Helmed by Executive Chef, Carlos Perez, El Blok's large open air restaurant and bar is designed to encourage a good time. Menu offerings are deliberately simple, always fresh and almost wholly local. Fresh fish, steak, and pork come off a mesquite wood grille and rotisserie chickens and other meats come out of the gas fired Rotisol – the grand dame of European rotisseries.

service was HORRIBLE! the servers had attitudes and the food was less than average. We politely provided feedback on the food and the server did nothing to acknowledge it and mentioned "everyone loves our food".

The restaurant was not open the evening of our reservation. At least it did not appear to be. There were no people, working or dining in the restaurant or bar, and no one who looked like they worked there to ask. The space looks amazing and the reviews have been really good. We will try again tonight!

Excellent food - the best fine dining on Vieques. El Block steak among the tenderest I have ever had (and I grew up on steak). Prices very reasonable and similar to other fine dining on Vieques. Attentive and very friendly service - went out of the way to be helpful. Great spirit selection. In boutique hotel with modern vibe.

We ate at El Blok the last night we were on Vieques; it was definitely the best meal of our stay. While we also dined at another restaurant down the street which is repeatedly touted as the best on the island and other recommended spots during our stay, the food at El Blok was much much better than all the others--the flavors and creative combinations were absolutely stunning. One of us had steak--the Blok strip--which, though a bit rarer than the requested medium-rare, was an excellent cut--almost fork-tender. The accompanying cauliflower mash was buttery and perfectly smooth. The seasonings of both were spot on. My dish was mahi mahi filet in a chorizo garbanzo bean stew, and it was one of the best dishes I've had. Again, the seasonings were perfect, the fish cooked just right, and the flavors melded together delightfully. It was the kind of dish that makes one take another look at the menu and wonder what else should be tried. El Blok has a full bar and wonderful bartenders, but be warned that the wine list is limited. The space has clean lines and an open floor plan; the dining area abuts a large bar space and is open to the outdoors--perfectly appropriate to the location. The wait staff are delightful, wonderful people, and we enjoyed their personalities on multiple occasions, but their talents don't match the food quality. Yes, it's a small island and the talent pool is limited, but while the dishes of El Blok could hold their own in a foodie city anywhere, the wait staff is more relaxed, less attentive, less doting--more pub staff than fine dining waiters. Accept that as part of your island experience and avoid big city comparisons.

Amazing food and lovely service. Highlights were the scotch egg and the steak. We dined during the first week of March so the evening was quite cool, since it's open air on the second floor the wind was blowing in pretty hard and I was freezing. That was the only downside.

Stayed at El Blok while on Vieques and was very excited to try the restaurant but once I got there I found out the chef I heard about El Blok through was no longer attached to the project. We decided to stay and enjoy our selves anyway. We started off with some cocktails; gin gin & El Blok Punch. Both were yummy and flavorful without being overwhelming or super boozy. We ordered some starters; bacalao with capers and avocados, and scotch egg with tomatoes and onions. The bacalao had a nice balance of creaminess, acid, and saltiness. Only with it had a bit more texture. The scotch egg was a fail. The tomato/onion mixture was a bit much on the plate and he sausage sort of just fell off off the egg. The breaking on the outside wasn't really noticeable either. After starters we had our mains. One being the chick, which was incredibly moist and the other being the pork, which was very dry but had really tasty potatoes. Our server was Yanira. She was very nice, helpful, and attentive. Overall, I'm glad I tried it.

i was a bit concerned about choosing El Blok for dinner, because the menu showed very little in the way of vegetarian options. However, the staff provided several different off-menu options for us, and we tried all of them. All of the dishes were impeccably executed with fresh ingredients and true passion for food - no boring vegetable plates here! Wonderful creativity in the kitchen with genuinely kind and gracious service to complement it - can't recommend it highly enough.

In January 2015 my husband and I ate at El Blok the last night of our vacation. So impressed with the menu and service we jokingly said that we would eat there every night of our 2016 vacation to Vieques. We made dinner reservations for our first night back on the island. Arriving early, we sat at the bar and visited with the bartender, a young woman who provided us with excellent service and interesting conversation. When the dining room started to fill up we took our drinks and claimed our table, hoping for a repeat of our 2015 dinner experience. Although the food was "OK" it was the inattention of our waiter that must be noted; while water glasses needed to be refilled, wine glasses needed replenishment, salad plates needed to be removed to make room for our entrée, our waiter was chatting at length with two men sitting at an adjoining table about the where he goes to work out! Really? On Vieques! If you decide to go to El Blok for dinner, sit at the bar.

Dined here a couple of days after New Year's. The food's good, although on the island First Course is better. Service and availability on Vieques is always a bit hit or miss, and this was no exception: there were some missing menu items, and things kind of came to the table in a funny order, but we had a great time nonetheless. The restaurant is very attractive, and the waiters are friendly and working hard.

Denotes excessive greediness by "suggesting" tips beginning at 18% up to 22% when the custom in Puerto Rico is 15% - 18%; and, even worst, the "suggested" tip is on top of the sales tax (which everyone now reasonably doubts is being paid forward). This is not fair to the amazing staff working there.

We have visited the chef's prior restaurant in Santurce, PR and thought Blok was about the same high standard - not at all. Don't like to write bad reviews but we were very disappointed with the bland tasting food. We ordered the fish and the chicken and both found the taste to be lacking. The berenjena and pumpkin side side dishes were very bland as well. The desert list was also very limited. The drinks were excellent. The restaurant lacks ambience/personality and unfortunately the bar as well. Hope they turn it around.

The ambiance is great, but the food is another story. Their appetizers menu is good and our "arepas and bacalao" and soup, "crema de pana", were tasty and plenty to share. Their dinner menu have different combinations, but lack in quality and quantity for the price you pay. The dinner plate average price is $30.00. The pork has lots of fat and only two slices are served for $30. The steak was good, and the chicken has lots of fat as well. I guess the best selection was the pompano fish with eggplant, but is not a hearty portion... it is served with its skin. Churros for dessert was a good selection and they serve plenty to share.

I was very excited to visit El Blok and made a reservation a week in advance. When the night arrived we were disappointed because our server forgot about us multiple times and was very unapologetic. The food was good, but not good enough for the expensive price. The hotel is very cool, but they are just missing the mark on the details (service, music, decor) I would not go back.

CIA-trained apprentice chefs bang out harmonious riffs with the ocean as they prepare seafood and other dishes at this modernistic establishment. The swordfish was delicious, just slightly overcooked IMO. Best part was the churro desert with dulce-de-leche syrup, chocolate syrup, and caramel syrup. The room is a bit loud because 1) this is a popular place, and 2) the surroundings are smooth concrete. You can see the ocean from the prime tables on the north side, so be sure to ask for one! This is our second time in Vieques, and we had hoped that El Blok would be open this time when we returned. It was open!

We stayed at El Blok and had dinner there both nights that we were in Vieques. The food was delicious. The first night we had tuna ceviche as a starter and swordfish as the main course. The second night, two of us had the tuna ceviche again and then the Strip Steak. The third person had a local appetizer (I don't remember the name) and the chicken. We loved the food and the atmosphere was totally relaxed. We came to dinner in our shorts and felt perfectly at home.

Service wonderful and attentive yet not bothersome. Limited main course menu, but what they do have is prepared in a creative and delicious manner. "Best Swordfish I ever had" commented my companion.

From start to finish, this was phenomenal. The ambiance was amazing, the service was friendly and prompt, the food was incredible from presentation to execution and flavor. Our server Yamil was wonderful and had great recommendations for food and drink. We couldn't decide on what we wanted, so we ended up doing tapas style with a bunch of apps. The ceviche was so good and fresh, best I have had in years. The mofongo dish with pork shoulder was delectable and really top notch. To finish the meal, we had two amazing sorbets (made from scratch) which topped off the night with pure perfection. Would definitely come back.
