East is East - Broadway
Just like the Dhabbas of the the Silk Route, East is East is home to everyone. Artists, musicians, minstrels and youth eat next to business men, politicians and professionals. Come and experience the mystery and vibrancy of the east, right here in Vancouver.
Live music is a great addition since they moved. Lovely decoration. Service impeccable
The food here is unique and simply incredible. The staff could be more attentive and friendly, but overall - our experience is consistently positive. The beautiful decor and soothing ambiance adds to the meal. :) Highly recommended.
Very good food and service. They were very fast a nice
Make reservations in advance. I like that patrons are not rushed. The wrap meals including the
Dahl soup & small salad are terrific. Great assortment of lamb, chicken and vegetarian.
Only possible downside is the seating -not bad if sitting against the wall on cushions but the hard backless benches are uncomfortable. Great music group was playing while we ate at 7:30 a quartet with violin, double bass, guitar and drums .
This was our first time at the new Broadway location, even though we've been to the old location and the Main St. location several times. The food is tasty, well done, fresh, and just right amount of spices, plus you have vegan choices, and gluten free options.
I really have to place a big complaint to the most uncomfortable seating ever! The biggest problem is for the too short of a sit-length of the sitting platform. Anyone exceeding the petite asian female size, namely 5ft3, is unable to get anywhere near comfortable on the actual seat of the couches that have been made along the entire wall of the restaurant. The backing is too straight so pillows are great but the seat is too damn short! Even sitting sideways was not working for any of us as we are all over 5ft3. It did make a great bonding experience between several of the tables around us as about four tables with people all over 5'3" were all having the same experience. So at least we felt better being able to complain to each other.
Needless to say, we will not be returning to your new Broadway location.
I go to this specific broadway east is east location frequently as opposed to Main st because it's a place one can have conversation without loud music drowning you out yet have amazing gentle ambient live music in the background. The only criticism I have is when I go by myself reservations are not allowed. So then each time I need to go through management to reserve. I do this due to limited mobility issues. Each time I am accommodated but due I find having to complain to management each time reflective of not being a space open to inclusion if an individual cannot reserve and dine on their own. I have also complained that as an individual I should be entitled to dine for at least 2hrs and not be rushed out in an 1.5 hrs. Just because I am by myself doesn't mean I don't want to have a wonderful dining experience. My complaints have been listened to but each time I have to go through a manager. They need to think about this. I still keep coming back because the staff do accommodate. I am a regular.
It was really good experience, good food , good ambience, , courteous staff .
Loved the evening
It's super delicious and we can definitely recommend East is East to everybody. But one thing we didn't know and isn't mentioned anywhere is the fix 18% tips amount for groups with only 6 persons. In other restaurants it starts with 7 or 8 persons. That was a little sour aftertaste :(
We love the food at East is East, but unfortunately it took over an hour after we placed our order to receive any food. The seating/chairs are extremely uncomfortable. The food might have been worth the wait, if we had been sitting comfortably.
The food was absolutely amazing! Our group had the Chai Feast and it was such a fantastic way to try new dishes that I would ordinarily not try. The creamy mushroom and eggplant dish was my favourite (and I don't like eggplant!) and the chocolate pudding dessert was the die for. I cannot wait to go back!
We very much enjoyed the "Chef's Feast" which gave a wide selection of delicious dishes. As I like my food piping hot, I would have preferred that to the merely warm temperature of the food which then cooled quickly after arrival, but having said that, the dishes were delicious either way. Ambience and music were excellent. The natural wood furniture had a rather unique presentation. Due to the thickness of the tabletops however, I would recommend the legs of the tables being an inch or two longer, so tall individuals can sit and perhaps cross their legs comfortably beneath the table. I will return to this restaurant and bring my friends as the food was excellent and catered to both carnivore and vegetarian.
One of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver. Great ambience, excellent food, and although it's a bit pricy it's very much worth it.
Also their chai is perfect.
Overall food service & ambiance excellent
Great experience and chai feast was incredible! I would prefer not to have to pay extra for the music, feel that should really come with the vibe of the restaurant but saying that, service was friendly and attentive, and they give a free birthday dessert! Fun night out.
The food was excellent. The Persian salad was particularly outstanding. Lovely ambience. I'll be going back.
Beautiful space, lovely people, loud and rambunctious in a good way. It feels like you are genuinely drinking chai and eating good food in the most authentic way you can in Vancouver. Amazing Chai Feast
There was a live music with extra cost. It was nice but music was not match with food and ambience.
Absolutely unbelievable in every way! The flavours are everything!
Very nice time. Only regret is that we didn't realize Monday nights were the only night without live music.
Went for a birthday. Reservation for 9 but only 7 made it, wasnt an issue for the restaurant at all. It was lucky really, 9 wouldnt have fit. Food, service atmosphere excelllent.
The new room is gorgeous, great decor, warm atmosphere and delicious food, plus extra bonus of excellent musicians playing interesting music. The Chai Feast option is a great choice that allows diners to sample several dishes and to have more of their chosen dishes or sample another during the meal. Service was very good as well. We were a group of five and and all agreed East is East deserves a 5-star review.
Excellent food, ambiance, music. Pricey but worth it.
We had a wonderful dinner with friends during Dine Out Vancouver. Our waitress was efficient but not too attentive. The decor and live music were excellent - we had a wonderful time and were there for 4 hours. At no time did they make us feel like we needed to leave, which we really appreciated. Highly recommended!
Delicious food! Great service! Quiet peaceful music! Fun time! Great value!! Thank you 😊
Pricey but delicious. Wonderful comfort food and such a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy it in. I would highly recommend it for vegetarians. My biggest complaint was the music that was playing the night we were there - it was too loud and wrong for the atmosphere. It needed to be quieter so we could talk and it needed to be more mood music - not entertainment.
I have been a regular customer of the previous Broadway East is East and wanted to try the new location. The food was excellent as always, and the new larger space is very welcoming. However, we did not know it was Dine-Out Vancouver that evening. We arrived on time for our reservation but were asked (politely)to leave just as we were planning to order dessert. It was not made clear to us before we sat down that we would have limited time for our dinner.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner with our 2 kids.. delicious, healthy food, lovely ambiance, pleasant live music. Can't wait to go back.
Food excellent as ever.
We had a great dinner. We ordered the chicken masala, basmati rice, hummus and the mushroom soup. They were all delicious. The chai tea with almond milk was a nice starter.
Delicious food and great service. It's a beautiful spacious restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
The staff are delightful and the dishes are wonderful. The chefs knows their spices. Every time we go for dinner I feel like our dining experience is an adventure for our palette.
Love the new space. Eclectic and fun. Servings are generous. Spicing exquisite. The only downside was a $10 Caking fee for bringing your own birthday cake for them to serve it.
I made a reservation at East is East on Broadway to host a celebration dinner with a large group of people with various dietary restrictions. The menu is very approachable for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten free people, and the staff were wonderful with accommodating extra people last minute into the reservation. We had great live music that served as a graceful background to the otherwise fantastic ambiance of the new location. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great place to go out with friends!
Very different dining experience- food is wonderful, setting unique, live music!
Food was great. Service was great -had three children under 9 and they enjoyed it. Had lunch and dinner there
The overall experience was fine. The only issue I had was there was no place to hang a coat. When we ask the server she said there only room to accommodate staff coats. When I asked what we were to do if we did not want to sit on our coats she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Not a great start to an evening.
I was blown away by the vibrancy and complexity of the taste of the food. The staff were also very friendly and accomodating.
Great place. Fantastic food at a reasonable price. The only negative is the uncomfortable chairs.
Excellent food and great ambiance. The decor was beautiful, service fantastic and live music added to a very enjoyable and uniquely memorable evening!!!
Great food in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Live music is at the perfect level, not too loud, great musicians. The hosts were up front with us about the small fee that they charge as a donation to the musicians, which is a system I prefer to having to drop money in a hat. The feast menu was delicious, you can order more of anything, which is awesome, but would be better if the dishes were smaller so you actually could order more plates! I was stuffed after the initial two dishes. The chai tea sample we were given was unreal, pretty much the best chai I've ever tasted. I will definitely return, great experience.
