As evening descends upon the vibrant city of Vancouver, Chai Lounge comes to life like the courts of the eastern Raja's. Imagine a warm, dreamy and visually arresting venue where global sounds cascade the room over the din of lively conversations. Spicy scents waft from the kitchen followed by an abundance of delicious trans-himalayan cuisine.

Chai Lounge is our landmark location. There is no place like it in Vancouver, and visitors from near and far marvel at the ornate carpets, ceiling mandala's, and the nature-inspired furnishings.
The large central stage features a rotating line-up of world class musicians and dancers. We ask for a small patronage fee of $3 per person which goes to support all the live local music at East is East. Because we are very busy we hold tables for 2 hours. We look forward to serving you.

Think it is a bit expensive relative to what you get. Food is quite good, would not say outstanding

Went to see flamenco. Excellent show! These people support artists, mostly musicians I believe. They could charge more (only 3 per person). But this keeps it affordable so thank you!

Overall the food was nice and the chai feast was a pretty good deal. However, the service was extremely slow while they had a 2-hour time limit for our table. There were live music and charge us $3 for it as patronage fee.

Decor is fun and interesting. Food was very tasty except some a bit salty. With the Chef’s feast you can taste everything for a reasonable $35. Server was very friendly and helpful re the food choices.
Very loud and hard to converse despite being by the window and a 4 1/2 foot divider between us and main seating.

So many rules! I was told when I booked, then received far too many reminders and someone called and went over the rules again. I felt disheartened before I even arrived. Food was pretty good but the service wasn't the best. Never did receive a knife to cut my meat.

A delightful place to eat and sip. You are greeted with yummy appetizer samples and made to feel welcome. Chai, BC wines and wonderful spicy and/or creamy food. Bring your Vegan and gluten free friends too as it's not just for chicken and seafood lovers.

Welcoming on entry. A variety of food options for any taste. Nothing we had was very spicy but all was flavourful. Be prepared for cramped seating and tables - all part of the experience.

Such a great experience! When I phoned to update the reservation, there were no issues. We arrived and were seated right away. The food took no time to come out, and our servers were sweet and very friendly. It was a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday, and I enjoy coming back!

The food was very good. We had a party of 14 people though, and the food came at all different times. It was a shame not to eat together. It was a busy Saturday night and the restaurant was loud. We could not really hear the entertainment from our table. The roti wraps and prawn masala were yummy. We enjoyed a good night overall.

Everything was fine, except for having a reservation for 6:45 and then waiting until 7:20 or so to be seated. And seeing others who arrived after seated before us.

We love all the wonderful flavours that come with each bite! The live music always lifts our spirits. They only negative are the twig chairs - they are not very comfortable. Thankfully the staff moved us to a corner booth and we were able to fully relax and enjoy each other and our dinner, both in comfort. We will definitely be back!

The food at East is East is consistently good. By ordering the Chai feast you can have unlimited main dishes. Great if you have a big appetite or wish to try many of the various dishes. The atmosphere is lively, though with live music in the evening it is a bit loud for carrying on a conversation.

This place has presence - such a refreshing alternative to explore in Vancouver. Interesting decor, nice lighting and lively scene. My boyfriend has strong musical roots and really appreciated being seated near the live music. Our dishes were very flavourful, nice portions (we did the Chai Feast, so could sample several), and our server was relaxed but effective. Would definitely recommend as an exotic vacation-like dining option!

We had a lovely experience, however, receiving a phone message a week after I reserved advising you require an additional $3 per person for music was totally tacky. Especially as we were on our way before the music was even set up and we never even heard it.

The ambiance was amazing, it was truly a sensory experience. It felt as if I was somewhere outside Vancouver, great lighting, live music, detailed decor and the warmth of the place made it quite an experience. As I was waiting I could only imagine the food was going to be great, but the salmon was quite fishy and chewy, the paneer was too salty, so it took over other flavors (e.g. the spinach), and the cheese texture way softer than usual. It seemed as the food had been stored for a while, so it did not feel quite fresh... I did not order many other dishes, so perhaps I did not try the specialty of the restaurant? I have heard good reviews, so I'd like to go again and try other choices. The Indian sweets were good! I loved the live music and good service...

They were not very flexible with their menu. One attendee only wanted the chicken Kebab and not the potato or rice. To add extra chicken it would cost basically the same $30 for each extra kebab. Do for 4 Kebabs it would cost $120. Plus they didn't offer any alternatives. The meal cost over $200 and we were still hungry when we left. It just would have been nice if they were a bit more flexible and offered some items separately

Enjoyed the unique experience of dinner with entertainment with my friends on Friday evening. Their food is plentiful as you can refill when you order from the "feast menu".
The only thing I won't give a 5 stars ratings is their Chai Tea, which I am expecting to be made from scratch with fresh ingredients as an Indian restaurant. However, all of their Chai Tea are from the tap, as pre-made and already with sugar added which I found it too sweet.

The food was great but being rushed through our meal took away from the experience. We are told that we would need to be finished our meal within a 2 hour period so they could have the table for another reservation. Needless to say, we felt the anxious hovering presence of wait staff clearly trying to move us along! Making money trumped our comfort and enjoyment of our meal! Not a good way to operate a business. Really disappointing!!

This was a suggested venue for my birthday with family and friends on Saturday night. It exceeded our expectations! Our server was patient and knowledgeable, food was absolutely delicious, and the room is beautiful. We especially enjoyed the Flamenco band and dancers! Outstanding entertainment! I was concerned being so close to the stage, but conversation was still easy during the performance. We were expecting just a quick set, but very pleased that the show continued all evening.
All in all, a fabulous night! (Seating could be a bit more comfortable though)
Many thanks to you all.

The restaurant was very accommodating when we called to add 1 more person to the reservation. They were also accommodating when we called to say we would be late as it was impossible to get a cab that night. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the ambiance is excellent, the performers are talented and so much fun to watch. The food was really good! The menu was a bit confusing at first but then we figured it out. Definitely more expensive than most other Indian restaurants however the flavours were incredible- well worth it!

Unsure if it’s because our group was a larger size or if because auto gratuity was added so she didn’t want to put in the effort but the service was not good. Took a long time to get our initial drink orders taken, then even longer to flag her down to order our food. Then even longer to flag her down to order any more drinks. I say flag down because she never came by the table to check in on us or see if we needed anything.

Over all the experience was great but the service level could have substantially been better.
