General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream.     It was a busy holiday night and we had to wait a little more than we had planned. However, our server was wonderful. She took the time to get each of our orders and came back to check on us throughout the night, asking if we wanted anything else and brought us more water for the table. The food was absolutely excellent! 10/10 ratings from all my friends who came to the table. Would definitely eat there again.

    Sam our server was fantastic, she truly made the experience work. And to the team at the door who kept my reservation despite us being late due to ridiculous Toronto traffic, I couldn’t be more grateful. The night could’ve been difficult with a disabled parent and another parent who is just high maintenance but the staff had us sorted so seamlessly I couldn’t be more appreciative. We made our show and didn’t need to rush or stress despite the extra needs. Thank you so much to all involved. Sincerely, Claire.

    Perfect location for a group of ladies to split some appetizers, pub grub and bevvies before catching a show at Mirvish. Menus were a bit sticky. When we first arrived, there seemed to be some issues with staffing, but the second person that took care of us was outstanding.(not sure what happened to the first one I think she went on break or left or something?) food was tasty and cooked as to what we would’ve expected.  not outstanding or anything but absolutely perfect pub experience. Would recommend.
