It was winter restaurant week, so my nephew and I met for dinner and ordered from the restaurant week menu. I ordered the chicken wings and they initially came out bleeding. The wait staff replaced them, but then they were a little burnt. As an entree i ordered the shrimp and grits, and it was ‘alright’. Just alright. The desert was the best course! I ordered the bread pudding and it was really good. I would recommend the bread pudding. Even with restaurant week, it was pricey. The meal was $40.00 each, with each drink averaged $18.00. Two people, with restaurant week menu and only one person drinking alcohol was $150.00. That’s pricey to me for an average, just alright, meal.
Ordered the veggie scramble and added brisket. It was good, but not spectacular. I think I was expecting the same menu and deliciousness from a few years ago. My friend ordered the kale salad which looked really good. You can add chicken or shrimp if you need a protein. They also have 2hr bottomless mimosas for $24. The crowd is lively for brunch but had no problem getting a reservation for Saturday afternoon. Overall it was a good experience, outside of the hostess being seemingly enthralled with the guys in front of me and proceeded to carry on a longer than necessary conversation which created a line of ppl waiting to check in to get a table LOL

This was the first time that I returned to Due South for several years. I had a bad experience at the Due South Dockside on July 3rd 2019. The bartender/server was very rude to all of the customers. There were many people there to watch the Nats post game fireworks and they closed and kicked everyone out of their space before the fireworks started. No advance warning.
Anyway, we decided to revisit the restaurant since we really enjoyed the food prior to that experience - it was great. My partner had the Boss Hog and I had an assortment of sides. We both had the bottomless mimosas (good but a tad too much OJ). The service was excellent! The food was too. We weren't rushed and our glasses were never empty. Our server, Maggie, was great!

I was able to book my reservation for two people on New Year's Day about an hour before and was pleased that I was seated within 5 mins upon arrival. I ordered the Hot Fried Chicken & Biscuit and it was very good. The drinks seemed a bit watered down but tasted pretty good overall. The atmosphere was very comfortable.
This was my 2nd visit to Due South. It was crowded, loud,I was very uncomfortable in this environment. I think they need to go back to social distance guidelines even if DC doesn’t require it
The service was great. However the food wasn't good at all. The chicken wings were TOO salty, the corn muffins were cold, the crab fritters were fried too hard and was burnt and the sweet tea had TOO much sugar in it. We didn't even order a entree because we were so disappointed with the appetizers. Even the fries with my daughters kids meal was cold. Too much meat for a kid cheeseburger as well. My daughter decided to cut it in half and only took 3 bites of it. I was really excited to visit this location because of the ambiance but the food didn't match it.
Due South is okay. Some items are great like the wings. The burger was okay and lacked seasoning. Would return if in the area but not making a special trip. This is my 2nd time and both times were similar.
Due South never disappoints! After the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert, we were looking for a quiet place for dinner. On a whim, we took an exit to the Yards and found ourselves at Due South :) I’ve made a reservation literally 10 min before the allotted time. A Chef’s Board (smoked ham, fried sausage, pimento cheese spread, pickled okra (no slime!), classic buttermilk biscuits, and cool condiments) and corn muffins to start, along with cocktails (gin and spicy pear for me, Shoofly Punch for the guys). Smoked meats platter with jalapeño grits, collards, and slaw for men, shrimp and grits for me. All tasty, portions are generous. Another pleasant experience at Due South!
Due South was a much needed dinner away for our group of moms. We were able to chat and enjoy good food without changing diapers, spoon feeding a kid, and dealing with crying. The food was delicious and excellent and our server did go out of his way to accommodate us when the timing of the food got a bit turned around. We ordered to-go dinners for our spouses as a "Thank You" for keeping the little ones so we could get. It was lovely.
Have dined at Due South multiple times and is always a great experience. However this time we sat at our table for 25 minutes and no one came to take our order. So we got up and left.

Great brunch - started with a biscuit with strawberry preserves. Had the Boss Hog and bacon pimento cheeseburger for main meals- everything was delish! Wear pants with an elastic waist!
Love this place..Brought 7 ladies with me yesterday for brunch because I bragged about the food especially the smoked wings and all was saying how good everything was. Afterwards 6 ladies ordered smoked wings to go.
Very limited staff, it took over fifteen minutes before a waiter came to the table and another 10-15 to receive our drink order. Service began to speed up after placing our food order but you call tell they’re extremely under-staffed.
Loved the southern style home cooking at Due South. Checked all the boxes!
The food was great but hated how close the small tables were.
The food did not have a real southern flavor.
Blackened Catfish: No flavor. It was bland for the most part. Did not have the spicy New Orleans flavor.
Brussels Sprouts: Very bland, no salt or other spices to give it any flavor.
Brisket Chili: It was like a bowl of flavorless tomato soup. No spices were added to give it any depth, no heat. Very disappointing.
Mac & Cheese: Very disappointing, no flavor. Just some cheese put in the middle of some pasta. There needs to be a melting cheese roux poured over the pasta, then a combination of at least three other cheeses mixed together with the pasta, and then baked for 45 minutes to an hour.
There really needs to be more spices and flavor to the dishes. A quick tasting trip to New Orleans would do wonders. I am sure the chef is top-notch, but I was surprised at the lack of flavor.
Food was ok. Not great. Large portions. Service was prompt. The person at the table next to us claimed to have seen a mouse under the table next to hers, refused to pay her bill and walked out.
Went to Due South for brunch with 2 friends. The ambiance & atmosphere was very nice. We ordered the eggs benedict, big boss, and the burger. All of our dishes were good with the exception of the home fries which were underdone (hence the 4 star rating vs 5).
We had outdoor seating, the food, service and ambience was perfect. Would only say, it would be so very good to have more choices on the menu but our vegetable scramble with brisket was amazing!!!
Our waiter, Mike, was fantastic! The absolute best. He was so attentive and kind. 5 stars.

Excellent service! Good food. Had brisket (tender), collard greens (light bacon flavor; could have stood heavier "collard" taste), potatoe salad (good), pickles (spicy), and cornbread (dry). Server was very conversational which we enjoyed. Sat outdoors so noise level was not quiet, yet fine for long visit with my friend. My only real complaint was outside signage. I walked by the restaurant (and circled the block) 2.5 times before calling my friend (reservation was almost expired) and she literally talked me from around the corner, down 3 streets, to the restaurant. Need better signage at Water Street. Summary: I will eat there again.
Food was good... I didn't expect ham in my shrimp and grits, but understand southern fare often has a pork influence. Other than that it was pretty good.

Overall this place is nice. The food was ok..not as good as it was pre-pandemic. We have eaten here many times before and this time I notice the food wasn't as good as it had been. I love the location and will certainly be back. I'm confident things will gradually go back to being normal again with all of the restaurants.
