    Positives - lovely outdoor setting, enjoyed the wine, the charred Brussel sprouts and chicken kebob were delicious. Negatives - Error by waitress with one of our orders resulted in one in our group eating after the rest of us were basically done; steak and frites entree was very mediocre - should put fries in a separate container instead of swimming in the awful sauce getting soggy.

    I would like to see a more complete dinner menu approaching the level of fine dining. Since you are open during the dinner hour, the option for a beef or Ribeye Steak dinner and a fine fish like Grouper or Sea Bass on the menu would allow you to upgrade your food service.

    My review would be for five stars if they hadn’t taken The Shelby off the menu! As repeat patrons, we were all looking forward to having The Shelby for lunch (turkey w/Brie, apple slices, cranberry sauce) and were disappointed to find it is no longer offered. Bring it back and we’ll be back!

    I had a 1:00pm reservation, arrived 15 minutes earlier and was seated and checked in immediately. Enjoyed the brunch meal. The BloodyMary was excellent!

    Great food, good wine, the service was somewhat lacking. We had to wait for water and wine several times during our dining experience, and the waitress forgot part of our wine order. When one is at an outdoor bistro on a hot day that is connected to a winery, customers should not be in a situation in which both their wine and water glasses are empty for a prolonged period, and they are being ignored by the wait staff.

    A little disappointed that the dining room was closed for an event which wasn't mentioned when I made the reservation. Fortunately, it was a beautiful day and eating outside was quite lovely. We wanted to do something nice with our out of town relatives and decided to visit Cross keys for lunch. It was very nice!

    Enjoyed the lunch. Food was delicious. Our waitress “Millie” was outstanding. She was super friendly, knowledgeable attentive without being overbearing. We loved her. Wine was delicious. We will be back

    CrossKeys Bistro is on the grounds of Crosskeys Vineyards in the Shenandoah Valley. It is in a beautiful setting. For Brunch, the food choices were excellent wit,h great service. An added attraction is the view.

    The menu has changed with new chef! Food was good but would suggest bringing back a few originals with his own spin/touch. A good burger is always a must item. Perhaps something similar to the old shelby(one of my favorites). Would definitely add some type of barbecue whether pork or beef. Over all food was good. Was not fond of the policy; for a party of 12, server could only write four tickets to process for paying. If this is due to the amount of time it takes to process credit cards, perhaps designate one person to handle all the paying process for the evening, sort of like a bartender makes all the drinks so server can focus on serving. The evening was very nice and we all love Jimmy O!!

    Cross Keys Winery is a beautiful, idyllic setting that rivals the European countryside. The Bistro had all outdoor seating to celebrate their Finally Friday event which featured live music by Jimmy O. Although it was Jimmy’s music that drew us to this particular event, we were delighted with the variety of offerings on the menu, as well as the fun of trying some of the Cross Keys refreshing wines. Although the menu included some familiar favorites, each item seemed to have a unique melange of delicious ingredients. I had Shawarma, which was a Middle Eastern dish, similar to the Greek gyro. It was full of fresh, colorful veggies and succulent chicken, served with some of the best fries I’ve ever had. Service was a bit slow, but why come to a winery for music and dinner if you are in a hurry? We enjoyed a truly relaxing and beautiful evening. We can’t wait to go back!

    This was not our first time here but it was the first time the food was not the best. My hubby’s food was excellent but my chicken (chicken and waffles) was extremely over cooked and dry. That being said, we will definitely come back.

    We booked the Mothers Day Buffet because we had lunch here a few weeks ago and loved it. The brunch was terrible. Flies everywhere. Food was not good. Service slow and when we asked someone to clear our plates he gave us attitude. We might try again for lunch but never the buffet again. Ambiance 10!

    When we arrived our reserved table for 10 was not ready , they had to go ask where it was and ultimately shoved 2 more chairs into a round table for 8 to make it 10 top off in a corner. Every time anyone on the back 5 had to get up everyone had to move. We had 2 separate checks - 5per person and it was buffet style yet were charged 20% gratuity on each check and of course told that at the end when checks came out. If they would of told us ahead of time that gratuity was added to a buffet of 5 people per check when our table wasn’t even ready we would have left and if charged on credit card disputed it.

    We went for a fixed price graduation dinner at $75/person. Everything was picked over and not being replenished when we got there. Wildly disappointing for $100 per plate after we each had a glass of wine. It’s a pretty venue but this was a bad choice on my part.

    Attended CrossKeys Bistro JMU graduation buffet dinner. The ambiance was beautiful. We waited outside a bit enjoying the gorgeous view before the tables were ready and then shown to our seats in the dining room. The service was excellent. We did get a bottle of wine that was delicious. The buffet dinner was expansive, something for everyone with a gorgeous presentation and plenty of choices. We were not rushed and able to enjoy a fabulous dinner and celebrate our graduate.

    I ate here for my graduation brunch with my family- I was happily surprised at the quality of food, venue, etc. I felt as if I was at a wedding venue! My family & I agreed that we would not have had such a wonderful experience anywhere else. We will definitely be returning for any special events.

    Went to graduation. I don’t mind paying high prices at all if the food and service is great. The buffet was running out of food and the prime rib was basically mooing (should have been embarrassed to serve cold meat). The pasta station was the best option. The desserts were all picked through and we were told there wasn’t more to put out. For spending 100/person, the food needs to be fresh. Don’t accept 7pm reservation if it can’t be accommodated.

    DEFIANTLY not worth $75.00 a person. Meat was chewy, pasta overcooked, shrimp way too fishy smelling, food tasteless and not much on the buffet. Chafing Dishes were less than half full not only when we went up but are guest friends who came later also. Desert so small not a nice variety. Said they were out of vanilla ice cream, til we complained and insisted then it magically appeared. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Waste of money. Could have eaten for half the money and enjoyed it anywhere else.

    We participated in the JMU Graduation dinner buffet. The set up of the dining area was festive and lovely, the food was amazing and the staff very friendly. So glad we made the decision to book this reservation. It was the perfect end to graduation day.

    Graduation dinner with a family of 10 people was perfect! Bright and airy even on an overcast day! The buffet for graduation was outstanding., the appetizer charcuterie and spiced shrimp were abundant and then there was an entire other room of main course choices including prime rib. Everything was flavorful, well prepared and perfect temperature. Wine flights were available in the tasting room and glasses and bottles at that table. A festive delicious way to celebrate our JMU graduate!

    Ambience was beautiful. Food was mediocre at best for the price they charged.(JMU grad buffet) Should have been a much bigger selection. Not allergy friendly. Our server was not attentive while other tables received constant attention from their servers. Stick to the outside menu selection with a gorgeous view and you’ll be fine.

    Fantastic JMU Graduation Celebration! We had a 1 pm reservation on Friday, May 12th for 8 people. It was a beautiful day and we were lucky enough to have an outside table under the main building overhand (so we were in the shade). Nelson was our server and was so friendly and super attentive. A really great young man. The buffet was delicious. A great selection of different foods (charcuterie, shrimp, crab legs, prime rib, cod, short rib, chicken, salads, dessert, etc.) I appreciated that Cross Keys only had 2 seatings that day, so we were able to sit, relax and enjoy our family while sipping wine and enjoying the spectaular view for 3 hours! Over the last 4 years, while our daughter has been a student at JMU, Cross Keys has been our go to place. So it was most fitting that we got to celebrate our last big event there! Thank you to the Cross Keys staff for always providing 5 Star food, service and atmosphere! Please note, we did make this graduation reservation in January for graduation week once Cross Keys opened up reservations.

    This was an amazing experience! Of course the setting and ambiance were superb! The service was great and CK made sure that they had all hands on deck to create an experience that did not disappoint. On top of the setting, ambiance, and service, the food was unbelievable! We will be back next year for the next graduation!!
