At our restaurant we create and interpret the culinary ideas inspired from different cultures, products, and techniques. Our always evolving menu is a result of the interaction and interchange of different experiences.
An open kitchen, eclectic and without limitations.
Because cooking is our passion.
Historically cooking evolved through the interaction and exchange of cultures. Through this premise and advances in technology our project, Cocina Abierta, was born, designed for the sharing and development for our passion.
Cocina Abierta is a restaurant and school.
Terrific green curry and local seafood. Tasty ravioli. Perfect focaccia. Beautiful presentation. Staff knowledgeable and understanding of excellent service and experience. Go. Eat. Excellent buy.
We visited Cocina Abierta on a Thursday in September, so the restaurant was not full. The decor is quirky and interesting - the tables well spaced. The menu changes each week, depending on the market. I had a red bean soup (delicious) and the fish special with a tamarind sauce (outstanding). The fish was one of the best prepared fish dishes I have enjoyed in years. Service was attentive and friendly.
Buena comida, excelente servicio, agradable personal. Lo disfrutamos mucho.
Hands down, the best meal we’ve ever had. Fine dining quality food, without the insane price tag. 10/10 recommend...we WILL be returning on our next visit!
A "must dine restaurant" when visiting Puerto Rico.
I've eaten at Cocina Abierta at least 8 times with family and friends. i have never been disappointed.
The food was sensational, from flavor to presentation!
Fantastic, as always!
It was amazing! Every course was delicious and our server was great....would recommend this restaurant as a must do when in San Juan!
Rhis is from everyday dining to date/special occasions. Food is superb, lovely plated, good portions and priced accordingly. Highly recommended.
Love that has vegetarian options as well🙏🏼❤️
Offers truly inventive cuisine in an energetic, no frills atmosphere. I was guided by a knowledgeable server through the menu, which presents selections in five "acts." I thoroughly enjoyed the tuna on a sheet of platano with a variety of accents. Then I tried the "roots" vegetable assemblage, which was beautiful and remarkably diverse in the flavors it presented. The mofongo with Peking duck, pork and platanos was memorable. The two wines that were paired with the tuna and the mofongo were perfect. Service was pleasant and attentive. I came away satisfied, feeling as though I had made a new friend. I will return.
Hello JimBo, We're in awe! Thank you so much for joining us and highlighting your favorite dishes. Hope to hear from you again soon!
Excellent food - from their in-house focaccia, to their octopus causa, to their drinks...And the place has a very robust brunch...and the interior design is on point if you like that darker hipper vibe. Will be returning.
This was my second visit to Cocina Abierta and it was amazing. The food extraordinary, the service helpful, attentive and friendly and the overall experience a pleasure. The dishes were all made with careful attention to balance of flavor and texture, and the portions were generous for the quality. We shared our dishes including mofonguitos, Caribbean lobster thermador, and gnocchi. The dishes are organized into “acts” so your meal begins with light dishes and progresses to more robust flavors and more substantial plates. We would have loved to try their desserts, but even though we shared all the dishes, we just didn’t have room. Our server introduced us to Martin, the owner/chef who is an absolute gentleman and artist in his craft. We look forward to our next visit!
Our rainforest hiking (and rappelling) guide recommended this restaurant and we are so glad he did! We ate there one week ago, August 4th, on our last night of vacation.
Service was outstanding as were the drinks and food!
We had ceviche, tuna tartare, octopus and Lamb Wellington. It was all delicious and the presentation was awesome.
Creative food with nice ambiance
Best combo of food and service that we’ve had so far in Puerto Rico. We’ll be back very soon.
Excellent food and service... Gabriela is an excellent waitress
The portions are perfect. We ordered mofongo with duck, raviolis and chicken thighs.
The mofongo was delicious
The chicken was ok - it would have been betterif they had removed the skin
The raviolis were “meh” could’ve done that at home
Dessert was awful. We had starfruit cake, it tasted like carrot cake. The avocado icecream wasn’t my cup of tea but somebody in our group said that it was ok. However, the cake had some kind of cream that was under the cake. It tasted rancid. I couldn’t take a bite without thinking that it was expires milk.
The appetizer was amazing. We had spinach croquettes. They were delicious!!
Drinks: they don’t have red wine by the bottle but they do have it by glass. However white wine, rose wine and sparkling wine are available both ways.
Cocktails: we tried the margaritas, it was delicious and a drink called la vie en rose which was ok.
According to the waitress the idea of the restaurant is to share dishes but on a group as diverse as mine that was impossible.
Will be back when they change the seasonal menu.
One of our favorite San Juan restaurants!
Good food and great service.
La comida y el servicio fue excelente. Definitivamente esta altamente recomendado y regreso. Las atenciones fueron excelente.
Excellent!! Good food, great atmosphere and friendly service.
I booked this restaurant because of the ambiance, reviews, and the romantic setting to propose to my now fiancé. I could not have chosen a better location. The staff was amazing and helped make an already perfect trip even better. Highly recommend.
Food was delicious! There were plenty of choices to accommodate my dietary restrictions (gluten free). The grouper was so fresh, the preparation of the plantain very unique, and I need to re-create the kale salad at home!!
Amazing menu and my only regret is not being able to try more (though we did save room for dessert)! Service was exceptional - our server explained the courses and how everything worked and was very helpful in making suggestions.
Great food and service
The food was very, very good. We both had seafood dishes and each selection was local to the Caribbean and could not have been any fresher. Our waiter was very attentive. An excellent wine list. Outdoor dining is a little noisy due to a generator running nearby, but the cuisine and service are so good, you don’t notice the noise that much. We will definitely return.
This was one of the best restaurants I ate at in Puerto Rico. My husband and I had the croquettes and focaccia bread. The mushroom butter was amazing! The "roots" were also super good and so was the ricotta gnocchi. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
We ordered tuna tatake, octopus terrine and butternut squash. All were excellent, surpassed my expectations. Portions were generous and these three dishes filled us up. We decided to come to this restaurant at the last moment and we are glad that we made it. The restaurant is conveniently located pretty much across from Marriott and very popular despite it was Monday night. If you are looking for casual dining with creative cuisine, I highly recommend this restaurant.
One of the best restaurants anywhere, and certainly at the top in San Juan.
Great food. The cusine is very creative and with a lot of flavor. And the service is outstanding. Highly recommended.
Hi RicardoR, Thank you for considering us. Hope to see you again in the near future, CHEERS!
Everything about the dinning experience was amazing. The server, Óne, was amazing. He guided us through our dining experience very well. I was defiantly a night to remember.
Wait staff superb. knew how to time each plate. Knowledgeable regarding menu and ingredients.
The service was slow. We ordered a local fish, one service for 2 and the price was $50. Was not told about the price beforehand, which was too expensive
The brunch was excellent, we have been going to Cocina Abierta for years, and we love it! But they need to do something about the AC, it’s always warm inside, and they brunch area in the back too hot. The food is always great, and also the service, but the temperature is pretty annoying.
We arrived and I had been told that it would be a bar seating but it was 4 of us so I emphasized on making sure it was a shared table type not a bar seating towards the bartender.
Well, it was not what we requested. They sat us outside right next to a huge generator which was on because the next door establishment had no electricity. Terrible noise, and very, very hot.
Food was average, not memorable. I ordered the Rest Week offer for vegetarians, not good.
This used to be a very good restaurant, not sure what happened. Too sad!
Air conditioning problems does not help us to have the best experience. The space feels too hot & humid. Also the valet parking must be properly training, do not open any car door and was not aware that we intent to leave, I have to go to him to request my keys. If the Restaurant provide the valet with a cost the service of the employees shall be outstanding. But in my opinion the restaurant costs are high enough to offer the valet parking as a complementary service.
The best meal we’ve had in Puerto Rico! Outstanding flavor profiles, presentation and menu. We had a group of 7 and each ordered 2 dishes to share, and it was absolutely amazing.
Amazing food and drinks! Quiet spot and great staff!
Hello ManishaC, Thanks for the kind words. Hope to hear from you again soon!
Every bit of our experience was amazing!! Highly recommend the short rib empanadilla if its on the menu - also the ribeye was delish and the gnocchi was to due for!! Lastly, we had the bread pudding and the key lime and the key lime was the best hands down!!
Hi LisaMarie373, We're happy that your experience at Cocina Abierta was amazing. Hope to hear from you again in the near future, Cheers!
