Was turned away when I got to the restaurant. Apparently they called and I was supposed to confirm over the phone? I don't answer unknown numbers and didn't realize that my booking on open table wasn't secure. Ruined my night as I booked for my friend's birthday.
Delicious! Inventive food and good cocktails in a warm atmosphere. Great service.
Didn’t like sitting on stools at the high top table, but that was the only table available when I reserved. We all agreed we wouldn’t sit there again.
We’ve been twice and both times we’ve ordered the chef’s choice. This is excellent food and for the quality it is reasonably priced. One of our favourite restaurants in the city for sure.
Pork-shrimp dumplings were fantastic. Pork hock was just fine. Though tender, the hock’s flavour was a one-dimensional brown sugary sweeetness that not even the pickled daikon could save. But not all food is for everyone, so maybe it was just me.
The most entertaining part of the night was the server’s lack of composure. He didnt just fail to hide his annoyance that we were only in for a couple appetizers. He actively broadcast it. Since it was a 9pm on a sunday and the place was half-empty, we had a laugh at how misplaced his attitude was. We ordered, ate, paid, and left. But I get it...you want larger bills, not easy bills.
Both the food and the service was exceptional. We had 6 in our group and had the Dai Lo Choice. This is a multi-course meal and our waiter (Thomas) did a fantastic job of explaining each of the dishes and making this a memorable night for all of us.
This was our second visit to DaiLo.
We have had the Tasting Menu with each visit. Basically this means the chef decides the courses that we will receive. Our first visit was absolutely spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed each of the dishes and this led us to make a second reservation to dine with some visiting friends. This second visit was very good but not up to the same spectacular claim of the first.
Along with each visit we had the wine pairing with the Tasting Menu. Peter, their sommelier made fantastic choices for us and we thoroughly enjoyed the wine with the food. On both visits, the service level has been top notch.
Would we go back for a third visit. You bet!
Incredible food and drink, amazing service. Our favourite spot in the city. 10/10 would recommend.
Absolutely amazing experience. Everything from food to service was perfect!
We went here for a slightly spur of the moment anniversary dinner and it was amazing. We decided to do the Chefs menu and I'm not sure how but it managed to be all of my favourite things - including rendang and sticky date pudding, which are very rare in Toronto. Will definitely be back again and again.
Our server, Clayton, was friendly, professional and managed our “crazy” conversations and questions as if he was our knowledgeable best friend. Service couldn’t have been better. The pre dinner cocktails were stellar. We tried several dishes on the menu and were blown away by all of them. Each was unique and well presented. Kudos to chef Dennis Tay and his team! We’re not from Toronto, but will be sure to go back to DaiLo when we’re there next.
Great place. Love it. Took advantage of Lunar new year tasting menu.
Took 2 friends here for the first time and everyone loved it! They were having a special tasting menu this time to celebrate Chinese New Year which was a nice change to the original tasting menu. Would highly recommend to anyone who hasn't been before.
Really inventive delicious food and cool vibe. Would not recommend for vegetarians, vegans, or those on the keto diet but for every one else it’s a must-try.
Everything had lots of flavor. We got the Chinese New Year fixed menu. Can't wait to go back and try the regular menu.
Great food! Awesome service, friendly and knowledgeable but gives you your space. Will be going back!
DaiLo is is an incredible experience. There’s so much more to it than just having the food, with the incredible and knowledgeable service, coupled with the story behind each of the dishes.
I give this restaurant a very high rating because it really is in a class by itself. Although nominally a Chinese restaurant, the food is not at all Classical Chinese, rather it is inventive, tinged by various Asian flavors, and quite different. I would go back in an instant (I'm not from Toronto) because everything on the menu looks interesting and different from what you'll find elsewhere. The portions are large, the service both attentive and personal. This is an interesting restaurant and a significant change from more traditional places. Definitely worth a visit.
Excellent front door staff. They offered several other tables as the table was in the back. Very helpful and kind to make changes.
Service staff was great!
Food was fresh and very delicious.
Prices very good!
Very elaborate and sophisticated dishes, a bit unexpected, but truly impressive. Good service, nice atmosphere. However, a bit too dark - it would be nice to have a bit more light, at least to read the menu. Very nice and clean washrooms, which is a treat in this part of town :) Overall - great place to be recommended and visited again!
Food was amazing. We especially enjoyed the octopus toco and the Tofu. For dessert, I recommend the date cake. It was so good.
Ambiance is great and the service was incredible. Only thing that would dissuade me from coming again is the price point of the food compared to the portion is poor.
Knowledgeable staff and great service. Food was outstanding
Went for birthday+anniversary dinner. Staff was kind and seemed genuine when bringing out dessert with a card and candle. Food was delicious at a very good value for downtown (tasting menu). Will definitely be going back
Wonderful food, great service, amazing experience!
Enjoyed Dailo vey much. The food was exceptional. We had the non-meat tasing menu and it was superb and reasonable considering the ingenuity behind each creation and the amount of food.
In particular the service was extraordinary. Our wait-staff, Marla, happened to overhear my stating it was my husband's birthday and relayed this to the kitchen that presented him with a lovely dessert and a candle. We could not figure out how anyone knew until I asked the humble Marla this happened. That is dedicated service!
My only complaint, and also the reason friends will not eat at DaiLo is the noise. It was really hard to be able to hear one another and that does cause a strain in an otherwise mellow evening.
DaiLo is incredible. The food, service, and ambiance was top notch. One of my very favorite restaurants.
Food and service both amazing and they were able to modify many of the items to make them vegetarian. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Consistently awesome food and excellent service makes Dailo our most favourite restaurant.
Amazing as always!
Food was phenomenal! The first bite from the combination of shrimp and foie gras was exceptionally good. However, the service was extremely slow. We started dinner at around quarter to 8 pm and ended around quarter to 11 pm. I don’t know what happened to our table(we had bar seating) but we noticed that for others it wasn’t as slow since they had 2 seat turnovers during the course of our meal. I hope next time they can improve on servicing tables with equal and fair attention because their food will make you want to come for more.
This is was our second time here. Service and servers are amazing!!! very attentive and fun. The food is unbelievably good. We have gone for the tasting menu both times but I would recommend anything from the menu. Both times I tried one of their cocktails and did not disappoint. Creative, delicious, fun atmosphere. Really good for almost any occasion, birthday, anniversary or just an amazing night out. Definitely try it, you won't be disappointed.
We heard about Dailo because a colleague provided us with a giftcard - he searched it online and saw that it had great ratings. We were celebrating our 9th anniversary.
Our table was too close to another couple's table. It was very distracting for me to speak to my partner across the table from me. They were talking moderately but sometimes used swear words. I was not expecting to eat dinner and listen to other people use swear words to express or exaggerate. Suggestion is to move the two duo tables further apart from one another.
The food was very interesting, on the pricier side but that is a given! We ordered two Chef's Pick. The taste was a bit more on the sweeter side than we would have liked it to be. I enjoyed foods I had never tried such as fried watermelon or squid taco. Overall, I'd say the ingredients were authentic Chinese (e.g. jellyfish, pork shreds, sesame) and the style is more French or Western.
The staff was great. Each item came out explained. It was a great experience and would recommend to those who are looking to impress with a Chef's Pick experience.
Absolutely delicious! The flavors were all so tantalizing, you left them to linger on the tongue. We did the chef choice and glad we did. I would go back and highly recommend!
Excellent food and service bring us back repeatedly.
Man! The food was so amazing!
The deep fried watermelon...omg!
Can’t wait to go back!
Everything was tasty and well- balanced flavours, attentive service and well- informed servers who point you in the right direction when you're not sure what choices to make from the menu.
We had reservations for 2 people at 9:00, and probably finished up at about 11:00. Our selection for dinner was the tasting menu because that is what friends had recommended, and we were happy to be surprised and avoid any decision making. We let the server know that one of is a pescatarian who also eats chicken, and they accommodated us accordingly. The food was fantastic and the service attentive. Some very creative dishes that were well coordinated and timed. A great meal!
Highly recommend the Chef’s Choice menu as each meal was incredible and something different each time. The service and presentation were great as well. We went for an date night and will definitely be returning in the future.
