Cyclone’s is a regular part of my family’s choices in restaurants, but on this occasion we had my husband’s sister, brother & his partner, all from out of town, going out for dinner with us. They all loved the food, etc., & of course, my husband & I were not disappointed. From the friendliness of the host staff to the patience of our server, a great experience all around.
Saturday, January 12, 2019, reservation for 5, night of a snow storm, the restaurant was not busy. A member of the group asked what was on draft. The machine was broken, no draft beer. Another member asked for a frozen adult beverage, that machine was broken as well. The food and drinks we did get, were good, the waitress, Ch........, not so much. She went missing for awhile, had to ask if they could send her over to our table. We paid with three credit cards, she stated one of the cards was declined. A second card was presented, it was also declined. After, some thinking by the group, we figured out that the two cards were swiped and not pushed into the credit card machine. When asked, the waitress stated their credit card machines did not have the insert card option. Cash was paid for a portion of the meal. In one visit, the draft beer tap was out of service, the frozen drink maker was not working, and they have not upgraded to the more secure credit card chip reader. I would give this restaurant a second chance in another six months, hoping that they can provide the services they advertise in their menu. I am not a fan of the lack in credit card security, I will plan to bring cash next time and maybe sit in a different section with a better server.
We went for my daughter’s 19th bday with family and friends. The service was terrible! The drinks took way too long to arrive. Our food came out at different times and only 5 out of 10 dishes were correct. We won’t be back.
We had good meals, although the kids quesadilla was not great. The fish tacos, soft tacos and enchilada were nicely prepared and tasted great. Service started off a bit slow but improved. All in all, a good meal and would go back.
A friend from Houston recommended Cyclone Anaya's as one of her favorite restaurants. (The only other location is in Houston.) Our family dined here on New Year's Eve and the food and beverages lived up to her glowing review. We look forward to returning soon.
My husband and I dined here on New Year’s Eve since it had open reservations last minute, but we can’t wait to go again because it was delicious and the service was great! My blueberry coconut Mojito was especially wonderful!
Sunday brunch with my girlfriends. Menu options were varied and everyone was happy with their choices. My Poinsettia cocktail was good bu not sparkling cranberry as it could have been. Service was EXCELLENT and we felt very much appreciated. Definitely try Cyclone Anaya!
Expect little. Bizarre rear seating area in front of server prep station. Uggo. Who does that? $10 guacamole tasted like a mashed avocado- with no flavor at all. Margaritas on the rocks tasted watery. Entree was meh. Hard pass
Honestly the only thing that gives this place 4 rather than 5 stars is the fact that twice in two/three weeks I haven't been able to get a frozen margarita. The main reason I'm craving this pace is the good but also the margaritas. I don't prefer them if they're not frozen. But worst of all is this time not only was the margarita not frozen, but it was on the rocks and warm not cold. 😐
Very poor service, to the point I had to arrange to pay the ticket myself as wait staff were non-existent.
Love food at this place! The portions are sized just the way I like it, and great appetizers
Been here years ago when they first opened. When I came back lately, services & food was degraded. Bathroom is dirty and needs an upkeep. Bathroom reflects the cleanliness of kitchen, a dirty bathroom means a dirty kitchen!
The food was “meh” at best. Chicken in the tacos was suuuuper dry and bland. The salsa was the only notable food item there.
Great service and the food was good for Mexican. A little loud and server got distracted but probably b/c so busy.
Food was OK, but just OK. One of the benches in the booth we sat in had a tear in the vinyl covered seat cushion. Appetizer took quite a while to arrive. Server was courteous and prompt in taking care of us.
Good was terrible. The were no working restrooms.
Food is always great but our service was horrible. To be fair I’ve never really had an issue before with service but this time we brought friends with us and I was embarrassed. Our waitress was inattentive and lackadaisical. She got our order wrong and then told us that we had ordered wrong? We didn’t get silverware until 5 minutes after our food had arrived only after I got up to ask a hostess - who then proceeds to just hand us all dripping wet silverware with no cloth napkins...or even paper napkins. I was definitely disappointed.
My BF & I had a quick dinner on Saturday night right before a movie. We lucked out that evening as we were able to sit outside and enjoyed the nice September weather. Service started prompt, but towards the end our server disappeared. We had to get the bartender to locate a manager in order to pay the tab so we wouldn't be late for out movie. We had told our server at the beginning that we had a movie to catch.
Food was very delicious. I got the Summer sampler(?) and my BF got the Ahi Tuna tacos.
Was disappointed that the Cucumber Margarita, the monthly Margarita special was not available the night we order it, due them running out of cucumbers at around 6:45PM on a Saturday night. We had both order it, but ended up ordering something else instead.
We brought customers here for dinner. The service was extremely slow and the food was not hot when it came to the table. Not a great experience overall.
Staff and waiter were so kind and considerate. We celebrated a friend birthday and they came out with a slice of cake for him. Overall a great dinner with friends!
Service was very good, I reserved for 12:15p.m. and when we arrived staff were ready for us. Food was good.
Good atmosphere, with decent spicy guacamole.
Pretty much the worst Mexican food experience. Service was slow even though the restaurant was empty. The appetizers were ridiculously small. We got the guacamole and it was maybe one avocado in a tiny bowl and we had 6 people! The only reason we went was for frozen margaritas and the machine was broken we were told. No apology, just it’s broken. The food was subpar too. I wondered why it was so empty on Friday night at Mosaic and now I know. We’ll be going to a better place next time, like Uncle Julio’s or Chuys.
This is the 2nd visit here. The first time was just after opening so I thought I would give them another chance. The food was ok. The service the same. The restaurant was dirty. Not a fan. Won't go back again
Food was amazing but I will not return because the music was OBNOXIOUSLY loud! My friend and I could not hear each other across the table. They were the only restaurant in Mosaic that was not packed for dinner, and now I know why. If they kept the music at a normal level, their business would definitely increase.
Only table in restaurant with customers. Service was poor - had to get own silverware, ask for plates for shared appetizers. Food was mediocre.
We were very disappointed in Cyclone Anaya's from the moment we arrived until we left. When we arrived, on time for our 7 pm reservation, there was one hostess and already several people waiting to speak to her. She had her back to us and was on the phone - for 10 minutes. She didn't acknowledge our presence or apologize or say anything. Then she got off the phone and walked away saying "just a minute". Very annoying. Finally someone else came and sat us. Then the waiter was clearly stressed and stopped by to say he would be back - and didn't return for at least 10 minutes. Another guy came to take our order and was very nice but dressed in an open sleeve tank top - didn't seem very professional. Our food took a very long time. And twice we ordered sodas that turned out not to have any syrup in them. When the food finally came it was tasty, but not enough to outweigh the bad service. We won't return.
We were a bit skeptical due to the number of negative reviews regarding service but we were pleasantly surprised! We dined when the restaurant wasn't very busy (8p on a Sunday evening) and the service was quite good. Our server was very pleasant and was just attentive enough that are needs were met but we didn't feel smothered. Our entrees were good and the portion size not overwhelming. The chips were okay but I prefer chips with a bit of salt and these (like those at most restaurants now) were completely void of salt but this is not a deal breaker for me.
Forgot I had written this review same time in 2017: "Sloooow service, loud speaker directly over my table, dirty bathrooms and generally mild/lackluster food. Won't be returning." Same this time and it's no wonder the place was half full when all the other restaurants there were packed. Fool me once...
The host gave us a warm welcoming smile. Our booth seating was cozy. The menu was full of delicious options.
Our waitperson was attentive and professional, friendly and prompt.
We really enjoyed our visit and had a wonderful time.
The only improvement I would make would make: please offer a la carte options more readily. We ordered appetizers, then I wanted only one taco carbon, but the kitchen sent a full order, with the waitperson apologizing that that was the only way it could be served. Sometimes you just don't want all that food at once! Seems wasteful.
Terrible service, roof was leaking and had to relocate tables 3 times.
Food and service were great but surprisingly the margaritas were not. Roasted jalapeño margarita was not spicy at all and cyclone margarita just tasted like tequila.
The service was very slow. Drinks took about 30 min, someone else ended up coming to check on us out original server Cesar never came back he was literally just the one who took our drink orders. Then we flagged down a waitress who took our food order, and had to flag down a different waiter to bring us the check. I took a trip to the restroom and the restaurant didn’t appear to be that busy for me to be understanding of the wait times. It was my first time there not sure if this is typical or just one of those days. I had to lobster tacos and they were delicious
Staff were accommodating and brought out birthday cake complete with sparkler. A very nice surprise.
yummy... couldn't eat it all,,,, so took home doggie bags to enjoy later!
Server seemed a bit preoccupied and busy because he was behind the bar and on the floor, but he was very nice none the less! Will definitely be back and hopefully have Louis as our waiter again.
Everything started out great! Chips came right away, drinks came fast. Then once we ordered another round and entrees and more chips it took a long time. Entrees came out before drinks, and still no chips to finish our appetizer. When server checked up she realized the drink wasn’t there yet and tried to walk away however we were still waiting on other items so I then felt like I was annoying her with a list of items we needed. Drinks finally came but weren’t consistent in taste with the first round. We didn’t get dessert due to the fact that we didn’t want to wait any longer. Overall decent experience and we’ll come back but our server definitely seemed overwhelmed. Also...the marked me as a no show with OpenTable so I had to dispute that...
Complete waste of my money and time. The food was served cold, and one could easly tell the food from a pervious order was scrapped from one plate, added to another, and served. The drinks were watered down, and the margarita tasted like Kool Aid lemonade. IT WAS F-ING RIDICULOUS. The cheese on my chicken enchiladas looked like a 5 day old Elemers Glue scap. And I had to break out a jack hammer just to crack the refried beans.
The waiter couldn’t have cared less if we were there or not. It acted as if he was doing us a favor by serving us.
We've eaten here a few times. The kitchen staff is good--I find their take on Mexican/TexMex to have some nice, innovative touches. In general I would recommend this place. But on this visit, a slow and careless waitstaff took the experience down by a notch. Nothing unusual, just slow service and a forgotten "special request". One of our party was very clear about a single ingredient he couldn't tolerate; the waiter clearly understood, confirmed, and then delivered a plate covered in that ingredient. On the other hand, my "Betsy's" tamales were excellent, my wife had the 'special' tacos and enjoyed them. Bottom line--if you want excellent Mexican in the Merrifield district, the food is good but you may find the service a little inconsistent.
Despite reservation, the table was not set up. Service was also slow.
