing!
There is no name or address on the building, just a cleaver mounted on the outer wall. 2 friends and I came for 4 pm dinner on Easter Sunday, so it was rather quiet, people-wise. Music overhead was loud so the waitress did turn down the volume for us. A first clue to unique presentation was the tin can of cutlery and a chipped enamel cup full of quite spicy popcorn. The sausage rolls suggested by the server were tasty; although somewhat greasy. With no plates, the grease just dripped onto the paper menus. One friend was served the delicious salmon/tortellini in a chipped enamel shallow plate. My very good and flavourful seared tuna was served in--a tuna can! with lettuce on the side, all on a cutting board and the other friend had 2 sliders--buttermilk chicken and a huge meatball in between the small bun, secured with a wooden skewer and served on an old cutting board. He said they were very good. Service was attentive; although the main dishes were a bit slow in arriving. The waitress did say that the kitchen just opened at 4 pm.
Went for Sunday brunch! Delicious food was fast the environment was lovely and great service
Eggs Benny was great
The menus look like they were drug down the ally. I get that might be part of the atmosphere but there is something to say about cleanliness. Otherwise I liked the place
Our server tonight make this experience truly. She recommended the beef cheek ravioli with 55 min egg and it was to die for! So good. Cocktails were amazing as usual.
Great energy but still intimate enough to enjoy conversation
Very pleasant experience. Our waiter was amazing and accommodating. Will go back :)
Food was delicious and they were very accommodating with my pregnant wife. Also, they prepared really tasty mocktails!
The service was average, the waitress kept trying to take away our still uneaten food to get us out as we were told that we were past our 2 hour "window" for the reservation & they had another reso coming in half an hour. No line up that we could see.
Four adult women, with money to spend, a bill of over $250 plus two had just ordered another glass of wine and we were contemplating dessert etc. I guess they must be really busy and not need our business.
The food was FANTASTIC! I highly recommend getting the brussel sprouts!
It was very very loud, and the smoke from one of the cocktails was not my favourite, but the food and the drinks were great.
It's also quite dark inside, so you might want to have the menu loaded up on your phone ;)
Great ambience and decor. Service was great to start then server stopped coming by. Food took too long to arrive (felt like an hour).
Our table was by the opened terrasse doors, we were freezing! The food was good! We took 2 desserts, a person had time to eat it all and the second one was not arrived yet. When we asked, we were told twice it was gonna take 1-2 minutes. Finally got it and the donuts were too much fried. They charged for that dessert. The music was so loud we couldn’t hear well what the server told us at several occasions. We would go back just for the food.
Service was slow at the beginning but it definitely sped up
I brought family there to meet my boyfriend. we disappointed with how we were treated. From waiting forever for coffee, to being told we can't make any adjustments to any of the food which makes no sense if you have people with allergies, the gravy with the waffles was cold and thick as jelly, I didn't have any syrup at all to use instead but I didn't dare ask in case that offended the chef. Then to top it all off as soon as we settled the bill because we were pushed into it, we were asked to LEAVE before we were even done our drinks? What a wildly disappointing brunch and what atrocious service. It was like thanks we got your money, now get out. All five of us were blown away, the visit made your owner's look really really greedy and egotistical and rude
Food was delicious and great for sharing - ordered a couple rounds of Breads & Sliders to fill us up
