As evening descends upon the vibrant city of Vancouver, Chai Lounge comes to life like the courts of the eastern Raja's. Imagine a warm, dreamy and visually arresting venue where global sounds cascade the room over the din of lively conversations. Spicy scents waft from the kitchen followed by an abundance of delicious trans-himalayan cuisine.

Chai Lounge is our landmark location. There is no place like it in Vancouver, and visitors from near and far marvel at the ornate carpets, ceiling mandala's, and the nature-inspired furnishings.
The large central stage features a rotating line-up of world class musicians and dancers. We ask for a small patronage fee of $3 per person which goes to support all the live local music at East is East. Because we are very busy we hold tables for 2 hours. We look forward to serving you.

hi, we really enjoyed our dinner. We were seated quite close to the entertainment so it was difficult to have conversations, but no issues. Only issue I had was that the chair I was on was not level and I felt like I was going to slide off the chair throughout my meal.

Excellent service, fabulous, variety of healthy menu options. MusicIans are wonderdul & create a great ambiance, but the music can be too loud at times to carry on a regular conversation. Staff go above & beyond to create a memorable dining out wxperience.

Always a reliable ‘good food, great service, ‘ dining experience. The best Chai anywhere! As much as the entertainment adds a unique quality to the ambiance I find it distracting for conversation; hence I now book for early dining between 5-7.

One recommendation would be to start the entertainment later, around 830 for those of us who come for the food, ambiance & conversation.

We had an outstanding service.
The table we had reserved for was 30 min late, and in appreciation to our patience, the ladies provided us free drinks, free appetizers and free deserts. Super friendly staff.
It was very clear that they wanted us us to have a great experience in the restaurant as overall : food, atmosphere, awesome service etc.

It amazed me that even though the restaurant is big and was super busy, the our waitress always managed to check up on us. I had a guest from oversea, and was very pleased we went to East is East on Main Street.
Will be back again very soon!

Thank you!

Service here is absolutely horrible. We were seated at our table and waited 20 minutes without any attention. Asked two other servers to get our server but she never came so another server just ended up taking our order. We ordered more food in between with another server but waited for half an hour without our food. Our server asked if we still wanted to order any more food and we told her we have ordered but nothing came. Our sever went to check with the other servers but she never came back to tell us that no one ordered our food until we called her over to ask. When the bill came, we noticed that each person was charged $3 for entertainment. Nobody told us that we would be charged for the live performance. If you’re going to charge for live performance, that should be communicated so I can decide if I still want to dine there. I really didn’t have a choice but to bare with the circumstance.

The food and ambience is very good. Bonus for being able to order more with the Chai Feast. Surcharge of $3.00 per person is too expensive (to pay the musicians), but I will still return.

Great place to eat. Food and atmosphere are both warm and inviting. It would be nice to have a greater variety of middle eastern music. The flamenco is fun, but music from further east would be welcome.

It was a wonderful first experience with Afghani dining. Great, bold flavours; and enjoyed the combinations of spices. The music, the decor and ambience was beautiful. For a couple of hours, it seemed like we were teleported away from the city to some place magical. Lovely.

Came here with my family for 5 on my birthday. We were brought in right away for our table and brought chai tea and waters. Had to flag a server down to order some appetizers after we said we needed a couple minutes to decide. Once we ordered she left right away without letting anyone else talk as we wanted to order drinks too. Had to flag another person down to order drinks. Got our appetizer in about 15 minutes, which was very tasty. Once our final person joined we flagged someone to order dinners. When we got our dinners my mom was missing her salad but there was no server around to say anything too so we just shared with her as the portions were a good size. The food was really great though. We asked for our food packed up and the bill. We were a group of 5 and the menu said 6 and over has autogratuity, yet we were charged gratuity on our bill. We didn’t say anything as I was in a rush to leave for plans. My biggest problem with the night was the lack of service and feeling like our server was nowhere to be seen so we could not ask for anything.

This was our first occasion to dine at East is East. We were pleasantly surprised with the interesting decor and menu. It has a quiet and pleasing ambiance, reminiscent of a frontier town in the British Raj.

The food tasted fresh and was of excellent quality. The chicken and lamb were expertly marinated and cooked. The gluten free flatbread (as an option) in the lamb and chicken wraps that I ordered excellent. (I have to add that it was the best gluten free flatbread I have tried thus far.) The spicing is also just perfect and not overbearing.

Last but not least, our server made every effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable and was able to explain the menu options very well.

Decided to go here for my best friends birthday after only having been there once before. Just as amazing as I remember to be, really good price for the chai feast and the Kashmiri sunset lassi is soooo good I ordered two of them! The staff was also amazing and surprised us by bringing free dessert and getting the whole restaurant to sing happy birthday to my friend with them. We also got amazing seats right infront of the stage where live music was playing. Safe to say, she had a really good 20th birthday ❤️

I originally discovered the restaurant when I searched the surrounding area of a property I needed to review with a Client. Both of us were gluten free and I was excited to try a new GF friendly restaurant. When we got there, the food was so unusual we had no idea what to order and each just randomly picked something. It was so delicious we had to taste each other's food. This was about 2 years ago. Since then, if I have special guests from out of town, a Trip to East is East on Main is our first choice. This week, we brought 4 aunt and uncles from out of town and we were treated to the magnificent tasting Feast. We all loved every thing we tried. It is the most amazing food ever!
To top it off, we get our take - away magnificent Chai tea for desert. What a treat.
