Drake Devonshire Inn
It was another amazing trip to the Drake!
Beautiful setting and great service by Kerry. Love being able to sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
Great view great dessert
The highest marks possible for our lunch at the DrAke Devonshire on 16 July. We usually go there on our anniversary and this was the best to date. A nice touch was complementary glasses of fizz. It was followed by excellent sourdough bread, charcuterie plate, fish fry, steak tartare, lobster risotto, rhubarb sorbet and coffee. Service was excellent.
Overall my brother and I had a very good experience. An important note however: parking is a challenge. It should be explicit that there is actually no parking at the restaurant at all! The limited parking is only for those small amount of guests who are staying in the hotel portion. Simply park out on the street, and make sure you avoid parking in the businesses along wharf Street, they have cameras and will ticket you and will tell you without question.
Your best bet is heading here during a weekday during the summer. The weekends are frankly, in sane. We arrived and were quickly brought to our seat with a beautiful view of the lake. Though it was not particularly busy at 1:30 in the afternoon on a Monday, it did take a little while for our servers to notice that we were present.
Nevertheless, the service was very pleasant and our drinks and food were fabulous. We enjoyed a craft beer each and my brother who had the hot chicken truly enjoyed it, though not particularly spicy. I enjoyed the shrimp and sausage and grits which were absolutely fantastic creamy tasty and rich.
This place is truly a gem with a very mixed crowd during the week consisting of retirees visiting the county, older hipsters with their beards and ironic hats, as well as younger folks taking their time to experience the county. Mixed into that are your typical tourist from the United States, England, Asia, India… And all we’re having a fabulous time.
Again, it is truly a upper scale slice of Canadiana as long as you get there during the week.
If you can only go on the weekend, all I can advise is use OpenTable to book in advance, arrive early, be prepared to wait, be prepared for crowds, and pack a lot of patience.
Strange menu choices, overpriced.
Wine list by the glass is short and the 5 oz. $13 glass of Sauvignon blanc I ordered was poor.
The location is great, good choice for indoor and outdoor seating.
Ping pong table is the best thing you offer.
Overall a great experience! The front of staff (hostesses) were so welcoming and accommodating! I rarely see this at restaurants, so this was such a pleasant surprise. It really made a great start to our dinner experience. Our server was okay - he wasn't very personable - you could tell he was just there to do his job which was satisfactory, but it could have solidified a 5 star experience. The food truck food was awesome (small plates available from 3-6). All the food from the main menu was great except for the pasta (dry, paparedelle were stuck together, cherry tomatoes could have been cooked down for bit longer to release more flavour and juic). The 1/2 chicken dish was definitely the star of the show. It was so moist, juicy and fresh! One of the best I've ever had! You could tell it was local!
Enjoyed the dinner and the dinner for the most part. Had the pickerel which was a bit on the saltier side and the the carrots that came with it were over roasted the the point of being black. Husband's dish of shrimp and grits was incredible however! Dessert and drinks were delicious.
Friendly environment with a great view and vibe. Food was satisfying. Staff was most helpful.
This restaurant has the most amazing view! The food was great & the salads looked beautiful but it’s really the view of the lake right beside us that had all of us talking!
Food was mediocre. Generally very over rated. Cocktails at were good and nice view. But skip the food.
Very disappointed in the quality of service here. I have never experienced anything less than pleasant at the other Drake properties (Drake hotel and Drake 150) so I was expecting a similar, professional experience here.
Perhaps it's the Devonshire's management's "direction" to fleece tourists, but to start there was not-so-subtle up-selling that was really off-putting. One example: Suggesting that the main would not be substantial enough (even after ordering appetizers!). I'm a big eater and it certainly was enough.
And that was after waiting, and waiting, and waiting for those mains to arrive. After over 30 minutes we were told that ours was "up next". She obviously was just saying what she thought we wanted to hear (and I guess what she hoped was true) because they sure weren't "up next". We never got them until another 15 minutes later (45 total). Really poor communication with the kitchen.
The last disappointment: our server had, apparently, consulted with the manager who said that because we waited so long that dessert was on the house. Not anything we already ordered (appetizers, main, drinks), which is what a well-managed restaurant should do. S
The food however was very good, but there are plenty of decent food options starting to appear in Prince Edward County so I'd suggest you to pick a different place (I hear good things from my friends about Flame + Smith and Sand and Pearl and others).
If you're in Toronto I do recommend the other Drake properties, but steer clear of this tourist trap.
We waited more than 1/2 hour for our food. The table of 4 who arrived after us received their food first. Then they delivered wrong food to our table twice. The fish and chips and the warm chicken sandwich had no flavour and the fries were over done and clearly sitting around.
Setting is spectacular, love enjoying our pretty landscape in the county
Food was good, not great, for the price - duck pate was just pate in a bowl with a piece of bread. Lots of gluten free options. Service was excellent, never felt rushed and staff were very knowledgeable about the menu.
Small portions for the price
Food was excellent, wouldn't expect anything less from a Drake restaurant. Was nice to have a dj spinning some chill summertime music as we drank wine from PEC, ate good food, and looked out at a never ending lake Ontario horizon. Well worth the day trip from Toronto, look forward to staying at the hotel one weekend. Building and grounds are beautiful and consistent with the Drake brand.
Brunch was amazing as always! Our food took a little more time than expected but was worth the wait. Where we sat was just perfect in the corner of patio. Will be back!
30th wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect! The staff was super friendly and attentive. The food came quickly and was delicious. The restaurant itself is unique and has a great view. I would recommend “The Drake” to everyone I know visiting the County.
Service was excellent & the food couldn’t have been better. Beautiful spot!
L'agencement des saveurs des aliments laissait à désirer.
We arrived late due to ferry service down to one ferry, and construction on highway 33. However, we were still welcomed warmly and given great service by Alison. Sat on the patio. Can't beat the view of the lake on a hot summer day. Food was good. A bit overpriced, but the setting and half priced bottle of wine made up for it. A great lunch.
Staff were friendly and great. The food was ok but not great. They need a proper chef.
Food is good but could be more inventive
Nice beer selection of local brews
Service could be better
Great food and ambiance. Service was good until we got to dessert. Dessert took an hour from ordering to service. Just way too slow. But all in all, this was a great place.
3 of us went for lunch on July 2nd. The patio was (maybe) half full and there were a few tables inside that had people seated.
- we waited over an hour for our food - and that's just for the starter (that we shared). Apparently the kitchen was understaffed. The fish fry has potential but needs some pepper, or salt or some spice - pretty bland but has potential.
-I ordered the Falafel plate - the the falafels were raw. After my first bite, i asked the server if they were cooked and he quickly said yes. I tried another bite and then just ate the salad. When the server came back, i asked him again if they were cooked. He then took the plate to the kitchen, came back and said "yes, they are undercooked" :S
- i had the apple pie as the free dessert - it was cold :S
- after 2.5 hours..i just wanted to go home....
I don't think i'll be going back
Nice view fo the lake. The food was good because of freshness of the ingredients but nothing to write home about. The seating along the wall was uncomfortable. I had ask not to include pepper in my meal and there was some anyway. It is good for a family dinner with kids, not so much for romantic evening.
The view from the restaurant is amazing!! Staff service was very good!!
Request a table near the window. Or get there early to get a table on the patio. The view is spectacular. I deducted marks because it took an hour for our food to come. And it was really good but not worth waiting so long for. We saw other tables come after us and get their food faster. We didn't make any special requests. Not sure what took so long. The lighting is too dark. People used their phones to see the menu. And the mosquitos ate us before we ate anything.
The Drake is one of the best restaurants in the County. In the 20+ years of visiting the County in the summer months, we have dined well, but there are those places that are more consistent in maintaining the quality of the food and service. The Drake is one of those places.
The place looks good, however it didn't live up to the hype. The service was slow and took 1h30min before we got our main course (to add context, we did have an appetizer, but there was a long wait between that and the main). I ordered a rare steak and got one that was medium well. My date's burger with a gluten free bun looked sad and thrown together (they forgot to specify a gf bun, which meant they sent her 1st burger back and rushed her 2nd burger). This is not somewhere I will go back to anytime soon.
We went for breakfast right at the opening. Staff didn’t seem to be ready and even though the restaurant wasn’t full it took a long time before getting our meal. Very disappointed as I heard so many great this about this restaurant.
This is my third time. Service was not at the level expected for this type of restaurant.
Im a kind of big fan of Devonshire one, and it was awesome as it always has been.🙃
This was our second time at the Drake Devonshire and it is obvious that it is a place with a great view of the lake and nothing else.
The food quality is really sub par . We will not return.
I will start with the positive
-PEC soup good
_hummus with sour dough bread was very disappointing the sour sour was severed fried like a grilled cheese not fresh
The hummas was very dry
My husband had the hamburger and he said it had very little flavour and he’s a huge burger lover.
We were prepared to pay a little extra but the meal was certainly not worth the price.
Maybe it was an off day !!
I just love it here! And the addition of the Motor Inn has made The County a must visit in the summer! :)
Service was great. Beautiful restaurant and view. Food, however, took 2 hours to arrive and was either under or over cooked and heavily salted. Not worth the money. Brunch was a much better experience.
Food and service was excellent - wine was expensive! Beautiful location
Had a delicious hearty burger with a light, fluffy egg bun which made the whole thing so incredibly tasty. The pappardelle pasta is delicious as well! The ambiance is romantic and the Drake Devonshire is a beautiful venue overall.
