Fusion / Eclectic
Downtown
About the restaurant
We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). He has created innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful service provided by the host at the front door, as well as our server Lily. She was extremely generous and patient to explain menu options or details about anything. Great ambiance. Great food, I had PC’s seafood curry and the sauce delightfully creamy with a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Calvin’s the head chef and to my knowledge he was the one who delivered our food, which was awesome. Was only visiting Atlanta for the weekend for a Hyrox race, and this was the perfect place to celebrate. They even gave us a strawberry and baileys ice cream made in house that was so, so good.

I’ve been coming to Nakato for over a decade and today was just as phenomenal as previous visits! The service was outstanding and the food was exceptional. We ordered a wide variety of dishes and each one was prepared with incredible attention to detail and flavor. The sushi was fresh and artfully presented, especially the chef’s special tuna cheek, which was a standout. The tempura was light and crispy, and the miso-glazed black cod practically melted in our mouths. Even the simple dishes, like the miso soup and house salad, were elevated by the quality of ingredients and thoughtful preparation. Nakato continues to be a perfect blend of tradition and innovation — a true gem that never disappoints. Thank you everyone for a beautiful evening and memorable experience. :)

This is a great tapas option in the Toco Hills/North Decatur/Tucker area. Love the sangria flights and the wide variety of meat-centric tapas options. Suggest more vegetable offerings such as garlicky haricot verts, spinach, sauteed mushrooms, etc., some of which may veer toward pintxos in presentation to round out the menu and appeal more to vegetarian tastes.

West Midtown
About the restaurant
Mujō is a one MICHELIN star, intimate, omakase-only tasting menu experience serving modern edomae sushi led by Executive Chef J. Trent Harris. Our menu changes daily and reflects the best seasonal ingredients available, as well as fish flown in directly from Japan. The experience consists of a series of small plates and a progression of seasonal nigiri. We are inspired by the Japanese concept of ichi-go ichi-e, 一期一会, or “one time, one meeting. Our goal is not to recreate the sushiya of Japan, but to offer an experience that represents who and where we are, while respecting and honoring the traditions of edomae sushi. Inspired by the concept of omotenashi, but rooted in southern hospitality.
