East is East - Main St
As evening descends upon the vibrant city of Vancouver, Chai Lounge comes to life like the courts of the eastern Raja's. Imagine a warm, dreamy and visually arresting venue where global sounds cascade the room over the din of lively conversations. Spicy scents waft from the kitchen followed by an abundance of delicious trans-himalayan cuisine.
Chai Lounge is our landmark location. There is no place like it in Vancouver, and visitors from near and far marvel at the ornate carpets, ceiling mandala's, and the nature-inspired furnishings.
The large central stage features a rotating line-up of world class musicians and dancers. We ask for a small patronage fee of $3 per person which goes to support all the live local music at East is East. Because we are very busy we hold tables for 2 hours. We look forward to serving you.
Lunch: Daily: 11:30am - 4:30pm
Dinner: Sunday - Thursday: 4:30pm - 10:30pm
Dinner: Friday & Saturday: 4:30 pm - 11:30 pm
Whether you are a music lover, or just a casual listener interested in expanding your musical vocabulary, Chai Lounge is a gateway to an exciting world of sound.
Awesome food, live music and great service! Loved it I will be back
Decided to go here for my best friends birthday after only having been there once before. Just as amazing as I remember to be, really good price for the chai feast and the Kashmiri sunset lassi is soooo good I ordered two of them! The staff was also amazing and surprised us by bringing free dessert and getting the whole restaurant to sing happy birthday to my friend with them. We also got amazing seats right infront of the stage where live music was playing. Safe to say, she had a really good 20th birthday ❤️
Been several times...great for birthdays and always great spicy tastey food. Nice servers, but very slow to get food this last time there, 2 hour time limit due to next reservations.
Love the Chai feast all you can taste ... so worth it.
The food is just fantastic. Come hungry and rose the Chai Feast. The Peas & Cheese and the Lamb are stand outs.
Food is always good, and the flamenco show on Friday nights is great!
Liked it very much except it was very noisy above and beyond the music which was at a reasonable level. Hard to hear each other. Needs sound bafflers. Cocktails a joke.
I originally discovered the restaurant when I searched the surrounding area of a property I needed to review with a Client. Both of us were gluten free and I was excited to try a new GF friendly restaurant. When we got there, the food was so unusual we had no idea what to order and each just randomly picked something. It was so delicious we had to taste each other's food. This was about 2 years ago. Since then, if I have special guests from out of town, a Trip to East is East on Main is our first choice. This week, we brought 4 aunt and uncles from out of town and we were treated to the magnificent tasting Feast. We all loved every thing we tried. It is the most amazing food ever!
To top it off, we get our take - away magnificent Chai tea for desert. What a treat.
By far our favourite restaurant! Entertainment is great to watch. Very energetic!
A wonderfully eclectic journey of the East. Sample cuisine in traditional styles remaining authentic to the experience. Highly recommend.
We regularly go to East is East for special occasions . The food and ambiance are always great! Love the chai feast option, but always eat too much! Didn't get a chance to have dessert this time as we were too full. But the desserts are so delicious! I love the chocolate cherry pudding, my daughter loves the Kir (rosewater rice pudding).
I really enjoyed my first dining experience here. The staff are low key which I appreciated more as the evening progressed. The food is the high point here. The layers of flavours are outstanding!
Overall great food.
Vegetarian dishes were exceptional, the lamb dish was flavourful, but the meat was too tough & dry to swallow
We thought the food was very good and loved the chance to try many things on the tasting menu. It was very very loud on a crowded night, though; couldn't hear the musicians well.
Wonderful place! Our server was so great and we could tell the other servers were so great as well! Thanks so much for your service! Their chai tea is THE BEST!
Great place, great music, the chai tea was really great as well
I enjoyed going to East is East frequently in the past, especially in the cozy old Kitsilano digs. Now that the locations have been upgraded, the prices have risen substantially and instead of my go to restaurant I will only go there on a very special occasion if at all. Not in my price range. It looks like they are catering to a more upscale clientele. Too bad, it doesn't really fit with the message of the restaurant.
Lively place with great food and ambiance! Nice selection of tapas in the tasting menu. The musicians made the whole experience more fun.
East is East is my family's go to place...Reliably tasty, nutritious food, and friendly, punctual service. It's comfort food with something for everyone in my "special needs food preferences" family...
Service was occasionally slow but always friendly.
Great vibe, great food! I went with a couple of friends and loved the experience.
It was very loud and the music was not to our group's liking. The food was good but some items were disappointing, like the seasonal fish that was a part of the feast. In the end, it was quite pricy by the time they charged $3 for the music and 18% tip. I paid $45 for just me. I will think twice before going back.
I wasn't expecting the level of entertainment that was there - it was a great experience and a pleasant surprise!
A very lovely, calm environment for a family gathering. The music carried you off to another time and place. We were welcomed and looked after right from entering - samples of tasty chai tea and food. Once seated in the cozy section surrounded by the Himalayan salt wall, special attention was given to explaining the different options on the menu. Our group included vegetarians and all of us enjoy flavourful healthy food which we were delighted by so many exotic choices. Our evening was so relaxing and enjoyable, we will be back soon.
Great food but really don’t appreciate the $3 a head fee for the band. I wasn’t fond of the music, and even if I was I feel it’s the venues responsibility to front the cost of entertainment, not the guests. It seems tacky
This was the second time I dined at East is East Main St and it was great once again. This time I brought two friends and they had nothing but very positive comments about the staff, the entertainment and especially the food! The only draw back is finding parking but....
We always have a fabulous meal, we arrived early, and were not in the restaurant long enough to warrant a $3 charge per person for the musicians. Also, I think the charge for music should be separately itemized from the food and taxes as it raises the amount of tax on the overall bill. As well, tipping should be calculated on the total bill as tipping is for food service only, not music. The way the bill is laid out is misleading and I'm sure you have many customers who do not realize they should be tipping only on the NET cost of the food, not including the music fee and the taxes.
Food and service were awesome!
Atmosphere and food definitely pulled the whole experience together. Interesting chairs. Interesting carpets on the wall. Food was flavourful. Thought the roti roll was bigger but one person can finish two... Quite full after.
Joyful entertaining hospitable and delicious exotic food. Leah Neaman
Very tasty food, and excellent friendly staff. We enjoyed the live music performance.
Always a nice time at East is East. Food was great, music was nice, even though we couldn't actually see the musicians. Our first order was all messed up, but quickly corrected. It was my companion's birthday and although we enjoyed the dessert, we did not enjoy the staff singing to us. It would be preferable to ask people if they want the singing, because many people do not want it.
I've been here a bunch of times, and am never disappointed! Great food, good vibes. The Chai Feast is the best!
Different but delicious cuisine.
Atmosphere is good, waitress is very helpful. There’s a stage at the back, shows at night probably.
It was our first time and the food, service and music was really nice. We had the endless sample option called The Feast.
Our first time here as a party of 5 celebrating our son & his girlfriend's birthdays.
Easy booking with Open Table, great service from the time we arrived, amazing food, great value.
We will definitely recommend this place & will absolutley be back.
My husband & I as seniors, appreciated how easy it was to have a conversation with our group, despite the closeness of the tables & the music.
The chai feast was great! A good selection of vegetarian, poultry, and fish options. I look forward to coming back.
Service was not great . It was a family dinner to celebrate a B’day day party and the server told that she would be bringing a dessert for the Bday person but she made us wait so long that we all were frustrated and decided to leave .
Great food and service always. Come here fairly often.
Love this restaurant but making customers pay for the talent you bring in is tacky.
My 5yr old asked to see the Flamingo dancers for his birthday. He loves watching and mimicking their moves. The service was friendly and prompt.
Great entertainment and good!
