Atmosphere very relaxing, service was exceptional, food was tasty and well presented
Went with my husband for our anniversary, which we shared with the staff member who took our coats. Each staff member after that congratulated us on the occasion. Through the whole meal, we were made to feel special and valued. We are planning on making a visit to Cut part of our annual anniversary date.
My wife and I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott last Friday and had a meal in the CUT Steakhouse in the evening - they share the same building. I had booked ahead online and mentioned on the form it was our wedding anniversary. We arrived and were seated in one of the best tables next to the window overlooking Halifax harbour. We were brought a glass of sparkling wine on the house and the staff congratulated us on our anniversary - clearly they took notice of the short note I had written. We had a starter, main and dessert (decorated specially for us which was a nice surprise) and it all was incredible - exquisite tastes and textures. This is a premium dining experience so the emphasis is on quality; of course there is a cost but if you want to experience some of the best steaks you will ever eat this is it. The staff were incredibly professional and absolutely on the ball with everything, clearly they have been trained to a very high level and it shows. I would highly recommend dining at the CUT, it's a sublime experience.
It was a lovely dinner. The ambiance was perfect. The food was perfectly cooked and service was superb.
Excellent evening. Out to celebrate a special occasion with friends. Service was great. Food was excellent. Staff went over and above for the occasion. Very attentive. The small details made the difference. Definitely will return.
Really enjoyed the meal and wait staff was excellent
Outstanding service. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. We were disappointed in the quality of their meat. Considering the location and the treatment by the staff, we would return but not for their steaks.
Excellent service and elegant, quiet, and relaxing ambiance. Salmon tartar was excellent but the tenderloin was mediocre. Overpriced.
Had a great time, we all really enjoyed our food. It was a great way to start the bachelor party!
The Staff were exceptional. Considering all factors I do not think that the high prices are justified.
Amazing food, the staff are so friendly , they do not rush you, they are very knowledgeable on the food & wine. Love the atmosphere
We have visited The Cut as a family for many years now. This is the first time the service was sub par.
We had 3 different servers touch the table and two of them were magnificent. Unfortunately the third was brash and rude to put it mildly.
As a guest, I do not expect to be treated or talked to by a server in a rude and condescending manner. Trying to push our mains on us because "the steaks need to rest" is completely false.
Yes, steaks do need to rest properly granted, but not for 45 minutes. We asked for appetizers and then a break as we were catching up as a family. This was made clear to all 3 servers and 2 respected the request.
As we had made our intentions very clear to all 3 servers, it was extremely disappointing for the third server to try and push his ideal service on us.
Unfortunately, I am not confident in recommending The Cut to others anymore after this service.
We learned about this restaurant in a pamphlet about Halifax restaurant. The description eg "sublime service" and decor suggested that it would be a special experience and a good place to celebrate our anniversary.
It was disappointing at the outset to be lead to a table on the side, after I specifically requested a table in a quiet corner (so I could communicate with my partner). I then saw an empty table for 4 in the corner and we sat down there. That was fortunate, considering that the music volume was too high.
The service was excellent. Staff are well trained to be attentive to the customers every need. We appreciated the snacks and bread in advance of the dinner.
Our steaks were cooked to perfection, although not tenderized as indicated in the advertising. It was surprising to see that side dishes were at an additional cost to the main course of a tenderloin steak. But we shared the sides of baked potato and vegetables.
Given that we were celebrating our anniversary, it would have been a nice touch to receive maybe a free drink or dessert. (the kitchen has written out "Anniversary" on our dessert plate).
Access to the washroom was not convenient with the choice of two flights of stairs or a staff operated elevator.
Finally appreciated, the free banana bread packs on our way out. Maybe, could have been given to us at the end of our meal.
Prices were too high considering some of inconveniences we experienced.
We took our daughter out for her birthday. The cost was astronomical $995 for 6 adults and 2 children. They charged us for cocktails we didn’t have. I tried the USDA 8 oz striploin for $40+ waa kind of tough. We had a better steak last night + wine for $60.
A very enjoyable experience. The service was excellent. The food was well presented & very tasteful.
Agradable, muy Buena carne, muy buen servicio, cada visita a Halifax venimos a cenar aquí en familia
It was a great experience..steak was great and service was excellent!
The waiters and staff are outstanding especially Johnathan his attention to detail is great . The restaurant its self is in a super location . Being from NB staying at the Marriot and having access to such good restaurants is a real treat.
The wait staff were very attentive, knowledgeable and worked very well as a team. They took the time to make both our occasion for dining (FIL's 80th birthday) and our 12 yo son feel special. All our meal choices were delicious (RO Lamb, Striploin & Tenderloins) and it was obvious the food was expertly prepared. We shared sides and had plenty to go round. Our only negative experience was the M'd was somewhat patronizing (perhaps new/uncomfortable in his role?). We're definitely planning to return to CUT.
Excellent, personalized service. Pristine table setting and expedient service. Live music ( piano) would add to the ambiance
Food prices were not reasonable at all 60$ for a steak and no sides? Make your prices more competitive and maybe there would be full seats .... age drying is not that big of a deal
we went to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. It had a lovely ambience and romantic decor. we were seated early which was great but the restaurant was pretty much empty and they sat us right in the middle of the restaurant. the music was a bit too loud and the table and chairs were awkward so we were too far from each other. the service was good but when we asked the price of our steak she told us a different price than what we were charged. Also, we definitely did not get what we paid for. we ordered the tomahawk steak to share which was supposedly 32 Oz but was far smaller. We had 3 glasses of wine, the steak, 2 sides and a creme brulee. 300.00 bill which would be fine if is was top notch.
Beautiful restaurant in the heart of downtown Halifax. One of the few places which is truly upscale and has exceptional service and ambience. Always a great experience.
Highly recommend requesting Johnathan as your server. It was our first time and he made the experience that much better. Best customer service I have had ever experienced. Very genuine.
Steak was good however my wife's steak was done more than she preferred (medium rare). Not a big issue as we did not complain to our server.
Second time frequenting was this steakhouse. One of The best restaurants I’ve been to and the experience is second To none.
Nice meal, nice service.
High quality food in an ambient environment, what more could you ask for?
I suppose my only disappointment was that desserts didn’t appeal this time.
Oh well. I enjoyed the striploin and my wife loved her shrimp.
I was honestly underwhelmed by my steak. I have eaten a lot of steak in my life and the steak that arrived on my plate had zero appeal. It was pale with very faint grill marks and just looked "blah". While it was indeed tender, it was not terribly flavorful. I think for the price, it could have a much better sear and seasoning. Our vegetables were warm at best and again, not seasoned well.
The service was impeccable, I can't say enough about the servers. They would be the only reason I would recommend this restaurant. I think for less money you can have a much better steak elsewhere. Service alone cannot carry this place.
We had a wonderful dining experience with excellent service.
Cut is THE BEST Steak House we've ever tried. Better by far than Ruth Chris', Morton's, or Shula's. Everything you'd want and expect in this kind of pricy a'la'carte environment, and even then it exceeded expectations. Food, front staff, wait staff, room, and bartender - all superb.
Delicious food every time. Price is way too high.
Would bring in more customers with an overall price cut of 15%.
Good stakes, side plates over priced and undersized. Not good value for money.
This wasn't bad, but it was very expensive. I have eaten at expensive restaurants before, and often find that they are worth the price -- but in this case, I would not say so. In addition to the meal itself being just good, the service was very slow -- I can accept a 20-minute wait for my entree, but not for dessert or the bill.
I certainly would not go there again.
Aaron, Matt and the crew are the best and treated us so well. Mike, Sue, and Lynn and I really enjoyed ourselves - as always. Fantastic.
It was a beautiful restaurant with excellent service. That being said, the steaks were pretty average for the price. I am an Albertan so I know good steak. My bone in rib eye was under seasoned so quite bland. The sides which are a la carte we're tiny! Our 12$ mashed potatoes were so small our table of 4 (2 kids 2 adults) only got about 2 tablespoons each .. so, for the $300 we spent it was a so so dining experience. If they really want to know how to do it right, go to chucks in Banff .. they'll show you
I'm not exaggerating with the language I use. Eating their Wagyu ribeye with foix gras on top was an emotional experience. I have never had food cause me to have to stop and take a moment and collect myself. The steak cut like butter, I could have used a butter knife. Even the fat tasted good. The foix gras made it even more rich and added another level of flavor. I can't recall any meal I've had where the food itself was an experience that I will carry with me. Cut has given me something I didn't think possible.
The fiddleheads, shrimp and potatoes were also excellent. But that steak was really just something you have to experience yourself. I can't really describe it except to say it did something to me I didn't know food could do.
Good selection of quality food items. Very attentive and polished service. Wife and I enjoyed a fine meal. Wife isn’t really into steak but found the cut and flavour, especially when mixed with the garlic & onion side, dish very enjoyable.
Use to be our favourite restaurant, quality down substantially. Service was just ok.
The appetizers were great but the main course was a disappointment. Over cooked and over seasoned
We had a wonderful meal. Everything here is done to perfection. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and extremely professional. Our server was very attentive, but, not to the point of being annoying. Our steaks were delicious and done just as we requested. This is a beautiful restaurant. A bit expensive so we couldn't do it often, but it is certainly worth it to treat yourself to a meal here. There was nothing we would have changed. Also, the little banana bread they gave us when leaving was delicious and such a nice touch.
